    Frank is not only a genius puppeteer, but a very quick, smart comic. He really made those characters come alive, and now that he's retired, they've just lost their magic...he needs to get back in the saddle!

      @@fool4singing i agree. Disney doesn't get that the Muppets are losers. Gonzo is the resident daredevil and will always be, but the others muppets got into stunts too, such as Muppet ladder and skydiving out of a plane. But Disney just forgot that.

    The Muppets mean more to me and many other people that I can barely use words to describe . I'd loved to have been part of something like that. The Muppets and Jim and Frank and everyone that worked with them are as big a part of my life as anything else. I'll never forget Birdbird saying "thanks Kermit" at Jim's memorial. My god, my true and loving god... nothing touched my soul like the Muppets did and still do. It's a lesson in life. Keep your ass going because you could be Frank and Jim or the Muppets. You could effect someone like those wonderful Muppets effected me. And one single effecting of somones life on that kind of scale is just the most wonderful and beautiful thing. I love you. Every last person that brought the world the Muppets..,,, I love you. Thank you so much. Xxxxx

    The correspondent (Morley Safer) makes a comment about how the Muppets are expensive and inimitable, as Disney was in its heyday. In 1979, Disney was still in decline; the movies of the late 60s throught the 70s were not that great, and the TV show was mostly showing old stuff, too. I knew even as a child that the Disney I knew wasn't the Disney of my parents. But then Disney rebounded, and now they own Henson & the Muppets. No one could know in 1979 that the story would end like that.

      Ironically, Disney's weekly series was OPPOSITE "60 MINUTES"- in 1979, when this profile was telecast....and in 1990, when it was repeated. No matter *what* title it was shown under, it was always a distant second to "60 MINUTES".

    My buddy and I had gotten Hulu and Disney➕ instead of paying $250.⁰⁰ for Cable📺TV📺. We had watched the better items off of Disney➕ and were looking for something fun for a afternoon lunch party. We both LOVED Dark Crystal, and other "puppeteer" type movies so we watched the Muppet Movie from the 70's. I had forgotten how incredibly well made that was. It was amazing how they made these "puppets" into people. You knew they were puppets but they were so acclimated to their surroundings and to the other people you didn't care. It was genius. Brilliant, amazing, and again incredibly well done! Jim Henson and Frank Oz are two of the MOST CREATIVELY BRILLIANT PEOPLE I'VE EVER SEEN! We watched Muppets in Space, the Muppets🎄Christmas🎄Carol, and the Great Muppet Caper. 👍 We also got into the Muppet Show which THANKFULLY was also on Disney➕. 5 seasons of pure brilliance. It was a "puppet" show but it had some amazing amounts of innuendo, or adult type humor. It was not, repeat NOT just for kids. The Raquel Welch episode was FAAAR FROM IT! LOL!! My point is it was a show for EVERYONE. The adult humor/innuendo/jokes, were tastefully done, the guest stars were a mix of💃dance🕺, 🎭comedy🤣, 🎼🎵🎶musical🎹🎸, and even an action star. Sylvester Stallone was a guest and yep he sang, TWICE! They created a world NOT of puppets and dolls. Not even remotely close. They created a world of wonder for kids, incredible humor for kids and their parents, as well as a world of characters that you loved, again NOT AS PUPPETS, but as who they were.🐸Kermit🐸 the🐸Frog🐸, 🐷Miss🐽🐽Piggy🐷, 🐷Pigs🐷in🐷Space🐷, 🐻Fozzie🐻the🐻Bear🐻, 🐶Rowlf🐶the🐶Dog🐶, um Gonzo the, um, hmm, um, Gonzo the👽👾👽? Even the amazing Band... they were awesome as well! Animal is loved by many, attacked by many more...lol, adored by all! Every skit was CREATIVELY done. Veterinarian's Hospital 🏥 the contiiinuuing stooory of a Quack who's gone to the Dogs! A perfect example of pure love and excitement of a skit. The care and dedication that these people did for this show was not only evident and obvious but it made their fans love it that much more! Pigs in Space was another 🤪goofy🤪skit. Fozzy🐻Bear's🐻 contiiinuuing booombing on stage was another hilarious stooory. 😂 As was Gonzo's attempt at ANYTHING! Yet they made EVERYONE of the characters so real, so special, that we loved them like real characters/people! Watching Kermit the 🐸Frog🐸 riding a🚴‍♂️🚴bicycle🚴‍♀️🚴🚴‍♀️🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚵‍♂️🚵‍♀️🚵 was incredible Fozzie driving his uncle's Studebaker? Wakka Wakka! Miss 🐷Piggy🐷 goimg Bruce Lee on everyone was epic! But Rowlf's Piano🎹🎹🎹🎹 playing🎹🎹🎹🎹 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎵🎵🎶🎵 and the band's jams on 🎸🎸Guitar🎸🎸🎺trumpet🎺🎻violins🎻and other🪕string🪕instruments, also a🎷saxophone🎷, and even bagpipes! But ANIMAL'S 🥁🥁DRUMMING🥁🥁 WAS THE BEST OF THEM ALL! Janice was great, but Animal was my favorite! Dr.Teeth had a great band! I really had forgotten about the Muppet Show. Now that I've "remembered" I am 100% fully invested in watching every show, any clip, an guest appearances, and movies that the Muppets did, or that Frank Oz and Jim Henson were a part of! They are truly ICONS in Hollywood and they deserve far more accolades that they've received. They helped launch or make popular one of the most educational programs, one of the most amazing kid oriented shows to ever get made. I mean of course of Sesame Street. Rowlf's start on the Jimmy Dean show was the first big opportunity they had. If you haven't seen it LOOK IT UP! IT IS INCREDIBLE! Especially when Rowlf meets his favorite gal, his crush, his LOVE! ❤😍💖❤LASSIE!😍💖💘❤ Yep Rowlf was in love with Lassie and Jimmy Dean got Lassie to come onto his show so Rowlf could meet her. I won't spoil it, but it was HILARIOUS! Kermit the 🐸Frog🐸 and Fozzie also co-hosted the Tonight Show. Yes Johnny Carson's Tonight Show! That how much FAITH Johnny Carson had in Kermit and Fozzie. Or in Jim Henson and Frank Oz. It was a incredible show! Vincent Price was the guest. It was very well made and extremely creative! But best of all it was like EVERY MUPPETS PERFORMANCE, PERFECT, AND EXTREMELY ENTERTAINING!
    RIP Mr. Jim Henson your brilliance, creativity, talent, humor, and amazing abilities are wonderfully beautiful to see. I feel blessed that I was able to see these iconic characters brought to life! God Bless you, and your Family and Friends. You are missed but NEVER forgotten! ❤

    You see how, in this 1990 repeat, CBS tried to deride cable TV channels (in Morley's opening remarks) by referring to them as "Television's permanent 'Twilight Zone'"? They were suffering from the inroads of cable competition at the time, while trying to convince advertisers that network TV was still "the only game in town". It was no longer the case by the mid-1980's. And CBS was the weakest of the four broadcast networks at the time, because their creaitivity and vitality were stagnating. This pattern continued through the 1990's.

    • @gracious1111
      @gracious1111 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do remember during that time that broadcast networks were still considered the "real thing" and cable channels were places for loads and loads of reruns; that's why he called it the permanent Twilight Zone. There was not a lot of original programming on many of these channels. Even "Night Flight" was often a collection of films etc. that had played elsewhere. Cable TV also seemed to be the place to find offbeat stuff things that weren't playing on the Big 3 networks.

      He meant "Cartoon-ish". "Cartoon Violence" doesnt always literally mean a cartoon.
