Im looking into buying my first bike, it’ll be a grom. My mom won’t be too happy but I’m 20 already. But I feel so glad too have such a big grom community too help and give guidance.
I purchased a new '23 Grom on March 1st. On April 15th I had double-bypass open heart surgery at 75 years of age. Two days ago I rode my Grom to my doctor's follow up appointment. He was not happy with me, but my wife and I (her on her new KLX230 Kawasaki) rode for 60 miles that day. The '23 grom has a 5 speed transmission; not 4 like the earlier versions and a bit more power from engine changes. With my 283lb weight the bike strains to make 57MPH and it actually goes faster and better in 4th gear than 5th. It has a little flashing overspeed light telling you to upshift, but riding at that speed it is at 7,300RPM....not above redline. I believe it is better to rev it higher rather than lug the engine so it does not make excessive heat. It has a fuel mileage indicator in the dashboard and running at speed gets 105MPG The bike is very comfortable riding at 45-47MPH and there gets 134MPG.
Man that is awesome!! Glad to hear you're doing good! That's what it's all about right there, enjoying the times we're fortunate enough to have like that. I think I'd have to agree with ya too, i try not to lug mine around too much either. I've heard a handful of people say the same thing about the 5th gear on the 23's. You guys stay safe out there!
The only "cons" I have about the GROM are the mirrors are too close together so I only can see my shoulders. If the stems were 3 inches longer you could actually see in back of you and it really could use just a bit more displacement as I am a heavy guy and the bike tops out at 59 MPH. It would be nice if top speed was about 68MPH
your post has me leaning in a non-Grom direction. for 2 reasons. the 12" wheels and the wheels not having a knobby option. the honda 100 has 19" front and 16" rear wheels. here in colorado i take my honda 100 all over jeep roads and other trails. and on ebay i can get a kit to convert it to street legal. something i plan to do as my yamaha xt-225 enduro at 260# is too heavy for me to safely ride anymore on the dirt. i'm 77 . and can still ride it ok on the streets. but overall i've gotten too old for it. i do get a kick out of reading of us older boys still at it. and in the summer when i do the Tincup pass - Hancock pass loop lots of them will be out too livin' the dream. its fun to stop and visit w/ them. or even stop for lunch at that one restaurant along the way. that place is usually packed with atv'rs and dirt-bikers since it would take a load of money to upgrade a Grom to what i am already used to that path makes no sense. when i already have a dirt bike that will leave a stock Grom in the dust. its only advantage is being license-able out the door as-is ok , i know. the 100 frame size is for a teen ager in middle school. and with some 2x6 lumber and lots of foam and carpet the seat height has been raised accordingly. its weight is about 160#. and is an amount i can still get back up after a spill. in truth tho if i didnt have so many seasons on enduros already the Grom would have more appeal. all the vid's seen here show guys having fun. and it reminds me of my first doodle-bug back in grade school

Just an FYI the sensors at lights arnt weight sensors they’re either magnets or infrared light sensors that detect ur vehicle. I always thought they were weight until I met a guy who installed them lol
Yes, they are metal detectors. A 4' or so diameter coil of thin wire with a small current applied. Any large metal thing that passes over the coil disrupts the magnetic field and triggers the light. Pressure sensors would be messed up by thermal expansion/contraction of the pavement as the weather changes.
I'd have as #3 Con, the diminutive size of the bike. It's not conspicuous. In a world full of big, heavy and fast-moving cars and trucks, it's easy to overlook the Grom.

I think most traffic lights are triggered by a car sized loop of wire in the ground like a weak electro magnet . when enough metal gets over the loop it senses the change in the magnetic field .This can be fixed with some strong magnets down low on bike .

Hey 👋 question for beginner biker how do you stop when you stop at a light or more do you use 50 50 front and back brake or just the front brake or just the back brake
Good question man! The front brake is always going to have more stopping power compared to the rear so i tend to use more of that but also slightly dragging the rear brake on top of engine brake. There's really a lot of factors going into it but for a more simple/short answer, i do use both, but more of the front brake!
