Lauren you killed this!! It looks so good! Franklin Shockey has been on my bucket list for forever! I had this video playing while I was working in the garage and I was SO surprised to hear my name! Haha! Thank you for the shoutout my friend ♥️
Love that you kept it as wood. Picking the right color of stain intimidates me. It’s really hard to pick the stain that matches your vision. I think you did a great job ❤
Thanks for going over the sanding swirls stuff! I am glad it was not darker in the end, I think the market for this will be people my age who remember the mid 70's pine craze. Had you got darker that would have covered it up and messed up the nostalgia factor. As it is, you captured it and updated it just enough.
oh damn! i had NO idea about the stain rags having the possibility of spontaneous combustion! Guess I've been lucky over the years. THANK YOU! I will definitely let them dry flat moving forward.
I would have done a sheer black wash stain so you still see the grain and a very natural stain/finish for the "identions" in the front. I love natural light wood with a sheer black, it has such an elegant but casual look to it. Just my opinion. But that said, it looks lovely with the stain you chose! Your choice maintained the integrity of the piece, restored it to its original beauty and will most likely bring a higher price as a restored piece vs refinished in different shade. Good call on your decision! You did an excellent job! And what an amazing find
Great job, I have a bar table that is aged pine, did not know how to finish this table. Looking at your finish pine dresser I know how I am going to finish this table. Thank you so much.
Two points. The sanding swirls, you need to get a firmer grip and slow down moving across the surface. The other thing, is adding water doesn't darken the swirls it raises the wood grain so that you can send it back down.
If this doesn't sell quickly, I'd consider either applying a darker stain over this one (it's still a little yellow) or...paint. The shape is beautiful but the knots make the piece look too busy and too "cabin at the lake".
I think you should use Hickory from Minwax. I have seen another TH-cam go thru and restain all her wood with that gel stain and wow it's beautiful! She also used Sherman Williams Oyster Bay on a few pieces in her home.
I agree with the stain… I would have either went with one shade lighter or another layer of this stain. Not a lover of pine for the reasons you stated… you never know how it’s going to take the stain. 👏🏻 the piece overall is pretty cool I’ve never heard of that brand. Very interesting
And I think it is pretty and I'm glad that you chose the stain. You always do such a great job and I think keeping it looking like wood was the best decision I think it's just beautiful!
Gorgeous❣️ People R Obsessed Knotty Pine 😍 The goal is a crystal clear coat with a non-yellowing stain. That way it matches knotty pine ceilings. Still, This piece would POP 🎉 perfectly in a room with white walls or clear coat pine walls paneling! Well done! 💯
Really enjoyed seeing you step out of your "comfort zone" and try some new-to-you products! That's a really interesting piece and I'm glad you decided to stain / restore. Great job!
I think the end result is beautiful. It is my personal favourite of all your flips ever. It was really nice watching you restore a piece as oppose to do just another paint job.
I’ve done pine wood pieces of furniture before… I love the knots and wood grain. So many beautiful wood species out there to behold simply amazes me. I think it turned out great. You kept its history and originality. Trying your hand at refinishing, you excelled. Hope to see more stained pieces - I admire the work you do.
That piece has such great lines and it looks so good now! I agree that you should price it higher. There are similar pieces listed online at $1800+! It’s a very desirable style right now, please don’t undersell yourself
Quality work! If it doesn't sell, I would try sanding back just the indented part of the drawers and using a very dark stain there. This would make the knots stand out a little less and the sculpturing stand out more.
Doing another coat of stain will darken it up. Even a couple of coats . I like the General Finishes gel stains and Java is a nice dark stain. If you are down to bare wood I would not use a gel stain, but a standard oil base stain that soaks into the wood. I also like General Finishes top coats. Nice piece of furniture!
I’m working on some pine side tables from the eighties and was hoping to see how you toned down the yellow of the pine but kept the natural look. I think I’m going to end up doing some kind of paint wash to keep it light. You have been such an inspiration. I am enjoying your content again! It’s great to see you shine!
