Challenging Approaches Crosswind Landings at Osaka Itami airport Japan airlines 787, Embraer & 737

- This Unusual approach at Osaka Itami Airport is due to the rare winds, It lasted about 2 hours before returning to the usual approach.
You'll see a Japan Airlines 787 flying across the city into the downwind leg and then making a nice right turn into the base leg before the mountain.

What impresses me more, than the work of the pilots, is the work of that cameraman. This is the most impressive curve I have ever seen in an aviation video. Amazing!

Great work from those Embraer, 737 and 787 drivers. Looks like the 73 deliberately went wide to set themselves up for a longer final than the other two, and be stabilised earlier - a very smart call.

ものすごく空気が澄んでいる。着陸コースに入ったときに見える生駒山が、宝塚や川西からここまで明瞭に見えることさえめったにない。
しかも、これだけ視界が良好な状態だと大抵北風です。南風の状態でというのは30年近くで何回あっただろう。
そういうことで、ものすごく貴重な映像です。
Yes, I tried 5 weeks and couldn't get the south wind again. I tried at the same month that this video was made but no strong south wind. thank you :)

8:05 oh, he's not going for near runway like the 787, 8:15 ok going for the further runway, 8:27 holy crap he doesn't see the traffic taking off, 8:39 wow, that telephoto lens is crazy. Great camera work

The combination of the perspective and long-focus lens really makes it hard to make out the relative position of those aircraft. I seriously thought that ERJ was going to crash into that Dash 8 lol. Anyway, those are some badass landings.
These pilots are masters at their work flying these planes the runways r very deceptive from northern ireland

The landing style to Osaka reminds me about kai tak landing before closed down in 1998
Osaka Airport (commonly known as Itami Airport Itami City, Osaka Prefecture) opened in 1939, and currently only domestic flights are operated. Due to noise problems, the business hours are from 7:00 to 21:00, and the annual number of passengers is 13 million, making it the 7th largest in Japan.

Brilliant footage. Tracking of the aircraft throughout is superb. The camera angle gives a deceptive perspective of the aircraft as though it is approaching at a perpendicular to the runway. Wish we could have some screeching sound.

08:20. For a moment I thought the airport wanted to do a quick turnaround military style. One plane lands, while another plane takes off on the SAME runway seconds apart. Smaller plane could get up with less ground. Then I thought...no way, civilians.
If I ever fly into Itami I'm gonna make sure I'm on the right hand side

I've had that before as a passenger. The airplane took so much time to land though it had already announced that it was landing soon. It must've been hovering over somewhere near the airport an hour or so. It was over Narita. How frustrating.

I was wondering where they were going to land as they approached the runway, but it was just the long-lens camera perspective which made them seem to pass by the runway as they approached.
That’s crazy! The telephoto lens compresses everything in an unrealistic looking way.
