It truly is a magnificent place to visit. The restoration was 2nd to none in bringing back the grandure of this historic building. Now if only the people can get on board (both citizens and government) of putting this building back to its intended purpose...a train station. I understand it is a multi-modal transportation hub, but it was designed to be a train station. And although I'm happy to see that Amtrak now utilizes it, there are only 2 times it stops there...8am for the eastbound, and 10:20pm for the westbound. There were 2 other proposals for rail traffic that have already been shut down. A HSR connection to Chicago, and Red Rock Rail that was supposed to connect St. Paul with Rochester. And, although there are still talks about getting another daily train between St. Paul and Chicago, the Depot just seems to be an underutilized structure that remains empty most of the day, except for the occasional vagrants that use it for shelter.
I was happy to hear that Amtrak would be in charge of another intercity train line in Minnesota, the Northern Lights Express (NLX) connecting Duluth and Superior, WI with the Twin Cities, but not Union Depot. Instead, it will terminate at Target Field Station in Minneapolis. Would it kill ya to add a stop at Union Depot as well? Heck, with two baseball fields as stops (Target Field and CHS Field) they could nickname it the Stadium Express. It certainly would bring more travelers to Union Depot.

Going to the Twin Cities in June. Looking forward to seeing this station and ride the light-rail trains.

The depot with its greco-roman columns looks like a museum. They have to put up a sign saying that it's a railway station.

I lived in Saint Paul for almost a year back in 2007. I've always thought that the area was nice because of all of the parks between St. Paul and its' _twin city_ Minneapolis. People seem to have pride in their city so there is not a lot of litter laying around. But the best thing about Saint Paul, MN? The people! Oh my goodness, the people are all really really (REALLY) nice! In fact they have a saying *Minnesota Nice!* So maybe it's a requirement or something. :-)
I wish that I had an hour to watch this video right now, but I don't so I marked it for later viewing.
Can anyone tell me, is there a tunnel that connects the Union Depot to the rest of downtown St. Paul? Without the skyway system, I would have died in the winter there! I'm guessing there is a tunnel but can anyone please confirm? I think that I may take my whole family there for a week or so on vacation.

Really big construction projects like this are very cool. Matching the exact paint colors they used in the 1920s is a bit silly though (because whomever chose those colors then isn't around any longer).
