    Hollis a good ole boy of mine said to use fishing line, make a perimeter around your plants, deer approach and get spooked when they touch the line, they feel it but can’t see it, little trick we use down here in southwest Texas

    Had to chuckle a little. We just moved down here to the FL panhandle from rural TN. Used the same soap trick up there. Low voltage electric wire worked better for us there, but I appreciate your sprinkle protection too.Would love to see the deer scamper off after a squirt!

    Bing Bing certainly takes his job seriously! Good work on "protecting" your animal resources with non-lethal units (traffic has almost eliminated the natural ecosystem in my semi-rural location...fewer deer and others which I miss).

    I installed two of these, and they worked for less than a month. The Big Problem is that ordinary garden hose is not intended to work with constant pressure. After a week or two at 50psi or more, the hose wall will bubble and/or the fittings will fail. Read the manufacturer info, they acknowledge it. Hose that is rated for continuous pressure is much more expensive. The Little Problem is that the plastic and the batteries in these devices is simply not rugged, and fails in less than a year, especially if subjected to very high or low temps.

    I really like this set up. I do not live on our farm but I am there on weekends. One thing concerns me is that I do not like keeping the water on when I am not there. We have city water. The raccoons got all of my pears this year. Is there anything else I could use to keep them off. I trapped 4 raccoons and moved them. Raccoons are so smart ! I even had a 3 1/2 ft metal cylinder around it. They just get on one another's backs and climb up. I have really had it with raccoons!

    I have a couple of these but because I had access to lots of old re bar and and a welder I made heavy cages around my fruit trees and even though they are not pretty they work 100% off the time and I can remove them with my tractor to work on the trees. Love that beard

    Here in the city I have had a nasty groundhog that ate more of my garden than we did. Not allowed to put an electric fence up and the have a heart traps are a joke. They release them at the bottom of the hill. Groundhogs are not dumb and knows where a good meal comes from. Had bought one of those sprayers but the neighborhood kids took it.So frustrated. Praying it is God's plan to get out of this city but until then if you have any ideas for next year I would be grateful. I tried the Irish spring soap and the hot pepper powder and neither worked. God's blessing to you and yours

    Over Time these Sierra Mule Deer just started using mine as a Deer Wash Station. Works good for a few weeks. I think hunger is the driving factor. I see the newer versions are much fancier.

  • @MerwinARTist
    @MerwinARTist 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I prefer putting a fence around what I want to protect .. and then put a barking dog inside. Not one that makes friends with the deer .. one that drives them off. It works well for chickens too .. if a chicken jumps the fence .. it's a free meal for the guard dog. Those fancy devices keep digging into your back pocket .. more batteries etc etc. A good guard dog .. is man's best friend so you don't have to stay up all night with your night goggles on.

    I've been using the sprinklers for 2 years now and they do work, my biggest gripe is that if you touch the sprinklers or move them they will start leaking a the hose connection and you will have to shutoff water to screw it.. wish they would get better connectors
