Ahmedabad abounds in city stories. A well-known story is that of Manecknath, a sage who lived on the bank of the Sabarmati making quilts and weaving mats. For some reason he had dispute with Sultan Ahmed Shah, Who was building the fortress around the city. But, during the construction, walls built during the day turned to rubble at midnight, much to Ahmed Shah's bewilderment. He was mystified by the occurrence, till one of his informers told him that the fortress fell only when the saint pulled out the threads from the quilt he was making. The Sultan decided to meet Manecknath. After innumerable discussion and agreeing to conditions set by the saint, the dispute was resolved and the fortress was built.
It is said, Manecknath had a hypnotic presence wit fiery green eyes set in a strong-boned face, a golden mane of hair, diamond studs in his ears and always wore a red silk robe. Maneck Chowk is the venue of Manecknath's Samadhi. - from the book Ahmedabad, city with a past by Esther David.

Cute video with a friendly guy with lots of local knowledge.. But at which time of the day did you do that video? Ahmedabad looks so quite, almost deserted. That would be rather unusual for an Indian city..

We actually used some of your videos as recommendations for our trip.. So you see, you leave some impact..;-) We went to Delhi, Agra, Udaipur and Jaipur.(Agra could do with a little bit of cleaning, by the way.) In hindsight I think we should have skipped Delhi in favour of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. From a "tick off the most important sights" point of view Delhi is unavoidable, but from the atmosphere and the joy of the experience Rajasthan is so much better.
