A refreshingly well prepared and presented video that hits the nail on the head.
You put it perfectly, “Don’t jack the coppers up on the side of the road, you’re not going to win.”
Have a conversation with them and you’ll find that most are pretty bloody reasonable.

The Leyland Brothers got around because there were no 4" lifts and 35" tyres. The tyre ruts were standard car depth and there 13" rims. Now the dog is just chasing its tail trying to do those same tracks. Look at the coffee rock at Ngala right now! If you don't have 35's or bigger, Fat chance of getting through without "Sending it"

No outback paved highways back then either as for ruts you could drive for miles with the throttle standing on the running boards in the ruts the road trains left in the dirt while your beam axel graded the high spots off the road did that many times in the heat of the day, no air con either and very few 4x4s around in the early 70's most of the 4x4 these days would disintegrate in to scrap metal after 5 or 600 miles of the highways we drove back then in 2x4's.

Most 4 wheelers like to do legal mods to their 4wd to make the vehicle more capable and to make camping an easier experience but crazy high lifts are dangerous on road with poor handling, 38" tyres fitted reducing braking capability by 25%+ unless braking upgrade has been done. Tricking the injector pumps to pour out enormous quantities of unburnt diesel soot & black smoke. Well of course the authorities are going to defect the vehicle & fine the driver. With these mods, you effectively have a 4wd with no insurance& the possibility of a cancelled rego. These heavily modified 4wd need to be trailered to 4wd parks it is that simple.

I had a GQ patrol. NSW rego lapsed and it needed repairs for Pink slip.
I could either spend 160 an hour (which i did not have at all) for a shop to fix it, plus parts, or drive it to sydney where i had access to the tools to fix it myself. It cost me less than 160 in fuel to do the round trip. I consulted NSW RMS, we came to the conclusion that I was going directly to the most convenient place for repair, that i could stretch that definition a little.
Anyway, i got pulled over on my way to inspection after the repairs. I explained everything calmly and the officer reminded me that i was stretching the definition of that law and not to do it again. If i had have given lip, i would have been walking home, 2.5 hours drive btw, with a very large fine and loss of points. I will NOT be doing that again, as i have the tools at home now, but it reinforces that the attitude you use during the stop DEFINITELY influences the outcome. It also influences the outcome of general life interactions too.

You don't need to even own any vehicle to be totally f**ked over by the cops/govt let alone 4x4's.When pulled over it's best to yes sir/no sir then do what they say and at the next election vote accordingly. We voted these rules in by voting for the political party that then puts these shit laws into effect. We did this to ourselves, the only solution is political activism or nothing. This joint has gone to shit big time. These govts want us all in these electric mobile toilets and all 4x4's they want us out of yesterday, unbelievable. I used to be a vehicle inspector for 10 years. Recently stopped. You wouldnt believe how many regulations there are and how many counteract eachother.and how difficult it is to find the regulations and when you do it is in lawyer speak.. And how they are aiming towards making it that No mods will be allowed. Also most 4x4 aftermarket mods have buried deep in the small print somewhere in there documentation it says for off road use only. Will not comply on roads.

You missed the main point !
Assuming you have insurance even third party fire and theft.
If you crash, the insurance company can use banned or not engineered mods , or even bald tyres to void your insurance/ claim
Take a Quick Look at the PDS!
This could easily bankrupt you, as most insurance covers upto 20 million in damage
Can you afford to replace your car plus another car you hit ?
A friend of mine had a multi million dollar claim when he cut off a large dump truck this truck went into a tram , the tram derailed which h also damaged the tracks
Imagine if they tell you your 4 inch lift and 35" tyres compromised handeling and good luck paying for it !

  • @maxregal8889
    @maxregal8889 10 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +6

Some iffy advice there. Yes, don’t be a dick, but never admit you knowingly broke any law. Politely refuse to answer any questions other than those you are legally obliged to answer, name and address, that’s it. Pulling out your phone to record, while legal, probably won’t help the situation. Better to have a dash cam with sound recording on.

    • @timoleary8751
      @timoleary8751 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

With traffic law, admissions carry no real relevance the offence/defect is there or it isn't. The driver carries the responsibility of ensuring the vehicle complying with the standards. With offences, presenting a legal defence may save you being booked but carrying on like a twit will likely get you booked either way.

Something that was missed in the video is that the modifications only have to comply with the rules in place at the time you did the modifications. For example, the height change limitations use to apply only to body and spring lifts (50mm total), any increase from tyres was not controlled. The change in diameter of the tyre was limited to 50mm ONLY IF YOU CHANGED THE RIMS FROM STOCK. If you kept stock rims, you could fit as large as tyre as you wanted as long it was legal for that size rim. Had nothing to do with the diameter of the standard tyres

    • @shaenni9122
      @shaenni9122 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

Not sure what state you got that info from may be in other states. But WA doesn't have that. Rules run off diameter of tyre. And lift is 50mm overall eg if you had 1in suspension lift you can have 1in on tyre or body. If you have 2in (50mm) on suspension thats all your allowed. WA is the strictest of the states.