Brother I'm 15 I'm thinking of getting one I need no license to buy and ride perfectly legal here since it's a 125cc do you think I should get it as my first motorcycle and daily driver? The fuel efficiency is the one that attracts me the most I know how to use the clutch and gears just fine so I was thinking of buying one for $250 ish maybe more used I would use it mainly for city rides but there are some cases where I might wanna ride 200+ KM for a trip
@@NoersOn2 thanks man for the reply when I'm older I'll look at buying the XR250 or CRF250R for now I'll buy the Grom seems perfect for my needs Hey for $3 full tank that's like 200 On it riding maybe more even
I want a Grom so bad man. Pretty much all the streets around me are at most 60mph speed limits. The Grom is perfect for where I live, but I'm a big dude. 240lbs, I wonder if the Grom could take my weight 😮💨
I highly recommend one man!! They're a a blast no matter the size! It could definitely handle you no issue, heck you could even throw a bigger sprocket on the rear and that would help!
If you get one maybe get a big bore kit to help get that little extra power for the top speed increase. My road only has 1 exit and it goes directly into a 55mph road. Nobody did does limit and if you aren't doing 60-65 you'll get hit by someone not paying attention. I plan on getting the monkey and doing the 149cc big bore kit the same time I get the bike.
would probably look at a normal size bike if I was you. You'll be pegging the grom all the time and running that thing into the ground. Look at the CB300r or CB500r, they call those the bigger brother of the grom.
I am a 75 year old man that weighs 283lbs. I bought a black '23 Grom 3/1/23 as my bigger bikes I can no longer get my leg over. I feel my Grom will not go past 60 with my weight and may be even faster in 4th gear rather than 5th, but I have not yet fully flogged this engine until it is fully broken in.
Man could you see that not very bright of a head light. For the senser put a big magnet on the bottom of your bike it will set it off wieght has nothing to do with it. Zs190 swap it there a 5 speed electric start you can at least get to 75-8o mph out of it with a bracket it's a direct swap out and complete engine kit. 🏍️🛠️💯🍻👍✌️
I daily mine on a 50mph road.. The Grom is just barely enough considering traffic usually moves along at about 60.. A few mods and then it'll be a lot better - ..130mpg helps ease the pain though..

LOL, just purchased and will be riding my first motorcycle ever! Grom MSX125AS. After 3 days of riding it is going to deliver on fun and pleasure to ride. Funny thing, I don't have any friends that ride......WTF is up with that????
My buddy just hit a road sign on his bike, ended up losing his arm 😢 happy to hear that guy was alright
Sheesh man!! Sorry to hear about that! Definitely thinking about him as we get closer to the warmer weather! Never something i like to hear about 😞 be safe out there buddy!! 💪🏼🫡
Picking Mine up this Saturday!
6.6k 22 grom here. grom still fun
Would you say this bike is good for youngsters on a tight budget? I'm 17 and only earning around 490 a month, can I afford it?
Definitely! You can find them used all day long (where I'm at anyways, kind of varies by state) for $2-3k! Just be sure it's titled and ready to go and you're set
$490 a month, you should be focused on eating brother not toys. 😂
@@BaileeGermanottahe’s 17 lmao
@@BaileeGermanotta OP is 17 years old relax.
I have a cam and tune with 14t sprocket still get about 100 a tank
That camera GoPro quality is nice
so as a big dude looking at a grom for his first bike would u sugggest a real grom or would starting with a clone like an boom vader or icebear be cool
Grom all the way man. The clones aren't fuel injected so you won't have to worry about carb problems or any of that jazz, plus I've heard a lot of people complain about them, as cheap as they are anyways I'd spend the extra $$$ and just buy a grom! You won't be let down haha
It seems to light up the road well. I can't read the guage-it's all black to me-that's a problem.
