Ole was the epitome of a horseman. He cut a mean promo, he could wrestle or he could just kick your ass. He was gruff, but he fit the position to perfection.
David Crockett: "Brought to you by the National Wrestling Alliance, Jim Crockett Promotions Incorporated, 19 WXIX, SuperStation WTBS, and of course your true elite champions of Rockradio since 1967......" Tully Blanchard: "Good! Clean!! Fun!!!" Ole Anderson: "So crank it up to 102.7 FM and hear the real 'Rock 'N' Wrestling Stereo difference!" Joe Kelly: "WEBN Step aside small change!" Tree B. Frog: "RRRRRRRRRRRIBBIT!" Ric Flair: "Rock 'N' Roll Is forever, and so is WEBN The Tree Frogs! WOOOOOOO!!" Robot: "102.7 FM WEBN ROCKS CINCINNATI!"
There is a video on here where all the original Horsemen re-united over the summer for a convention. You could clearly see that Ole didn't want to be there. Tully, Flair, A.A. and JJ Dillion were having a great time. I'm glad to hear that Flair and Tully finally burried the hatched after the failed drug test incident back in 1989. I know they didn't speak for a good while after that went down.
When my appetite is Professional Wrestling I think of the NWA as good old fashioned home cooking like Grandma used to do it. I agree that the promos today are a waste of television time that could've been dedicated to an entertaining match. The WWE changes the rules every few years it seems like now. There are glimmers of good, but not many.
I get sad sometimes watching these old promos of Ole. Watching them you'd think he was having the time of his life with Ric and the rest of the horsemen. Only to find out years later that he didn't get along with any of them (well he tolerated Arn) and hasn't been on speaking terms with any of his old mates for years.
Ole's got a right to be angry towards the business, he busted his ass for the business, he was a wrestling lifer who had alot of his $ tied up with his territory, much like Verne, Fritz, Tully's Dad & others who were former stars & owners of territories. I mean, Vince put every single 1 of those guys out of business & didn't even bat an eye about it & then all these years later, Vince putting some of the legends that he put out of business & made jokes out of them like he did with Harley & thinks putting them in his HOF just makes everything better & it doesn't.
Look at that microphone!awesome post!!! Ole's the man!!I miss these old promos! Four Horsemen Four lifei miss those promos.nowadays the promos are shit! I love these old promos, it seems like anyone in the NWA could cut a killer promo. I bet even the weakest lower card wrestler could cut a better promo than 90% of the WWE.
I guarantee you Tully, Arn & Ric learned alot from Ole on how to be effective with their promos. I mean,NONE of today's talent up there at Vince's company can cut good promos like Ole, Arn & Tully could.
I wish ole had stayed around longer he was so good as a booker manager or GM HE could have done so much for wrestling, and why people may ask he was just that good on the mic and believed what he said and in the ring he could tell a story he played the tough guy but could sell often that was left to his partner because he was the most respected guy in ring of his area with the other wrestlers. He could have been world champion but would rather spend the time with his family. He was the kind of guy that treated ever dollar as a prisoner and could have retired at 40 and lived a very comfortable life . He did not like drugs or drug users and was harder than a rock . Vince McMahon really wanted to have him in the WWF for his wrestling brain but Ole didn't believe he could pay him what he offered and told him and his wife to go fuck them selfs I think he regretted that. But he had lots of money so it wasn't the end of the world . I just think wrestling would have been very different if he had spent a good amount of time in the wwe. I'm not sure if he would work with child molesters and drug users and the shady behind the scenes in WWF/WWE
My dream Horsemen: JJ DIllion: Bobby Heenan Ric Flair: Nick Bockwinkel Tully Blanchard: Gino Hernadenez Arn Anderson: Greg Valentine Ole Anderson: King Kong Angelo Mosca
true but I based my dream on similarites of each man. Like Heenan and Bockwinkel was to AWA like Dillion and Flair was to NWA. Gino was tag team partners with Tully in SW Championship wrestling, Arn was a tough man like Valentine who could take out punishment and dish it out and Mosca was a big man like Ole.
Tully had a good run with JCP and then with Arn Anderson in WWE. Too bad he screwed himself (and Arn) up by failing that drug test. Ted Turner refused to hire him back and cut Arn's pay in the process. I know Ric Flair was furious with Tully about that.
Tully was a class act as a heel and Ole was just DAMN GOOD!
Ole's the man!!
I miss these old promos!
Four Horsemen Four life!
@HBKFAN515, Ole has always been the man.
Shit man! I thought that was AA. They look almost identical. I know they were kayfabe brothers but they looked quite identical
Simply the best heel team ever. 4 Horsemen were the gold standard for promos and action.
The original four & JJ were the perfect combo.
This just came up in my suggestions. I apparently liked it a couple of years ago. I wish I could like it again. The horsemen were the best.
An era that doesn't exist any longer.
It's kinda like high school... you savor the memories.
What a promo at the Cincy Gardens. That Bell time was later than what they do today but wrestling there was always great
Tully was 1 of the best talkers ever.
Classic 4 horsemen promo.
Tully was great.
Tully was a king of cool heel.
Ole was the epitome of a horseman. He cut a mean promo, he could wrestle or he could just kick your ass. He was gruff, but he fit the position to perfection.
The Cincinnati Gardens is going to be on fire
Tully Blanchard cut an entire promo with his left hand in his pocket. Unbelieveable.
ahhh tully blanchard, you know i was named after him? :)
Ole Anderson was so believable
Yep, Ole was always believable, unlike alot of the heels working in the business today.
They DID have belts for them, there were TWO sets of belts made; one for World Class in 1985 and one set finally made for JCP-MACW in 1987.
Man this takes me back. They just don't do wrestling like this anymore.
David Crockett: "Brought to you by the National Wrestling Alliance, Jim Crockett Promotions Incorporated, 19 WXIX, SuperStation WTBS, and of course your true elite champions of Rockradio since 1967......" Lol, Tony Schiavone with a moustache.
Blanchard and Anderson look like a couple of South African secret policemen from the 1980's.
I loved the Wrecking Crew. What the Original 4 Horsemen said went and that was the bottom line.
Arn's gonna be hiding in the lurks

@handsome102180 Rock was also his nickname during his run with the horsemen. They called him that lots of times.
Schiavone looks like such a kid here, hahaha...
Look at that microphone!

Great promo! Interesting how Blanchard referred to Anderson as "Rock" in reference to his original stage name as "Rock Rogowski". Just sayin'.....

@huntercentury I have to agree with you,but the fabulous freebirds were just as good.
Poor Ole, wishes he were dead.
and did not have to have it written for him like the rocks and Ortons of the world.
