Very happy to see you getting into Shadowdark! I think it'll be marriage made in heaven! It's even more fitting considering the shout-out Kelsey gave your channel in SoloDark.
That was a fairly surreal day, didn't expect that mention in SoloDark at all but was most certainly very happy about it. I've been following ShadowDark since its beta playtest version and backed the Kickstarter as soon as it launched so I'm glad I can finally free up some time to actually play it!
Great start! I am getting ready to play Shadowdark with some friends, and I sent the GM the link to this video to give him some ideas for worldbuilding.
Oh awesome! I feel like while worldbuilding has a ton of different angles you can approach it from and benefits a lot from a personalized approach, you can almost never go wrong with World Without Number, even if it's only the free PDF version. Such a brilliant collection of thought provoking tools.
I have watched a lot of different solo plays on youtube, and your by far the best one I know. I especially loved the Knave campaign, which is how i found your channel intially. The production of your videos and your creativity is really inspiring. Keep up the good work and I can't wait for more!
Thank you, I'm glad to hear you're enjoying my stuff! Knave was certainly a fun one to make, zero-prep can yield some interesting results but I also got a little lucky that the dice were kind enough to give me results that meshed together quite well. It can get a bit outlandish depending on how the rolls land occasionally.
I was thinking more into the direction of something less directly "personalized", more like a primordial force that maybe predates gods, creation and all other things, the ultimate "lightlessness" that lay dormant until some buffoon came along and said "let there be light" and it's been pissed off ever since.
Oof! That's a tough one. I love Swords & Wizardry among the OD&D/AD&D retroclones, it's a very useable collection of content without bloat and endlessly replayable. OSRIC also does a brilliant job in a similar vein and scores bonus points by integrating the 1E DM Guide content. Basic Fantasy RPG should probably win top spot just by lowering the barrier of entry to absolute zero as far as money investment and wealth of content is concerned. Outside of the pure D&D clone space, there's really no getting past the Black Sword Hack (Ultimate Chaos Edition). Such a slim book with so much crammed into it, the worldbuilding tools, the vibe, the art, it's hard to beat. Knave 1E would be a close second here I guess. I'm sure ShadowDark will climb in there somewhere too once I actually start playing it.
Great. Treating darknes as entity should be default way of playing SD. Now we need some stress mechanics and maybe few ideas of Shadow of the Demon Lord. Permanent wounds when character drop to 0 and managed to survive. Magic weapons that are also cursed in a same time ect. Just darker shadowdark.
It definitely stood out to me when I read it, this "darkness beyond darkness" in conjunction with the rules for light and no darkvision for the various origin species. I do like the idea of some more survival and stress mechanics, maybe also something like the hazard die or cursed die or whatever it's called in Sundered Isles. Fortunately ShadowDark is pretty fine with plugging in additional mechanics so I'll definitely scour their Discord to see whether people already adapted something and if not I'm sure there's a fairly quick and easy way to hack it in.
Thank you! For this video I exclusively used tracks from Epidemic Sound. There's three tracks in the episode: "Desert Winds" by Jon Sumner, "Ethelda's Last Breath" by Sage Oursler and "Gradual Collapse" by Jon Bjork.
Very happy to see you, along with your enthusiam and imagination back on my screen!

The Kel Sea 🤣🤣
I don't know what came over me. Fruit so low-hanging I needed an excavator.
16:05 Opens Worlds Without Number
16:12 First die roll
Perhaps the Shadow-Dark could be the remains of a dead malevolent God😮

@@killtenratsrpg sounds ominous and awesome!
What's your favorite OSR so far?

The whole living darkness thing is giving me heavy Darkest Dungeon feeling, where the darker it is the more dangerous.