Yeah, unless you use a paint wash on pine, you'll end up with the yellowish appearance with the knots. There are some interesting YT videos showing the pottery barn finish that is really beautiful. With pine, just make sure that you use a good sealer before you paint wash. Good luck.
Beautiful job. If I was keeping it I would have used Minwax Espresso as I prefer darker. You should list it for at least $900 for the brand and the fact that it’s solid wood.
Love to see you expanding with an all stain project! It really depends on the piece. I think I would have chosen a cooler color in the stain so when the natural pine yellow came through it would get a touch of warmth. Love watching your process!!🎉
I agree with you that these sculpted pine pieces are not my favorite but you did a great job. There are buyers who will pay big for these pieces when they are restored versus reimagined with paint. I will be interested to see how quickly you get it sold - I would think patience would be the key and it would take a specific buyer but when you get them they’ll be more than willing to pay your price. Great job!❤
It’s pretty though very similar to the original look - I would have loved to see a nice white wash or light paint wash - I think that would have been stunning! 😊 thx for sharing ❤
This is my hardest thing to overcome as I’m starting to flip furniture. Since I wouldn’t put it in my home I’d likely strip it down and make it how I’d want it. BUT I know for a fact that would sell in my area even though it’s not my decor taste. It’s beautiful and would sell!
I refinished antique furniture for years. I would have use a liquid stripper with a 4 zero stell wool I never used gel stain. I only worked with regular stains. My finished would have been 2 coats of tung oil. It is a gorgeous form of furniture. The legs are fabulous.
Honey pine is coming back into style. It’s awesome you kept it original. It’s a historic piece. People saying it looks like the original needs to have their eyes checked. lol. The original was the 1970s orange brown. This is pure honey pine. Plus the restoration of the wood was awesome. It looks very high end. If this was in Palm Springs CA it would go for $2000.
I absolutely love this. It is probably one of my favorite dressers that you have done. The wood is beautiful. I would pay $600 in a second for this. Great job!!
Darken the stain color to walnut, which is the quintessential MCM wood color, then list it for $900. People who know MCM furniture, know Franklin Shockey and you can get that for it as long as you don't paint it.
Hi Lauren. I need your help. I painted a kitchen table top with beyond paint. But I have roller streaks 😢 his can I fix? Love your videos. You have inspired me. But I am differently still a beginner
Hi Lauren great job, I also don't love the color. But the look of the piece is really nice. I guess I love when you work a 2 tone look on dresser pieces. I hope it sell quickly. Take care
I think it looks great. The only thing I wish is that it had stayed as dark after wiping off as it was when you first applied. However, I do think it's still very pretty!
What’s the benefit of using oil based versus water based? I’ve only ever used water based because it’s easier to clean up afterwards. I’m with you, I would’ve preferred it darker too, but I love all the wood grain - beautiful. ❤
Lauren you killed this!! It looks so good! Franklin Shockey has been on my bucket list for forever!
I had this video playing while I was working in the garage and I was SO surprised to hear my name! Haha! Thank you for the shoutout my friend ♥️
This is an architectural piece that needed you to keep as wood.
This cozy furniture was made for a lake house, mountain cabin, or a man cave. It has tremendous personality. Fantastic job, my friend.
I feel like we're seeing more of your personality in this video and I love it 😊❤️ Thank you for another excellent lesson!!!
This turned out to be a very handsome and unusual piece. Staining was definitely the right choice.
oh damn! i had NO idea about the stain rags having the possibility of spontaneous combustion! Guess I've been lucky over the years. THANK YOU! I will definitely let them dry flat moving forward.
I would have done a sheer black wash stain so you still see the grain and a very natural stain/finish for the "identions" in the front. I luv it. Glad it wasn’t darker. Very nice❣️
I could totally see this in our cabin 😍 it’s gorgeous.
It's MCM and you were true to that era. I love the color and the knotty pine. I can see it in a cabin on a lake. Great job!
MCM is not knotty pine!
You always do a fantastic job. This piece is beautiful and someone who appreciates natural woods will fall in love.
I am so glad you stained it and didn't cover up the beautiful pine wood. I love it.❤
That came out fantastic! Love the color!
