    nice modifications but the lead screw diamtere is slightly bigger than the fully closed half nuts and it dosen't clamp fully on lead screw so your handle won't lock in place

    It is a pity that you were unable to show us the machining methods used to correct the problems. Also, was the half nut shaft unacceptably weakened or did you weld up the rubbish detents?
    Thanks for the video.

    Its a great video, but I have begun to wonder. There are so many of these videos about correcting the failings of these PRC items, I am wondering why people are still buying them. For years now, videos have been reporting on poor performance, poor fit and finish, poor customer service and poor inter-relationships with items made in the West. Since it costs a lot to get these items up to performance within normal limits, I have to ask why people are buying these things in the first place. Makes no sense......

    They should sell these as lathe kits. They could put a little more effort into machining the parts accurately, then send s crate with all the parts and it is assemble them ourselves

    I have a Warco mini lathe purchased here in the UK. The design looks very similar but I have had no where near the number of faults, main issues being run out on the chuck and tailstock alignment.
    Maybe there are more than one factories producing this design of lathe?

    Mine had the spring but not small ball bearing so the loose lever ruin the threads. Later assembling the two bolts,apron holders gave me a little work for fixing in right position.

    6:16 Just wondering why you wouldn't install the bearing first by tapping down on the outer race. Then install the drive gear.

    • @TheAussieShed
      @TheAussieShed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      G'day seth, Reason is, Because the bearing is being installed into basically a blind hole. The hole has clearance in the bottom to allow the centre of the bearing to rotate freely without binding. Which is a good thing. Unfortunately what this creates is room for the centre of the bearing to deflect into as the shaft of the of the handwheel gear is then pushed into it. That is enough to destroy one of these small bearings. If the Bearing is installed firstly into the housing, there is no way to prevent this happening, other than enlarging the axle hole in the housing & supporting the centre of the bearing with a sleeve while pushing the gear & axle into it. Hope I have answered your question satisfactorily Champ. Thanks for the comment & watching one of my Vids, Cheers Mate.

      @@TheAussieShed Thank you, yes that makes sense. I only asked because I replaced a couple of bearings in my farm bike last week and installed them into the case first and was wondering if i'd done it wrong. Although it's working okay now. Thanks again for replying to my comment.

    • @TheAussieShed
      @TheAussieShed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should be fine Seth, these tiny bearings are quite fragile, hence the technique used. I imagine the farm bike has decent size bearings & the shafts are a proper sized fit in them, unlike the Chinese Mini Lathe. Cheers Buddy.

    Good job Trev. I was quite surprised that you found a bearing on the lathe & secondly, it just proves how bad & junky chinese stuff is made & thirdly, it confounds me how we accept this shit that comes out of China. The same thing happened in the 60's with Japan it wasn't accepted as easily then & they had to reinvent themselves into one of the best manufacturing countries in the world. As far as bearing are concerned, when someone I know buys a chinese machine of any type, I tell them to replace the bearings immediately(they are crap) to either Japanese, German or American made bearings. As a side note, I worked in a machine shop & am now a service technician so I have seen a lot of the crap that China sends us(& we accept I might add). Unfortunately I inherited one of these when my uncle passed so I do know what they're like, I would rather spend more & use it immediately than to spend less strip it down, spend weeks getting it to a level that would be no where near a better lathe, my thoughts anyway. Cheers Trev, love your channel ,have a good one.

    My HF mini lathe does not even have a bearing on that hand wheel/gear shaft! Talk about cheap! I really don't have that ability to machine the apron for a bearing but I might oversize the through hole and put in a bronze bearing so it has a better fit.

    • @TheAussieShed

      And here I was think I had the Nastiest el cheapo version of the Mini lathe out there, only to be out done by Harbour Freight.

    mine is a fervi 716 lathe, from the same chinese factory it came your.
