Crash Bandicoot is easily one of the most requested characters on this channel, so it was a real fun process researching the character and putting this video together! I hope you enjoy it!

Agreed they nailed that design.
Just a small correction, Sony never sold the rights to Universal. Universal Studios always had the rights to the characters, Sony only had the distribution rights for the first handful of Crash & Spyro games. After that, Universal interactive would split & merge with Vivendi. Finally, Vivendi would eventually be acquired by Sierra, which itself would acquired by Activision.

@Indoido I read interviews from people who worked a Naughty Dog, Sony, Insomniac Games & Universal Interactive, as well as articles about said companies. I also asked Crash Bandicoot producer David Siller about it years ago.

Definitely! I just got into the series with the N. Sane Trilogy and I love it and the character, he’s as timeless as Sonic and Mario in my opinion. Sure the design can be tweaked but the same goes for Sonic and Mario, God knows it goes for Sonic.

I can understand how crash’s Japanese design would appeal to that audience, however have never really been fond of it. I think crash losses his loveable goofiness in it.

Personally, I’m still a bit nostalgic for the Twinsanity design. It’s perfectly sleek, cartoony and expressive, and I think it still holds up today. The only thing I’d improve is the weird design of the shorts.
His model in Twinsanity was always my favorite of the ps2 area. I drew the most artwork of it.
Twinsanity is personally my favorite design. It has enough detail but not too much, perfectly in between angular and cartoony.
The look of him in Crash Twinsanity is personally one of my favourite designs of Crash Bandicoot
And one of my favourite Crash games.
Skylanders Crash is actually pretty good in my opinion. It's not an " HD version" of the original like N. Sane Trilogy's, but I think that it's a more smooth evolution of the character than Twinsanity's, for example.

I'm pretty nostalgic for Crash's first original model. I think there's a certain charm to his lower poly model with it's minimal details and overall simplicity. I would say it's similar to the same joy you feel when seeing Mario's Super Mario 64 model.

Unpopular opinion: Skylanders Crash is my favorite, mostly because it was stated to be inspired by tho old Willy the Wombat designs. I also think its the most delightfully cartoony, I perfer Crash with jeans, the mouth being the same color as the chest fur streamlines the design, and I like the larger mouth and hair. The only thing I don't like is the metal knuckles because they seem like the kind of thing a teenagers DeviantArt redesign of Crash would include and feel a little tryhardish and thats only because Crash being in a beat-'em-up would need to be punching things alot more.

Crash 2 model and animations are peek crash. He's goofy while still being terrified of everything but he gets through it which is what makes him endearing. Post Naughty Dog made him too much of a goofy idiot in his animations

The Twinsanity iteration of the crazy marsupial is the definitive version of him for me
Every time I think about the PS2 days I think about how much fun I had on Twin Insanity. Definitely one of my top 3 games next to KH2 and Sly Cooper.
I think the Titans/MOM Crash would be really good if he just kept the fingerless gloves. I like the silhouette of it. (But that's coming from someone who didn't play Crash as a kid)

I never got into Crash, but I always found his Twinsanity-era design the most appealing. He just looks better with the matching mouth and chest fur color.
I cant help myself, I'm such a sucker for the Japanese redesign. Especially seeing it in the Japanese designed DS game with heavy anime influences, I am so charmed. Although I do completely agree, the team behind the NSane Trilogy did a perfect job bringing the original design to modern consoles. As always Mark, great vid and I hope you didnt hurt yourself too bad on those boxes.
TBH, The Skylanders model for Crash looks amazing, and is my most favourite, just look at the detail, along with the fact it is based off Charles Zembillas’ concept art of the character.
I love the N.Sane Trilogy, but Crash 2-3’s model will always be my favorite, he looks perfect there

Oh my god, I watched this the moment I woke up and that intro will be remembered all day.
I've always been interested in new looks for characters.
Yeah common people detest the Titans and Mutant look but Crash is the furson-ification of the EXTREME 90s, so his reboot has always felt appropriate also this was the 00s when being EDGY AF was part of the trend. At least Crash and crew wasn't packing heat, swearing.
But we can all agree that Tiny Tiger's.... tiger design is a absolute sin.
I do have a soft spot for the japanese cute design, I wouldn't mind this as a skin in CTR NF some day.
When it comes to best design: I'd say that his Tag Team Racing/Crash Twinsanity model is the best also his animations are more cheeky.
The PS1 or the Twinsanity one. The remake is getting close but still lacks some of the funniest expressions.