Great job, I have a bar table that is aged pine, did not know how to finish this table. Looking at your finish pine dresser I know how I am going to finish this table. Thank you so much.
It looks the same, but you can see how everything is smoother. Great job for some.reason l likeed the raw look that color when she sand it down
Two points. The sanding swirls, you need to get a firmer grip and slow down moving across the surface. The other thing, is adding water doesn't darken the swirls it raises the wood grain so that you can send it back down.
Great job on an interesting style of furniture.
Love this. Love the tone of the wood. The brass is beautiful. This is a treasure!
thanks so much!
It's beautiful!! Should be priced higher 😊
I love it! I’m glad you didn’t choose that tobacco color!
If this doesn't sell quickly, I'd consider either applying a darker stain over this one (it's still a little yellow) or...paint. The shape is beautiful but the knots make the piece look too busy and too "cabin at the lake".
I agree, to yellow. It would have looked so much better painted.
I think you should use Hickory from Minwax. I have seen another TH-cam go thru and restain all her wood with that gel stain and wow it's beautiful! She also used Sherman Williams Oyster Bay on a few pieces in her home.
Dark walnut Varathane Stain would've knocked back the yellow hues of the wood ✌️
Totally agree. It looks much too rustic for an MCM piece:
I think it’s too orange but I think there are a lot of people who love this color
Great job, Lauren! I am liking that you chose a stain. The wood grain & knots of the pine really pops! Just beautiful!
I liked the dark color it was before you wiped off the gel stain. Also, I think pine is underrated. 😀
I agree with the stain… I would have either went with one shade lighter or another layer of this stain. Not a lover of pine for the reasons you stated… you never know how it’s going to take the stain. 👏🏻 the piece overall is pretty cool I’ve never heard of that brand. Very interesting
I love the shape of it. Excellent finish as always.
Wow that's beautiful, stain was the right choice for sure.
And I think it is pretty and I'm glad that you chose the stain. You always do such a great job and I think keeping it looking like wood was the best decision I think it's just beautiful!
thanks! we'll see if it sells!
Great job. So glad you tried staining. Good plan for this piece.
Well done! 💯
Thanks! It's such a versatile piece, I love that it can fit so many styles!
Really enjoyed seeing you step out of your "comfort zone" and try some new-to-you products! That's a really interesting piece and I'm glad you decided to stain / restore. Great job!
I appreciate it! I had a lot of fun with this one!
Beautiful finish!
Definitely stain it. For color - anything that makes it less yellow. Whatever you do, I'm sure it will look great.
Yes! Non-yellowing, Crystal Clear Coats are usually preferred for knotty pine.
It looks really fresh. Very cool look. I think it’s great!!!
I appreciate you! Glad you liked it!

Thanks for the kind words, I'm always learning! I'll definitely try more stain finishes in the future.
That piece has such great lines and it looks so good now! I agree that you should price it higher. There are similar pieces listed online at $1800+! It’s a very desirable style right now, please don’t undersell yourself
I'll keep that in mind! Thanks for watching!
I agree with you, it should be darker. You couldn't apply another gel stain coat?
I love the wood grain and tone. I love the products that you used.
Im glad you stained it as well. I would have liked to see it darker but do love how the grain comes out with the stain.
Pretty awesome for your first full refinish! You can only get better the more you do. Good for you for taking up the challenge, be proud!
I love it! I'm so glad you left the wood!!
Me too, it's so beautiful! I'm so glad I kept it natural as well!
I’m working on some pine side tables from the eighties and was hoping to see how you toned down the yellow of the pine but kept the natural look. Varathane Dark Walnut fast dry Stain helps tone the yellow down ✌️
I love that the stain brings out the sculptural design of the drawers. I expected you to paint the body. It is a beautiful and unique piece,
Beautiful job. If I was keeping it I would have used Minwax Espresso as I prefer darker. You should list it for at least $900 for the brand and the fact that it’s solid wood.

I agree, cooler tones would've been nice! thanks for watching!
Great job. Girl you are looking good. Great video.
I was going to say the same! Our girl looks happy again.😊
Thank you! I appreciate the support!