From someone who was in a Policing agency (not civvy but the same uniform that you wore) the 'Attitude Test' is huge and many fail it because they believe that they have an entitlement to do whatever they want and just don't care. What they forget, is that Police Officer that has stopped them has done so for a reason - usually because they were behaving like a dick. What they forget is that Police Officer may have just pulled a body or two from a car wreck on a previous shift. The smell of human blood and alcohol will never leave you and I know having been in those situations more than once. Also, far worse is the fact that if your vehicle has an illegal modification then it is highly likely that your insurance will be null and void and that will cost you more than a fine.

I don't think it helps that you can go online and buy a 100 to 150mm suspension lift for most coil sprung 4wds. Some 4wds are lifted as much as 150mm, well done and safe imo. But most simply aren't done safe. So there is good reason to defect most imo. I have been there with suped up 4wds and there are tracks that need these lifts both in state forests and the High Country. Common sense has to prevail on the road though. These days I stick to 75mm combined or lower, two driving lights, etc. Leave the big gear to the young blokes like I once was😂. Vehicles do need to be safe though and rules have to exist so a minority doesn't risk the lives of the majority. As you said, leave the hardcore wheeling to others.

  • @Smokeyr67

Sorry mate rego was introduced as a way to identify a vehicle that was involved in an accident involving pedestrians Anderson part of the theft recovery as for the seat belts for defect notices in 70s that is incorrect as for seatbelts weren't compulsory and most vehicles did not have seatbelts and as for modifications to vehicles the guideline is manufacturers maximum and minimum specifications for safe operation their vehicles it is actually quite easy to find out how you can modify your vehicle without headaches from the pigs that is look up the manufacturers minimum and maximum standards for their vehicles you will find wheel offsets you will find maximum and minimum Heights you will find maximum and minimum wheel sizes and motor registry actually has a quite easy one to find to do with wheel wits the tyre is not to stick out more than one inch past manufacturers fitted parts as a vehicle builder engineer I've had to know all these things for a long time the police have tried to defect my vehicles in the past they have never achieved it yet I have built drag cars Street rods handsome extremely highly modified vehicles it is incredibly easy to find the information you need for modifications but if all these four-wheel drivers that complain that their mods get defected and use the excuse they've been engineered most of the engineer's that say yes this is ok aren't even qualified to do the job there is a reason why manufacturers have maximum standards for safety and reliability of their vehicles go to wide with your wheels you will have broken axles stuffed suspension go to high with your vehicle it will fall over stop watching what the Americans do because there is no road safety standards in the u.s. my four-wheel drive is modified and the pigs cannot find fault with any of my modifications and from what I see most modifications that these guys do are completely useless and make the vehicle less capable wheels too big massive lost in horsepower lift kits rollovers and big leaf kids are completely useless if you run solid axle

Over my many years of driving i have gradually seen 4wds being ridiculously modified and being driven aggressively.
Im sure some of these fools think they are sports cars.
Funny thing is I've very rarely seen these highly modified types of vehicles in what i would class as some of the more challenging places like crossing the Simpson, Cape York telegraph/CREB and Victorian high country tracks. They are mostly weekend warriors driving with some mates on tracks not too far from home as their vehicles would not be reliable enough to do a solo remote trip.
Just because your vehicle is a little larger than most cars don't drive it like your purpose overrides other road users.

It's not that hard to find the legislation over vehicle mods. You just go to an authorised inspection station, and ask. Even go to the people that test and accredit the testing stations, you'd be surprised how happy they are to help. I was an AIS here in Tas, I and 85%+ of Inspection stations will be happy to help you.
All the "roadworthy" legislation is based on the National standards.
Do NOT even bother to ask an after market retailer of automotive accessories if it's legal or not, their aim is to sell you (and make you pay for fitting, if possible). They don't care if it's "legal" or not, they want your money.
As an ex mechanic, a lot of the "mods" I saw to steering and suspension terrifies me. The average guy has no idea of the physics involved in keeping your tyres on the road and gripping so you can moving, steering and stopping. Unless you're better educated than the engineers that built the vehicle in the first place.. just leave it alone.
Common sense should cover it, but that's in very short supply these days.

Seriously this stuff IS NOT hard to find.
Start with the ADRs, all editions of the ADRs are freely available on line.
    .
there are national modification guidlines plainly and clearly published.
there are also freely and openly available guides and documents.
There are a series of " vehicle standards bullitens" VSB
VSB14 is the one you are looking for for modifying 4wds.
    .
Some people find them hard to read, some people just don't want to know the truth.
    .
various states will permit some things beyond national guidelines.
QLD will permit driving lights above the windscreen, other states wont.
NT will permit a number of things other states wont
    .
Yeh there is a problem that too many people, willing ignore, all the regulations and guidlines, and not by a little bit.
    .
Yes the police, are going after these things and they have been for a very long time and it's not just 4wds.
    .
Here In QLD, there are many crews of specilist police, supported by local police working with very well equipped Transport Department vehicle inspectors.
These guys have been known to keep writting tickets till they run out of forms to write on ( it's electronic now).
They go thru modified 4wds like a dose of salts.
They find a lot of overloaded 4wds and caravan rigs ( a good number of 4wds are overloaded, some reasonably speculate that more caravan rigs will fail a trip over a scale than will pass)
yes they inspect trucks and log books too.
    .
yes and of course various police districts have blitzes.
    .
don't be surrised if you get inspected and pinged near any of the popular places, where people with modified vehicles go.
