I have literally been waiting for you to post this video. Not one video has convinced me to buy this, and without fail I now know that I want one now. You create sounds from that box that are worthy to be in feature films! Not even Elektron employees are creating intricate compositions like this! You are on🔥
Too true - a great piece of art is the best advert. Fender never sold Strats, The Shadows and Hendrix did. This is not my genre at all but I eagerly watch every video as it's simply great music and a technical mastercalss. If anyone has any tips for other great electronic artists doing a similar thing on youtube I'd like to hear about them in this comment section. Good day to you all.🎼🎵🎶
Oh my word. This is one of the most beautiful compositions I have heard in a long time. I was completely entranced the entire track. Phenomenal job. I can’t wait to explore the rest of your music. I am totally inspired by you. Timing is great as well because my digitone II arrives tomorrow!
Thanks a lot !! Had the Digitone here already 2 days after release ... but had to ignore it deliberately to get my sound pack for the Digitakt II ready ... that was really hard 😅
I just picked up the Digitone 2 a couple of days ago and just found this... Absolutely incredible -- the most beautiful, awe inspiring song I've heard on the DN2 yet.. Well done!
Makes me feel good abt my Digitone Keys as I never wanted it as a main piece of gear, BUT the FATAR keybed in the format cannot be beat. Knowing that I can do similar sounds with reduced voices doesn't bother me, the 4 stereo pair out make it a great way to get a nice percussive element going to, and for post work it's perfect for me. I am eternally in gratitude for you, you helped me understand what the Digitone can do, and what you've shown here is another whole level altogether. Kudos, you're a champion.
yeah, this really is a Dreamlike upload...........so ethereal and ephemeral...............another brilliant offering.....................Inspired & inspiring..................
Excellent,as always Substan. Your approach to the Digis made my setup gravitate around them more and more in the last months, I'm even considering selling my last big poly boys and consolidate on Hapax+Digi trinity and a 303. Loving your ST sounds pack since a while now and started exploring DTII pack a couple of days ago (those drones are wonderful!). Hopefully I'll grab a DNII sooner than later and call me out of GAS for a while. I'd also like to echo other comments here about Elektron not giving credit to your amazing work with their boxes. I can easily see your sound packs featured on the official shop, they are really a work of love and absolutely worth for everyone using a Digi. Keep posting mate, your music is amazing ❤
Great work and inspiration from substan as always. And temptation.. I have originally sold all except octatrack and syntakt. Now I have new digitakt again and just today ordered new digitone. Beyond help…
I've never used an Elektron but I'm impressed by this...seems like you can actually make full compositions with this box. Would love if you could record the process of you making a track from scratch! And great song by the way very cinematic, I love the rif at 3:56
Any problems with the screen? Some have been having issues but normally elektrons quality control is pretty solid. Amazing track brother and happy new year.
wow!!!! this is another level!!! thank you for sharing your talents with us!!! keep them coming!!! I was waiting for this!!! I’m considering getting the Digitone 2 only because of this video, Elektron should considerate to give some commissions... thank you for your art!!!! Do you have any tutorials?
Thanks a lot !! I have quite a few tutorials on Patreon ... so far nothing about the Digitone II ... but I'm sure there will be something coming in the near future.
Thanks … not so much … ok there are a few plugins and devices involved but just for little subtle adjustments … a touch coloring/saturation with Kazrog True Iron and Slate SSL bus comp plugin … my little 500 series hardware rack (Elysia Xfilter & Xpressor, SPL Big) for EQ, compression and stereo widening .. Vertigo VSE-2 EQ for a touch AIR .. and sonox inflator & softtube weiss DS-1 mk3 for limiting.
All made with this machine and nothing else? how do you record the tracks? (sorry noob) are you doing this live (on the video) or you can record it all on the machine as a song?
Yes ... it´s pure Digitone II. I simply record the tracks with a portable field recorder. You create patterns with the sequencer of the Digitone which you then arrange into a song. Recording what you play (sequence of patterns) in a song on the Digitone is not really possible. Either you switch patterns manually and create an arrangement or you let patterns switch by themselves in a so-called “songmode” ... but you have to prepare both. Or you prepare only a little and do everything spontaneously on the fly.
The sound pack also works perfectly on the DN II. Aside from that, the successor for the DN II is already in the works. I'm very happy to hear that you like it so much 🙏
@@substan_music great ! i'll download it again and put it on my new DN II, cant wait for the new iteration of digitales, this sound pack really gave life to my DN I and completely changed the style of music i made (for the better of course :) )
As soon as overbridge (Elektron's interface plugin between device and DAW) is available for the Digitone II, this will be possible very comfortable ... should happen relatively soon.
Just gorgeous absolutely brilliant. Do you have a Patreon and do you have tutorials? This is the type of music I need to learn to make and would be happy to invest in lessons or tutorials. Thank you for your consideration.
Thanks a lot !! Yes .. there are quite a few tutorials on my Patreon .. you can also drop your questions there .. and maybe even lessons in the future (not sure yet). Link is in the description of my videos.
Oh my, this is epic! I don't know Digitone at all and would like to ask the following question - so is this all composed, arranged and sequenced entirely using the Digitone? Are you using any external gear here?
This is really very difficult to answer and of course depends a lot on how much experience you have. Elektrons are generally not considered to be the easiest devices or particularly beginner-friendly. But it is definitely doable, as I have seen with some of my patrons. It wasn't particularly difficult for me ... but I've been dealing with this subject for 30 years now.
Is it only imagination, or does it sound cleaner and less raw than the OG Digitone? Like with the Digitakt 2, where they cleaned up the sound, probably to create space for the many tracks.
My subjective impression is also that it sounds a touch less „LoFi“ or cleaner .. maybe newer/better converters? .. but with all the new sound design options DN II sounds will sound different anyway.
@@substan_music After listening to some of your earlier works, which was exciting to me again, I'm positive I like the old sound better, it's like a characterful, sweet spot for FM for me. Considering getting the OG Digitakt+Digitone pair again, for their "vintage soul", now mostly neglected.
Not necessarily all the studio tools available in a DAW .. but more than enough options and tools in a single box to create a decent piece without a DAW
Thanks !! Definitely ... the new filters sound different (fantastic) ... the new machines allow different kinds of sound ... and also the FM machine has been reprogrammed from scratch (but I'm not sure if there are any sonic differences there ... maybe less aliasing). I can't help thinking that the DN1 sounds a bit warmer in a lot of vide, even in your videos such as Neon Sky compared to this one, and not having either I'm feeling tempted to get the DN1. Someone mentioned in the comments in an Ivar Tryti vid that the DN2 and DT2 use new SHARC audio processing. Do you think that could be related to what I'm hearing? Maybe I just haven't heard enough music with the DN2 yet.
@@Pharmacymusic1 It’s nearly impossible to judge the sound from 2 different videos .. even a slightly different mastering makes a way bigger difference in sound. The only way to really compare would be a quite simple sound (without random modulation) on both devices side by side. The DSP by itself shouldn’t make any difference since it only calculates .. but I would guess that the converters are also slightly improved ones. I would say that DN1 sounds slightly more LoFi .. but not necessarily warmer. But for me there is no point in doing a time consuming A-B comparison since I will make different sounds with DN II anyway .. due to the new expanded sound design options.

I know people would say they are all computers and this is true but it comes down to what people say about a certain character or mojo in older machines, which maybe the DN1 and DT1 have a bit more of for me. I also wonder if it's possible that the new machines have a very slight difference in frequency curve which makes this difference. This is just unreal. Can't believe how good the drums sound. Haven't turned my headphones up this high in a minute.