@@tiffinyboulet8694 I didn't notice ANY unhappiness.... sigh.... but now I SURE AM....
I have never seen one that shape before! So different, great job, well done kid!
its unique for sure! Thanks for watching!
It's a total grand classic,
Truly stunning 😊
I think it would be cool to do a two tone look on the drawers with a darker stain
I really liked it. It’s so cute. Thanks for sharing.
I’m so glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
You did a beautiful job on the piece. Pine is not my favorite, but that is only personal taste. Fun instructional video. Thank you!
I love it. You did a great job on it. I enjoyed watching you flip this one thank you for sharing
Would doing another layer of gel stain given more depth of colour?
Good on you for doing something different 👏
I agree with you that these sculpted pine pieces are not my favorite but you did a great job. There are buyers who will pay big for these pieces when they are restored versus reimagined with paint. It’s pretty though very similar to the original look - I would have loved to see a nice white wash or light paint wash - I think that would have been stunning! 😊 thx for sharing ❤
I think a white paint wash would have really made this piece disappear, the pine is so light you would have never seen the paint wash.
Gorgeous great job
This is my hardest thing to overcome as I’m starting to flip furniture. Since I wouldn’t put it in my home I’d likely strip it down and make it how I’d want it. BUT I know for a fact that would sell in my area even though it’s not my decor taste. It’s beautiful and would sell!
I think you did an awesome job. I love the way the dresser turned out
thankss!
I love it, I could see it in a boho chic room.
I refinished antique furniture for years. I would have use a liquid stripper with a 4 zero stell wool
I never used gel stain.
I only worked with regular stains. My finished would have been 2 coats of tung oil.
It is a gorgeous form of furniture. The legs are fabulous.
yes there are so many different ways to do it!
It looks lovely, well done Lauren 👏
Yep. Like the color before wiped back. Yeah, darker. Still pretty!
Honey pine is coming back into style. It’s awesome you kept it original. It’s a historic piece. People saying it looks like the original needs to have their eyes checked. lol. Where did you get that hand truck/table contraption? I need that!!
Great job, I really enjoy your videos! You are a great source of inspiration!
Very nice! Cool design, yes no paint was the right decision and I looove that honey color on the wood.
I would love to have it as is, but I think a bit darker would be my preference!
same! thanks for watching!

Beautiful new finish!
Definitely darker. 😍🇨🇦
I kinda see driftwood because of the smooth details and knots. I'd probably do a sunbleached finish.
I learn so much from you. Working on a similar MCM piece now for my own home. You’re an inspiration. 👍❤️
I’m glad you’re finding my videos helpful!
Beautiful job! I wonder how the recessed part of the drawers would look painted a dark color. At any rate, GREAT JOB as always. ❤
Beautiful! Live it😁 It is lighter than I thought it would be, but much darker may mot show that nice grain 😁😁😁
I love it! I like the wood grain showing!
Thanks so much! I was so happy to be able to restore it and let the wood shine!
Definitely prefer stain to wash or paint. I would have gone darker, but that’s just personal preference. It looks great!
Love you in the overalls ❤ Beautiful job
Thank you! I love these overalls!
It’s gorgeous! I wished I lived near you in the USA as I’d buy it in a heartbeat!
I love this!❤
Hi Lauren great job, I also don't love the color. But the look of the piece is really nice. I guess I love when you work a 2 tone look on dresser pieces. I hope it sell quickly. Take care
I think it is great.
I think it looks great. The only thing I wish is that it had stayed as dark after wiping off as it was when you first applied. However, I do think it's still very pretty!
Wow it's beautiful i love it 🎉
Brilliant outcome!
Which shop vac are you using? I have a surf prep but haven’t bought their vacuum
Ebony for sure!! I love it on pine! 😊
It tuned out lovely. Great job again!
I’m glad you like it! Thanks for watching!
When are you reopening the store?
What’s the benefit of using oil based versus water based? I’ve only ever used water based because it’s easier to clean up afterwards.
I’m with you, I would’ve preferred it darker too, but I love all the wood grain - beautiful. ❤
It turned out nice but I think a darker stain would have been better
Beautiful!
Love it
Definitely datker please.