Twinsanity has the best design! I also like how his markings on the back of his ears and back kinda make a satisfying symmetrical look which you always see since your behind him while controlling him

There’s something about the old model (crash 2/3) that I just prefer to the new one. Like, somethings missing on the new model that I can’t put my finger on. Don’t get me wrong, the new model is fantastic, but there’s just something about the original.

Compare his animation when you finish a level with all the crates in the PS1 and the remake (TA-TA-DA-TAHH). The PS1 is full meme face. The remake one looks soulless. Others animations in the remake do look good (the intro), but that one looks ugly.

I know right, but the good news is that the actual Skylanders model is still present hidden in the files of the N. Sane Trilogy and can be easily modded into the game. It’s a missed opportunity that didn’t pull off the Spider-Man PS4 skin modes, where you can either use the Tom Holland suits or the Tobey Maguire suits at anytime during the game, it also includes the cutscenes. I honestly think the Skylanders model would’ve fit perfectly with the cutscenes a lot more.
I actually really love Crash's designs for Crash of the Titans and Mind Over Mutant. There was something about the tribal tattoos that not only looked cool to me but give Crash a sense of some spirituality, mostly crazy and wild like he was.
But yeah Mind Over Mutant's box art of Crash was awful, no arguments there.

That opening was everything is hoped for and more. Great choice too, Crash 2 has always been my favourite. Crash 1 was the first game I owned on ps1 and somehow I missed the release of 2 and moved straight onto 3. I went to a friend's house to play crash 2 and I was blown away with the style and sleekness of the character design, as well as the world design. Also small note, really love how much you go into not just the design but the history and growth of the games themselves. Great work marky mark.

I do actualy really love the Crash of Titans design. As much as i like the original design, i think Crash of Titans design was just more up of my alley

I actually really like the Skylanders crash design, it's pretty stylish, but my super favourite design is the crash bandicoot 4 one.
Big fan of Crash Bandicoot and some of the games especially Crash 3.

Twinsanity Crash will probably always be the best look for Crash, but N. Sane Trilogy could be my favorite if they change his color a little like make his muzzle and stomach beige like how it was in Nitro Kart, and Twinsanity etc.
Great video man! I think you did choose the best model. However, if Crash does make it into Smash Bros. I wouldn't be shocked if it becomes my favorite model. I often find Smash's models to be my favorite versions of characters. (Except maybe Mega Man and Sonic)
Yeah smash models are usually awesome. Usually they are like some crazy hybrid of multiple good designs lol.

Kind of like how R.O.B. has his "Robot" design as default when you are playing the Japanese one? If they only went with one style I imagine it would be American since he's a Western character. But who knows, maybe we'll see in the next pack.

I really loved the tag team racing design, it was a mix of twin insanity and mind over mutant,
I personally like the mutant era deisgn for the design alone, but since i grew up with that design it might be a little byas.
Love so much this video, well done :) my favorite design it's from CB 1 to Wrath, but for some reason I have a nostalgic love for the renders Universal made on Wrath and the GBA games, I think they were so great and representative of Crash, the box art of XS became the mainstream picture of Crash Bandicoot for many years, and I love the models of those renders, Crash falling, the rocket one, spinning, Coco on his scooter and Crunch, they are gorgeous to look at
The crash twinsanity model will always be my favorite. It's just something about the knee pads on the jeans and the gray converses that I really like. At the same time not looking too different from his classic look.
Personally I really liked wrath of Cortex’s and twinsanity’s designs. Obviously the games themselves aren’t as well liked and understandably why, but Crash’s design was in my opinion one of the best
Acc the twinsanity game was received kinda well. The only problems that people had with the game was how rushed it was and you can see with the amount of bugs and cut levels in the code

