    Glad you dusted off one of your free gifts. Don't forget to put it back up as that doorstop. Pickaroons can also be used as one climbs around in dense and slippery woods. They can also help chip away ice and snow. Several sips of Pendleton on this round...cheers!

    I might buy a Fiskar hookaroon. Hookaroons are not common in Australia but it looks like a good tool to pick up and move timber. We have been cutting down and cutting up trees and it’s a big job on a 20 meter tall tree. A tool like this would make it a lot easier.

    • @JoesFirewoodVideosII
      @JoesFirewoodVideosII  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's good for moving pieces around but for lifting pieces that are over 25 pounds it's not ergonomic.

    Joe, I've been a lurker on your videos for a while now. You have a lot of things going for you. 1) You know how to work hard, obviously. 2) You seem to be good at working with people.
    I think you would be surprised at how fast a 3/4 ton truck, small trailer, or even another 1/2 ton truck and a higher capacity wood splitter wood pay for themselves. I know money is always an issue but at some point you are going to need to expand your business. Also, you need a tree service to start dropping logs for you. Buying blocks from people has to be killing your bottom line. Just my 2 cents. Not a hater. Keep up the hard work! It will pay off.

    • @JoesFirewoodVideosII
      @JoesFirewoodVideosII  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’d love 3/4 or 1-ton truck, I need $50K+ of equipment but 0 money 💴 in the bank. A trailer would be nice but would only be ideal on 20% of my deliveries. Tree companies are the WORST log suppliers! 1) They have no clue how to cut the wood into ideal firewood blocks. 2) 98% of the wood they cut is green. 3) The wood too large & crap species.

    • @hammerinhome8966
      @hammerinhome8966 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JoesFirewoodVideosII Trailer might allow you to make two deliveries on the same trip or more easily haul a full cord rather than having to neatly stack in the bed of your truck. You can get a really nice eastonmade or wolf ridge splitter for $7500. Not sure but companies like that may even offer some type of financing with their local banks, credit unions, etc. There's plenty of 3/4 trucks out there at the 10K number, and if not concerned about image, probably 5K. Add a small trailer for $2,500 and you're set for a while. You go to a bank and tell them what you already do with what you have, offer an expanding business plan and you might get some help.
      Completely disagree with you on the tree service response, except for the large pieces part. Yes, they may not always have the right wood, or wood that's ready to go, but it appears that you have space to store wood that needs to dry. If they drop wood that can you use, best case scenario is that its free, worst case you have to burn some of it in a pile yourself. Just my thoughts.

    • @jeffy1466
      @jeffy1466 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love when tree companies drop off wood to me. I don't care if half of it is too long. I do take the time to cut it down to firewood length and I use the cutoffs to heat my barn. Or if it's a certain type of wood, I'll chunk it up and use it in my smoker. I also bought a ruggedsplit 28 ton with the 10 hp motor. It comes with a 4 way wedge that can be removed or put on in a couple minutes. Cycle time on it is pretty quick. I paid $1200 for it. Just an option if you don't want to shell out the 5k+ for a commercial splitter. The splitter was able to pay for itself in 1 weekend. Had 7 cords split.

    • @hammerinhome8966
      @hammerinhome8966 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffy1466 Ya i mean it's free wood, delivered to your location, that just needs cutting. Seems like it would be a no brainer even if you had to sell some of it cheaper and isn't considered "premium," which I get when it comes to indoor firewood. Seems like you could sell off remaining bits and pieces pretty easily as a non premium option.

    Joe, they make them latches for them tail gates. Go to rock auto and you can buy both sides, Two pair, door and bed side for like 10 bucks a side, or even Ebay. I'll go on (well mine is a GMC) rock auto or the GMC web site and get the part number, then go on Ebay and punch in the part number and save more than 50% at times. You probably already knew that so if nor you do now. Another great video Mr. Joe.

    As long as the wood is dense and heavy it's still burnable good heating wood. The best kind of wood is from a dead tree because there is an un-written rule where it is already "seasoned" firewood. You can moisture meter the tree and everything it just dries a lot faster.
