Repurposing of coal assets | ICSC Webinars

The move away from coal power in many OECD countries results in abandoned coal mines and closure of power station closures. Are there future roles for these assets that can contribute to the energy transition and the wellbeing of society? Work is underway to use former mines for energy storage and redundant coal power plants can be converted to renewables or nuclear generation or used for energy storage, for example. In this webinar, we explore various projects that support the energy transition, and share interesting ideas on alternative, beneficial uses for these redundant assets, which may, surprisingly, assist with the increasing uptake of variable renewable energy.