@@josephedwards6406 There is probably a remake in the works rn after they finished nitro fueled. I've heard that twinsanity developers sent a letter congratulating the studio that N sane trilogy and that if one day they decided to remake twinsanity they'd love to help them.

my favorite design is twinsanitys ingame model. it could just be because its the first crash game i saw, but i really like how it looks, it doesnt have realistic ish fur and it doesnt look too flat.

I'm probably alone here but I really want a crash bandicoot racing game on modern mobile phones 😅, with that out of the way I would've loved a fuzzy lip crash (same color on chest and mouth) for the remaster 😂, you gotta admit the pink lips look a little funny
I really like how they brought back Crash for the Trilogy and gave Coco more playable levels. I love the redesign of Crash looking more detailed. I feel it expanded on what I saw from Twinsanity's Crash.

I'm a huge fan of not just Crash's look in Twinsanity, but him being totally silent is a huge plus. He almost gabbers and gibberishes too much in CTR:NF; making him totally silent is a really cool way of forcing the animators to give him character through do don't speak, and it's very reminiscent of how characters like Classic Sonic express themselves. It totally works well as a foil to jabberjaw Cortex.
The skylander and of the titans designs are my favorites. Maybe are diferent than the original, but looks great(in fact I have the crash skylander pack)
The 2-3 model is so great, especially for the hardware at the time. It's crazy that no one could actually make it better for 20 years! Plus the best version is just a new coat of paint because of more powerful hardware. In the same way that Mario's simple look is never ending, the same goes with those original Crash designs.

I actually like the tribal tattoos on crash, it just seems kinda fitting and I like the look I hope we see that version cameo in a future game

You kiddin'? COTT Crash looked great! Sure the gloves are gone, but he still kept the overall impression. In all honesty, it's one of the better designs to come out of the game.
The Twinsanity design of Crash is my favourite, I have the most nostalgia for it, it seems to be the most iconic look and I really wish that it would return.
When I was 4 years old, the first Crash Bandicoot game I've played was Mind Over Mutant, so its design for me is nice. I guess if I played the first game before, i would have another thought about its design.

5:50 TIL crash is inverse Kirby. Where everyone knows Kirby as a cute little puffball and is made to be a little more hardcore in the west, Crash is known for being a crazy boi, and is made to be cuter in Japan.

I think I figured out why famous well known game characters like Crash and Spyro have gotten their designs changed a lot is because of the change in different game developers. Different developers have their own idea how the character should look and give it their own spin. Crash is not had it as bad in my opinion then Spyro. I like N.sane and CTRNF designs the best for Crash. For Spyro its his Reignited design and Spyro was such a big huge part of my childhood that once I saw how he looked in Skylanders I thought it was a joke and was saddened by how they changed his looks. I feel Reignited is his best design and its the cutest design.
As a kid, my favorite design for Crash was Crash of the Titans.
Thinking about it, I would love to see a potential Neo Cortex vid like this. His design has always been my favorite of the series, especially his more squat designs like in Twinsanity. I know that's probably a super niche vid idea, but I love when you take a gander at the villains. :)

crash of the titans and mind over mutant were 2 of my favorite crash games, besides crash tag team racing and N sain trilogy, the games weren't that bad but the design was okay i guess, at the time that i played it i didn't really mind it was a fun game not gonna lie
To be honest I like Mind over mutants design over titans because it somewhat similar look to the classic design.
I love the Mind Over Mutant (In-game) style, I don't know what it is, maybe it's because I have most memories from that game, but that's my favorite style next to the now CTR: NF Crash.

The games are good, it's just that they don't feel like "Crash" games so everyone just hate them for that
I'd say that Crash's original 2d cartoon design was the most solid design, followed by the Crash 2 and 3 designs.
Crash 2 and Warped was my favourite character design.
