The first 3 rounds are in Karlsruhe alongside the GRENKE Chess Open, then after a rest day the last 6 rounds are in the Kulturhaus LA8 in Baden-Baden. The field features World Champion Magnus Carlsen and fellow Top 10 players Fabiano Caruana, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Vishy Anand and Levon Aronian, as well as women's no. 1 Hou Yifan.
    The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for 20 moves and then 15 minutes to the end of the game, with a 30-second increment from move 1. If players are tied for first place a rapid play-off will take place. Official website: www.grenkechessclassic.com

    Question for Antonio. How do you learn to speak English so well? Did you ever live in an English speaking country? #question

    • @agadmator
      @agadmator  6 ปีที่แล้ว +111

      A lot of Cartoon network and video games as a kid.

    • @ppamment
      @ppamment 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good job your parents didn't tell you to turn off the tv! It's not just that you speak the language well so much as the way you can turn a phrase and in particular your deadpan sense of humour comes across perfectly in a foreign language. Perhaps English simply lends itself to this, either way it's unusual for a non native speaker (I think even Americans are sometimes stereotyped as not really getting it).

    • @scasino9358
      @scasino9358 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Younger generations of eastern/central europeans all learned english through Cartoon Network. We're talking about millions of people.
      That's the way i learned English too, it's just incredible how easily your mind assimilates it as a kid.

    Reuben Fine, in his book, "The Ideas behind The Chess Openings" wrote that the exchange variation is, for white, manifestly inferior to 4. Ba4. So it's not really surprising that black won here. Of course, Caruana as black helps too! Relying on white to make a weaker move isn't really a good reason to start playing the Ruy Lopez again. Love your channel and thanks for all your hard work!

      Adam Warlock Yeah!!He almost defeated kramnik in the 2004 world chess championship.Leko only needed a draw in the final game,but kramnik won brilliantly and the score was tied 6-6,thus kramnik retaining the title.

      "Fairly good" ?? He was the youngest GM in 1994, it's a travesty that he wasn't able to become world champion. I can't think of any reason other than strong competition (Kramnik, Topalov, Anand) for his decline.

    @danieljosebecerrauzcategui4359 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hehe, that's why we should use the Berlin not the Morphy/archangel defense (a6). Answering some doubts that i see, the long term advantage is in the endgame, if you take out all the pieces and see the pawn structure those three queenside pawns can stop the four black queenside pawns, so you have 4 vs 3 in the Kingside and that's a winned endgame.

    Beautiful. Theoretical novelties are rarities these days and the players who come up with them should get a medal. :-) Kudos to Kramnik for trying it first and to Caruana as well for believing in it.

    My opinion about discussing the Final : Carlsen - Caruana
    - The difference between them, which goes for an advantage for Magnus, its that Caruana misses so many crushing moves and opportunities unlike Carlsen who in these situations plays like a Engine and its unmistakable. If Caruana wants to beat him, he need to fix this weak spot.

    Question for Antonio..What and how should a beginner(knows some basics) chess player like me study to become a better player? Not expecting a 'learn tactics' answer..

    • @agadmator
      @agadmator  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Study endgame :)

    • @vishnuramesh2303
      @vishnuramesh2303 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was quick..thanxs..I will surely do

    • @MrSupernova111
      @MrSupernova111 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure learn endgame first. I noticed I started paying more attention to my pawns from the beginning of the game when I started studying the endgame. Also, calculating tactics become easier as I could save time by playing intuitively in unclear positions and spend time looking for tactics when the position called for it. Makes your life much easier. Also, learn strategy. I find too many sub 1500 players simply look for the next big tactical combination and towards the endgame they find their positions busted and easy to defeat.

    • @vishnuramesh2303
      @vishnuramesh2303 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrSupernova111 can you please tell me how I should learn these? Books or playing against computers or playing against ourself or anything else??

    • @MrSupernova111
      @MrSupernova111 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on how much time you have. Books take much longer to read because its difficult to follow the annotations and the moves. BUT, for chess fundamentals like endgame a book and a physical board work best for me. Sometimes I read a pdf book and work on my physical board next to my laptop. Also check out Dereque Kelley on youtube for ideas in chess openings but play the same openings consistently to learn them.
      Try Capablanca's endgame book. Also try understanding pawn structure in chess by Marovic. Those books alone should put you between 1200-1500 with practice. I would suggest either solve tactic puzzles online like lichess.org or get a book with tactics. Rotate between books often and give yourself a short term goal. I like setting goals to improve 100-200 rating points at a time and set a longer term goal.
      Sometimes it will feel like you take a step back to move forward but give it time. You'll get there. Report back and let us know how you do.

    Hi agad, do you know anything about the boards they use and how they're built? I'm big into woodworking and would love to make one, thanks!

      They always use the DGT e-boards. I have one but don't always use it because the software is annoying if you just want to enjoy a game. You'll need to learn some electronics and programming too if you wish to create one of your own. I would love to make an app that you can use on your phone, point it at any old chessboard and have it record the game live, that would be amazing.

    Why can't we just attack white Knight on g3 with the black square bishop? Then the black Queene will be able to attack on H file

    8:20 Very confused why not just Kg1 again, preventing the checkmate?

    I hope Caruana defeats Carlsen to show humans can still improve and Magnus is not unstoppable

    Jedna stvar mi nije jasna. Zašto predaju dva-tri poteza prije mata? Mrzim kad mi netko to napravi kad igram na fejsu. Pa daj odigraj još tih par poteza. Isto kao kad bi netko npr. u tenisu gubio npr. 6-2 5-1 i preda, dakle 4 poena do kraja. Jer ima kakve razlike u poenima u šahu između poraza matom i predaje?

    Fabi miss many chance and it makes me convinced that he will not stand a chance with carlsen

      Carlsen also misses chances often, even occasionally blunders a piece. They are humans after all, even Magnus. The point here is that even when they miss these absolutely crushing continuations, they find moves that make extremely difficult for opponent to find a suitable counter. Only engines can find best moves on every turn, top tier grandmasters make top 3 moves throughout the whole game. Even their worst move is usually excellent.
      Just look at the round 10 game between Mamedyarov and Caruana. They played a draw that ended up with just both kings standing. Analysing the game with Stockfish afterwards gives Mamedyarov 0 mistakes, 0 inaccuracies and 0 blunders - Caruana made one inaccuracy. However, the average centipawn loss on Mamedyarov was 5, Caruana 4. Like someone commented on ChessNetwork video: "I've seen cheaters using engines having higher centipawn loss than these guys." That's how fricking good they are.
      Carlsen is a favourite for sure, but Caruana will make him work to maintain his title.

      Stick to checkers, you have no idea about chess and you are too ignorant to learn about it.

      He absolutely stands a chance, Anand did in 2014, Karjakin in 2016 so why not Fabi?

    With Fabi missing all these crushing ideas, in this game and others, I can't imagine he could ever become the world champion.
