Nice version and such a beautiful voice. Peader Kearney was indeed a patriot and played his part during those times. He wrote a number of what has becomeknown as Rebel Songs including A Soldiers Song and what is now known as Amhrán na bhFiann and The Irish Nathional Anthem. It is a song that stirs up Pride in my Irish history and the brave men and women who paid such a price for what we see today.

There's about 400 years of rebellion and risings emanating from your voice through this song. your one of the best traditional singers I have heard. you sure your not Irish? Thank you for sharing this. It stirs the soul...

You should book some tour dates in Ireland. The Comhaltas would be only loving a session with someone of your talent. It would be great if you could cover a version of a song called Boolavouge. Its a slow ballad written in the memory of those who took part in the 1798 rebellion. It really is a lovely ballad. Hey, would you mind if I posted this video to my facebook page? my mates would love to hear this version of down by the Glenside?

Beautiful rendition, Adrienne. I'm an Irish fiddle player - of accompaniment to singers - it's a treat to hear the gorgeous music in this melody, and the song sung meaningfully. Great job! Keep up the good work.

It was written by Peadar Kearney, probably shortly after the Irish Civil War era. It was first recorded in the mid 1950s. Beautiful song - beautiful version you've done here. I hope you keep singing it for many years to come - and retell the story, over and over in your travels.

I've heard this song for many years by many artists...this is a very nice interpretation Adrienne. Love the inflections in your voice...very nice tone. For the fool that said lose the pop?? Clueless!! No ne wants to hear a great song sang the same exact way...it can never do justice to the original..what makes an artist stand out is taking a song and making it their own. I thought it was very good and would love to hear more Irish music.

There are so many great sad celtic songs that are just so satisfying to sing! haha the issue i've always run into is that those are almost exclusively the ones that I feel myself drawn to learn and sing :P My thought on hearing you sing this was "oh man, this would be a great one to learn!" and my second thought was "ha. yeah nolan, it'll be a great change of pace in your repertoire which is already made up of 85% slow sad songs." Well done! Sounds great as always! :)

    Brilliant 🤙
Sad part is I've lived in Dublin my entire life and not once ever have I heard this song at any session, you go to temple bar aka the tourist trap ask any performer to play any form or fashion of a rebel tune and you get told no.... That's not even a joke try it when your on your holidays.
Ireland has gone so P.C we can't even be seen to be proud of our Gaelic race.

In a pub in Temple Bar an American student of mine asked the band to play ‘A Nation Once Again’. ‘Not allowed’ was his answer. When I pointed out that it was written by a great Irish Protestant patriot in the 1840s, same answer. Poor old Thomas Davis must’ve been spinning in his grave.

    Greetings from Ireland, Adrienne.
I embed this video, to show local Girls that there is Music outside of Pop, as well as within it..
'T'was a Man that tried to sing it to me, 35 yrs ago - without accompaniment.
Instead of "scared" saw me, it used to the abbreviation of "never" - "ne'er" ( pronounce - naare ) saw me....
Exceptional. There is another one, another melody - "Boys of Barr Na Straide", which you would be good at, and the Christy Moore one of "Black is the Colour".

    • @heavyenlightenedone
      @heavyenlightenedone 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      " pluckin' (plucking) young Nettles".....
Presumably, to make a sort of "Soup" - which was heard of, but before this observer's time.
I don't hear, one Irish Girl, singing this - yet they should. Well done!