I want one because I had a full size bike before and it was stolen and there a hell lot of bike thefts in my area I live in a ground floor flat shared parking so I could easy park the grom in my hallway and will be dry and safe
Hey Hey! Sand Springs! Nice to see some local content. Would love to learn how to ride a bike. Been looking into getting a little Grom. lmk if you want to meet up sometime and teach a newb!
Bro said you peak out on 65-70 with a stock sprocket and setup on the grom 💀I have a 2023 and just got its record of 60 with the stock set up (im 140lbs, was fully tucked, down a hill, and had been trying for months)...
@@NoersOn2 Thank you for the tip!
That headlight looks dim in the video. How is it IRL?
Super bright compared to stock in person! I'm borderline blind to begin with, and it's one of the best things I've done since buying it 🤣
I hit 55 top speed in my 2022 grom. I wish it'd hit 65-70.
New cpu pipes and intake. Also weight of rider.
Zs190cc swap it direct replacement with a bracket it's a 5speed electric start complete engine kit does 75-80mph😉👍✌️💯🛠️🏍️
stay to the right at traffic lights it should work for most
The only con about riding my Grom is when there is to much snow so I can't ride my Grom😪 or salt fuck road salt 🤣
What are you using to record
GoPro?
@@diegoalvarez1342 this was filmed on a hero 7! I recently just switched to the DJI Action 5 and would definitely recommend that over the GoPro!
Brother I'm 15
I'm thinking of getting one I need no license to buy and ride perfectly legal here since it's a 125cc do you think I should get it as my first motorcycle and daily driver?
The fuel efficiency is the one that attracts me the most I know how to use the clutch and gears just fine so I was thinking of buying one for $250 ish maybe more used
I would use it mainly for city rides but there are some cases where I might wanna ride 200+ KM for a trip
Definitely a perfect first bike! The fuel is the best part about it, i can fill up for less than $3 🤣🤣
@@NoersOn2 thanks man for the reply when I'm older I'll look at buying the XR250 or CRF250R for now I'll buy the Grom seems perfect for my needs
Hey for $3 full tank that's like 200 On it riding maybe more even
riding hard on my 2022 standard grom gets me 38 miles per litre. I have a 6 litre tank
Bros i weigh 230lbs and can't even go past like 57mph on flat road on my 2023 grom. Is that normal?
I’m 18 and am buying a grom this next week
Brand new23
I'm new to Motorcycles on thirty six foot two... What is the best Is grom iyo?
I will say, it gets around 105-111mpg for the 2023 Stock.
What bars are you running?
Those were the Protaper KLX110 bars!
They are fine for your weight , i weigh about 240 lbs and it rides completely fine with me on it , i got a 2014 honda grom and ive hit 72 on it so far
how the hell does my honda rebel sound so much worse that a grom 😢
I want one but I’m 6’5 😅
Some taller bars can always fix that! I've seen plenty of bigger guys mobbing around on them!
con #2 is really bad, on a Ruckus. Grom is way better. At 70 mph, stock Grom, be drafting and tucking.
I want one!
Bro why ppl that ride a grom they don’t have mirror on their bike, i don’t get it 😕
Dope as fuck
Appreciate you brother! Keep killing it out there yourself, i see the work 👀
Hoooooo yeeeaaaahhhhh!!!!!
My guy!!
I’ll sub
Most of the time it’s the metal
Smooth video
You just admitted you don't daily ride your grom so this vid means nothing !!!
Don’t daily one, it sucks
Better than whatever u ride
😂😂😂😂😂
I daily mine on a 50mph road.. The Grom is just barely enough considering traffic usually moves along at about 60.. A few mods and then it'll be a lot better
-
..130mpg helps ease the pain though..
@@watcherman65 z's 190cc swap 5speed electric start direct replacement with a bracket should get you 75-80 mph
Put this think in neutral it’s a stroke of luck.
