    I fully braced myself for some depressing story on how A.I. images were killing the environment or democracy but instead I got a heartwarming tale of a love between a man and his cabbage. Life ain't so bad.

      When you make 1 show a week and you take 2 week breaks every month, it's not that hard to come up with a 10 minute video that's entertaining. He's not being forced to churn out episodes 5 days a week for weeks at a time. So, cut late night shows some slack.

    • @anthonyzullo
      @anthonyzullo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      It's honestly not fair because John is on HBO. He has such little restrictions on content and he has an expanded budget, a budget that isn't run on ad revenue.
      But if you look at Seth's show, it has done some amazing things since covid started. They really leaned into their internet audience and have continued to lean in. Like Seth's corrections isn't even on television and was nominated. Not even the show lol, the segment lol. So things are changing. If we really do get Conan on HBO I'd like to see that wild ride.

      Last year with no place left to turn I prayed to God in repentance then begged for help with all my heart, "I was until then a lifelong Atheist."
      I then had a dream of Jesus coming before God and he spoke of the Tabernacle in perfect context, "A word I didn't know existed because I've never read the bible", and the love I felt from Jesus was unlike anything I've ever felt before - A lifetime of joy every second - It brought me to sobbing and it changed my life forever.
      I've had other miracles since, a few being a light turning on in answer to deeply needful prayer 6 times, seeing a orb of light hours before a major surgery, seeing an Angel in a dream the night my mother prayed for me to see one, "Without telling me", and so much more.
      Know that God and Jesus ARE real and that they love us deeply. Let go of your hatred and Imagine yourself holding the people who've hurt you. Tell them you love and forgive them and I believe we should do our best to follow, "I've failed many times", the 10 commandments.
      Always have hope. I believe that love is the answer.

      AI can't drive cars yet because interpreting a 3D environment in real time takes about 5 or 6 multi-core blade servers. Its not impossible, it would just be at least the size of the engine, and about the same cost as the rest of the car.
      This is why Google and GM's practical attempts have both focused on mapping just the ground, a tech that was developed for those video parking guides and proximity alert systems you see now. That can be done with cheap CPU in a much smaller space. It works fine at low speeds on an empty road, but when Google tried to put their auto-driving car on a real road it got overwhelmed trying to map other car movements and slammed into a parked car trying to deal with other cars turning at an imperfect and unanticipated angle.

    Florals: stunning. Groom: dapper. Vows: heartwarming. Overall, a beautifully put together wedding. Though, considering the plain tulle of the veil, I think the cabbage might have waited until the last minute to order their attire. I can understand favoring simplicity for whatever reason; maybe it didn't want to be a bridezilla, or the elaborate beaded lace styles just don't reflect the cabbage's personality, or wanting to keep costs down; but it's your wedding day. You're going to want to remember this for the rest of your life. At least have the veil hemmed instead of leaving the edge raw.

      @@dwixodoodles8636 It isn't there yet. From what I've seen on the site, you have to know what your doing, such as knowing the correct keywords and even a little coding syntax, to get a good result and even then you'd probably want an actual artist to polish it up before presenting it as concept art or anything else. For example, for whatever reason it's terrible at hands and usually has excessively disproportioned symmetry in faces like missing nostrils/ears and different colored eyes (not that two colors can't happen in eyes, it's just the norm for the site). On top of that the eyes it produces are usually nightmare fuel like black worms swirling about rather than defined whites, irises, and pupils.
      All these little technical issues are easily remedied by a professional artist... so right now this is just a tool like any other in an artist's kit to get quick mock ups or baseline platforms to build off of. Even then, it'll still need wordsmiths inputting prompts... but that skill will be harder to justify prices for.
      That isn't to say these projects won't get that good though. Given 1-5 more years and I'd be surprised if the issue of genuinely replacing artists entirely isn't at hand. I remember people always saying that AI automation would never be able to replace human creativity, yet clearly AI will likely replace 2D image artists-particularly concept artists-first. Second if you count technical support bots.

      John Oliver didn't make it clear that the "search results" for other late night hosts are simply the prompts other people have already created. His examples of prompts were terrible at showing the creativity and flexibility of image generators: not one "in the style of" or "taken with a disposable camera". This was just a gag piece that riffed on AI image generators.

    Hey John and the team! I was wondering if you could potentially do another Taiwan episode discussing the escalating tensions, evolving situation, and other countries' involvement (choosing to visit Taiwan or not, what that all means, etc.) I am an American who is living in Taiwan right now, and so I am very much so aware of everything that is happening and feel like it is increasing enough to warrant doing one of your trademark thorough dives into. Thanks for readin this :)

    ive always suspected that captchas (and, subsequently these ai art generators) are just the ai's sneaky way of having us teach them how to identify everything.

    • @kooeykooeykooey
      @kooeykooeykooey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Well the AI didn't set up the captchas obviously, they were set up by humans, but that is the captcha's secondary purpose, acutally. Remember the word captchas? They were used to help the machines digitalize scanned books. And now the picture-based captchas are used to train image-identifying software.

      that kind of design would actually be perfect to train an AI with but it would need less randomization. like the AI choosing pictures from a folder instead of just randomly selected and you would see every single time it getting closer to just the correct images.

      as kooey said, captchas are actually us teaching the ai how to identify things...
      it started with words and we got digitalized books... then they were streetnumbers and we got streetview... now it's trafficsigns and -lights and we'll get selfdriving cars...

    I find a lot of utility from ai created images. I never keep exactly what's created, but the bizarre creations are a hack for creative blocks. Sometimes what I see just sends my mind reeling into it's own creative space. It's a useful tool for creators, and a shortcut for nobody's with no original concepts.

      Name an artist who came up with a completely original idea? No one just creates art without having seen and experienced art and life. Just because its model was fed images and photos taken by other humans, doesn't mean it doesn't create some amazing original stuff itself. I've created things I'd hang on my wall which I've never seen created anywhere before. I'd love you to find me an artist who created a claymation of an anthropomorphic toilet licking its lips before I prompted one with text. Or how about a silly cute pineapple spaghetti mouse creature? These programs are incredible, and progress is only going to increase exponentially.
