When was the smoke stack district name coined? Been in London 20 years and only head of it when they painted the mural on the side of the Webster building
Believe it or not that was me. We were talking about the cluster of historic factories between Old East and Pottersburg, and we realized we needed a name for the area that was easier than just "the area between Old East and Pottersburg. So I started using "The Smokestack District" because at the time the McCormick's smokestack was still standing and the most conspicuous object in the area. And it kind of caught on. I was as surprised as anyone. I've seen it on official city reports, and there's the mural.
+chrisvazquez7 Many thanks. I have a great fondness for some of these buildings. I'll have to take you walking through the area next time you're in Ontario.
Your videos are awesome! Local history is so important and you've given the world a tool that allows anyone to take a FREE walking tour of London :) I was wondering if you'd be interested/ willing to make a London, Ontario: Western University video! I would love to learn more about the campus' history! Cheers and keep up the awesome videos!
The campus will come... eventually. It's actually surprisingly difficult to get any decent information on the physical history of the campus. Plenty on the institution, but it's tough to find out when particular buildings were built, or which buildings particular events happened in. Neverthless, I go to school here, and I'm on campus nearly every day, so it's totally on the list of priorities. Hopefully early next year.
Nope. I'm doing a double major in philosophy and theology. History's just a hobby, although one that I'm quite passionate about. I'd like to eventually make a living from the film-making end of it, which would be a hell of a lot of fun, but there's a lot of work before I hit that point.
My and my (truly legendary) computer skills can't figure out how to send a PM, but there's a group of young history/heritage advocates forming in the city. We're taking a trip to Ingersoll on the 10th. If you'd like to join us send me an email - benjaminavazquez@gmail.com . Always happy to see more heritage people in this town. :)
Thank you for giving me insight in the city that my family has been living in for over a century

While I couldn't actually go for the walk, I followed along on Google Streetview. Great video :)
