With the city being located in the ruins of the home of Gods; maybe a good campaign subtitle would be, "Olympus Has Fallen". 😄😄😄 The city of the gods falling from the sky; like a stricken helicarrier.
Hah! Definitely a different take on what we ended up with. Given the origin story of the pit that we arrived at it’s more like Olympus had a bad case of divine indigestion and blew itself sky high.
I've been thinking about what the Macguffin Unobtainium could be, and I realized that magical technology could be a big thing in this world -- we already know of one powerful magitech item, i.e. the forcefield generator that keeps Colrain (relatively) safe. Which gives me two ideas: one, the macguffin stuff could be a rare power source that's only obtainable in these ruins and is necessary to make these items work, or two, the magitech items themselves are the treasure that can be found here. Maybe the method of making them was lost to history? Just food for thought! I'm sure you've got plenty of ideas for what it could be yourself
Yeah! Also, why not both? The items and the power source could work very well in combination. I think what easily could've happened was that the "god lands" that were assaulted by the armies of the oppressed sentient peoples had their own divine comforts and amenities - as well, of course, as weaponry and more productive technology. The ways to make these things could've been lost with their creator, the "Tinkerer God" whose workshop - a large, underground megastructure - blew up in a cataclysmic last stand, creating - I dunno, some sort of pit...? HAH! I like it!
Hey, Andersen. I hope I spelled your name correctly. A few ideas - the feared temple guards could be templars. But considering the Indian inspired names, maybe Thuggies (sic?) - as certain parts emerged it reminded me of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Also an idea for your McGuffin Unobtainium - perhaps a unique kind of volcanic glass that can be made into extraordinary, unbreakable blades. Or perhaps the scavengers are finding these weapons in the ruins - the method of their crafting lost to time - for now.
Howdy Corey! Don't worry too much about the spelling, Andreas is my actual name, "Anderson" is just a nickname given to me by somebody who couldn't pronounce it and I chose it for my non-native-language TH-cam channel to make it easier on everyone. Aaaaaaaaaanyway - yeah, I like the idea of throwing in some other cultural influences for the temple guard. Maybe not "thuggee" (thugs) as that carries quite a derogatory and criminal association but like the city itself it could be a hybrid. I'm picturing an armor with mail sleeves, a classic templar tabard. some kind of loose, vibrantly colored pants or even kilt / skirt type leg-wear, a turban or head-scarf, curved swords ("They got curved swords? CURRRRVED. SWORRRRDS!") etc. etc. The Indian naming scheme was more of a thing for the Prosperity of Chandra but that makes me wonder... I mean, Daraja had to come from somewhere, too, and the name sounds to my unattuned ears like it could fit in. Maybe she originated from the continent that the Prosperity now dominates and that's why the influence is there? I DO really like the volcanic glass idea. Maybe not as the McGuffin but as a further set piece to tie in the gods' death and monumental upheaval caused in the area. Maybe some ancient war god died and their shattering caused the volcanoes to spring up in the first place. The lava is said to be their blood and when it cools off in juuuuuuuust the right way, it creates this volcanic glass-like substance that cuts deeper than any metal. Divine-blood-lava infused volcano fragments! And that's the weapons the Cult of Irugu carry. And maybe Irugu was one of the fallen god's followers, like a general in their army or something. OH YEAH! That'd bring it together nicely!
That could work very well! Maybe a bit too direct a move to be the rival herself, she currently strikes me as someone who wants to pull the strings from the shadows (maybe even on behalf of the Prosperity of Chandra?!) but she might well have set up and be currently puppeteering the rebellious high noble to keep things in the city nice and unstable and her own illicit ventures undisturbed and profitable (or perhaps build enough consensus for an outside intervention due to the constant instability that the Prosperity can swoop in and be welcomed as saviors!).
Thanks! Yeah that's already got a nice little "DMs Choice" section in there to sneak in something more off the wall but for what I was looking for the amount of variety is a bit low. My mission statement in my head was something along the lines of "I wish there was a table where an end result could be an ogre barkeep or a lizardfolk barber" but I realize that's probably not something a lot of people are after.
It can be good to leave some details to be discovered/developed during play, but I think the Courts tool works best with 3 major figures and a blended pair of court tags. Even still, the guild and the criminals here will make for some great adventuring material!
Interesting! I did vary the level of granularity a bit when it comes to detail, fleshing some elements out to a very micro level and leaving even fairly important figures just in the shadows by implication, but that's mainly down to the nature of wanting to play a solo game in the setting. The more I flesh out, the more I paint myself into a corner with any future randomly generated story seeds. So I only dipped my toes into what the setting generator of WWN is truly capable of. I am, however, considering a future build that goes equally fine-grained on all levels, so this approach of creating a better dynamic via paired tags and multiple figures will be helpful!
Would highly recommend jumping on the line wolf discord server we love you over there. Also have you a shout in my newsletter. Your content has been great to watch. Do you think of this setting in a really tight genre as you are building? Or are you pulling from anything and everything that might be interesting to you?
Oh, huh! I didn't know about this, thank you for letting me know! I am not the most discord knowledgeable person, I barely use any platform outside of TH-cam to be honest. Also thanks for the shout-out! I'm definitely applying a bit of a filter on whatever ideas come to mind. I don't want to lose the sword and sorcery feel entirely and end up building something like Bloodborne's Old Yarnham instead (which given the prompts thus far could easily happen). But I don't really limit the influences, just grabbing whatever seems to fit and the giving it a sword and sorcery haircut and make-over.
This is a second attempt to send this comment (not sure if the first is visible or was unsent) Hi Anderson (checked the message prior about the proper spelling), about the list of playable races in 5e I have been referring to this r/DnD reddit link on the full list : www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/95tfwn/5e_a_random_race_table_phbvgtmee/ About the mcguffin unobtainium, I was thinking if the direct exposure over time would cause negative effects in people. The majority would be receiving slight effects as you previously mentioned since the material is processed before it could be put to safe use. This would mean that the item that the black market organization has would be something that only select few people/races would be able to wield/use (Suggesting a story pull inspired by Marvel Infinity stones and Assassin’s Creed Pieces of Eden) Not the type to add this in my comments but I hope you know that your content reaches many different people around the globe and it helps people, myself included in these dark times
Ah drat, probably got eaten by TH-cam's somewhat unpredictable spam filter as it contains a link. That reddit thread is actually a pretty strong basis for maybe just adapting my own, thanks a lot for linking! I also poked around the solo rpg subreddit and Errant Adventures recommended a set of Maze Rats tables (which I now own) to generate some fairly outlandish stuff. I also just saw some additional recommendation (Oldskull, AEG Ultimate Toolbox) I'll look into. Options! Tables! Jubilations! Interesting thought about the implication of the long-term corruption and the possible resistances required. The minor mutation aspect I'm definitely keeping, this might be a neat twist to add. I'm mainly thinking about the fuel-handling part, maybe not necessarily the (probably very rare) contraptions themselves. But that'd add additional logistics. Wanna use your Magically Fueled Doomblaster Ballista? Well, better employ some deep gnomes to load it because this stuff will melt the flesh off your human foot soldiers in no time! Hmmm! Oh wow, I genuinely didn't expect that one but it's great to hear that my occasional goofing in front of a camera adds some levity! Thanks for letting me know! As they say quite cheesily in Dragon Age, "dawn will come"!

Another idea: what if Jezebeth is the high noble who is the new Surrogate’s main rival? Or at least, allied with that noble?

Xanathars Guidelines has a lineare Table in Page 73. Mache that would help.
