Wow, this is amazing, gravity defying stuff. This new form of aerial 3D dance is absolutely mesmerizing to look at. The subtleties and nuances of body posture that produce such fluid yet dramatic maneuvers must have taken many hours of practice to master. I can see choreographed tunnel flying becoming a major Olympic sport in less than five years from now.
I've been in one of these, problem is unless your proficient at it then they won't let you do much more then effectively levitate on your chest. Still neat though.
Correction - Its not just that they won't let you, you just wont be able too. This has a steeper learning curve than any other sport, its super technical. Go in during a coaching session where they are teaching a student a new skill and you'll see how often they cork out and can't hold a head up or head down position until they're finally signed off on that skill.
you inspire me to be a future base jumper, I show all my friends your vids and they are amazed how cool it is when you fly in your wing suit. I'm currently 17 and planning on proximity wing-suit flying. I still yet have to do my first skydive, but I can already tell its something ill love for the rest of my life. Keep coming with the awesome videos Luke!
Thanks Kart Drifter for the comment and sharing my vids :). Will do my best, keep enjoying the vids for now and you'll be well on your way soon enough!
Sweet, yeah it's great fun and definitely not easy! The people in this video have definitely spent a good bit of time flying in there. Glad you got to check it out!
@ jamesd, well to Josh's credit, you made this comment 1 week ago and he said "bad ass" 6 months ago. So, according to your rules, people were still saying "bad ass" at the time.
Holy crap this looks nice! The possibilities!! I'm getting a headache, just thinking about how this on a large scale could like bring Harry potter quidditch and shit into the the real world. The ticket revenue, might even pay back the stadium lol. or maybe not Or imagine this as an elevator system.. Im beginning to visualise my dream house here
+Karl Johan They just build a wind tunnel near me recently. It looks amazing but it is such a rip off; spend over $100 for 4 turns of 60 seconds. 1 minute, then you have to let someone else go, and repeat. 4 minutes for over $100! That's ridiculous.
wolf wight omg I know! I feel bad for the instructors since they cant help to make decisions regarding time! But people are paying their salary!!!! They should make their timer longer but I know many people sign up so I can see why its limited! I just wish people can rent out the fan for like 10 min after they get trained properly and do stunts on their own! But as a corporate company they are just protecting themselves from a lawsuit!!!! figures...
@@jadenkor9 At the tunnel I am at our tunnel uses 800kW of power topped out and the facility pays about $40,000 a month in the summer for just power alone. That doesn't include the money to pay staff which is actually even more, permits, royalties, etc. It cost a lot to operate a wind tunnel you have no idea.
Next family get together I am totally up for this. I've wanted to do something like this since the first time I saw Willy Wonka and the chocolate factory. Let's dive right into it.
Ok but have you seen aman do a sideways cartwheel string in the glass or strap himself into an invisible car and then drive upwards. No? Then my coach is dope
What would be really cool is if you put some lights on the suits that are worn and on the helmets. And then have some good choreography to it and some good music maybe a little dubstep just an idea. Maybe some lasers and some Pink Floyd.*smiles* If this is done right, you might be able to take it on the road, maybe even Vegas! I actually see others doing this as a showstopper... It could be incorporated with a Cirque Du Soleil Show.... When you do this, let me know. Thanks!
i can see this becoming an Olympic sport. kinda like ice skating. or if someone could somehow make a football field sized wind chamber a completely new sport, like air soccer, football, fucking quiditch from harry potter or something. i would completely quit my day job for something like that.
Zucchini Juice Hardly a rich persons sport. Just a one time $400 some total for a basic full face helmet and wind tunnel suit if you want your own equipment.(I seen football equipment way more exspensive) At XP Paraclete near my house,$40-$100ish for 2-5min each flight, $700ish a month for 10min everyday if you want a membership plan. That's roughly about the same level of spending on brand name gym memberships and expenses(yoga, spinning, protein shakes, ect.)for each year. It may not look like it but it's as much of a workout as being in a gym. It only takes 2-5min to get tired from constantly using all your muscles for stable and controlled flight. The pros get tired at 10-15min. It's all a matter of preferences really. Now country club golf, that's a rich persons sport.
If I was a multimillionaire my nightclubs would've one of these chamber. Pass a breathalyzer and you can learn or perform; amateur hour. Afterwards its the pros turn, then it's party time like its 2999.
I whet there ones it was horrible the suites where so baggy and when i was flying it was like hurting so bad and i like blacked out and the 60 seconds whet by so fast but these guys are lucky they don't have baggy suites.
+Robin Oja Thanks Robin :). Anyone can go fly in the tunnel, even if you're not a skydiver. Everyone's learning curve is different, so it's not easy to answer your question, but to give you a reference, most of the people in this video have years of experience. If you aren't a skydiver and wanted to start flying on your own, it's likely that you could be flying on your own (without an instructor holding onto you) in a relatively short amount of time, but it will truly depend on how fast you learn and demonstrate you can fly safely on your own. I hope this helps!
What "wind" speeds do they set in these tunnels? I imagine you may want to vary it depending on what type of stuff you want to do? More time vertical body position = higher than more time horizontal body position?
The wind speeds vary quite a bit, there's actually a "driver", and just as you suspected, the driver sets the speed based on the needs of the person that's currently flying... Generally speaking, the air speed will be higher when we are flying vertical, but as a flyer gets better, their range is typically broadened, allowing them to fly them to fly at a bigger range of speeds...
Looks fun but kinda one of those stupid workers that you'll find in hobby town lol only interested helping customer who already had experience with stuff not to newbies. Yup gotta pay big to learn new things ...i don't see fat people in that ifly
This should be an Olympic sport.
+Turquoise Bunny I completely agree! It's growing fast and I think it has serious potential to make it there eventually!

yeah its a pretty expensive learning curve
Ye you can do courses tho but they are kinda expensive

So hows it being going?
put a green/blue screen behind that and you can make special effect in a movie like fighting while flying , realistic aerial scenes
These are so awesome!
This was too cool...
