Hey man, I super appreciate the Zombie Gentleman shout out! Here are some extra tips for sewing patches : I recommend ironing them on as a way to temporarily hold the patches in place while you sew them, but pinning works just as well. I use heavy duty or upholstery thread which is way more durable than standard thread. Also, if you are going to iron them on, you need something that gets hotter than a standard iron and always iron them from the inside out, that way the heat seal backing has better contact to the heat source. Finally, there are needle packs for leather work that come with both straight and curved needles. These are a little easier to thread and also sew into denim. I use a machine with denim specific needles. Anyway, thanks again - Ken (Zombie Gentleman)
Awesome tips, thanks Ken!!!
HELL YES! I see a few Severed Books patches/pins. Thank you for the support!
Of course!
It's funny, this s video started me down the path of a TTRPG battle vest. This chistmas/B-rday ( born a week after xmas), my SO got me a vest and patches. Next few months will see me running down the rabbit hole of searching for the right blend of everything, and let me do something I had thought about way back in the day. Love the channel, keep this train rolling my friend.
So cool! May your path be filled with success. Cheers!
Great Battle Vest videos! I appreciate seeing the evolution over time.
1972 was the time of CB radios, Car Rallies, Coffee Meetups, and Flea Market badge vendors. It grew from part of bowling, biker & rat rod culture that also became part of hot rod, rock 'n roll, trucker, 4WD cultures, and CB families (like mine). I was very pleased to see you adapt it for TTRPGs.
My whole family had matching red canvas vests with about 50 patches and dozens of pins. I was 12 when I started mine. Before the red vest, I wore my dad's old Levi's greaser jacket with the "What Me Worry" patch on the back. Decades later, I became a video game designer - the reward for being the Lead Designer on ST:TNG for SEGA Genesis (1994) was a wonderful team denim jacket with the Enterprise on the back. I still wear it to this day. But it now includes a variety of pins and badges that I've added over the years. Including many classic cartoon villains and several TTRPGs. I don't have the heart to cover the original machine embroidery with patches or cut the sleeves - but pins & buttons are just fine.
Cheers!
So cool! Thank you for sharing!!!
If you ever want to, adding DIY puppetry tutorials to what you do would also be very appreciated .
Adding this sort of DIY element to your channel is an excellent idea!
I am a firm believer that if you want a subculture done right, you gotta do it yourself
DIY empowers people and that is never a bad thing
I have a young gamer nerd Padewan in my life, and i will be showing him how to make his own epic medieval style dicebag as a teaser to get them into learning some practical sewing
The first time I ever saw one of your videos, it was probably something like 50% video title, and 50% your battle vest in the thumbnail. Pretty sure I subbed right away.
Anyhow, I started buying patches a few weeks back because I wanted to make my own battle vest, and here you are with a tutorial. What EPIC timing!!
@@BargeekHell yeah!
It's so funny. I'm working on a vest with Eat the reich (ttrpg game) patches when this video was recommended to me.
You got a new subscriber now.
Sweet!
Such great RPG armor!
You're too kind!
I love your battle vests. I plan to make a Metal/TTRPG vest in the near future. Thanks for the tips!
I've started doing a slip knot loop and passing the end through the loop before pulling it tight to make my knot makes a perfect double knot every time. First time seeing your content by the way. I'm planning on making an Ashton Greymoore messenger bag and a vest like this would be perfect to go with it.
Awesome! Thanks for the tip on slip knot loop!
Great timing! Inspired by your vest I picked one up a week ago and pulled my patch collection out. Then you drop this video. Awesome!
And with the hundreds spent and time invested, the love put into handcrafting a killer denim vest, it ends up hanging in the closet for fear of anything ever happening to it. I love this idea as I also grew up in the 70s and 80s (considered a 'Rocker'. Ha!) and this just hits home. But I am also paranoid as hell of something damaging the vest the moment I go to wear it. Ugh. Is there a way to get passed this phobia? F*ck it, you only live once.
Great video! Now I have a new hobby to invest in.
I totally get it. When ever I go out with it on I make sure I am always in a place where I keep it on. Never dreaming of taking it off for fear of losing it. It does take some forethought. Really, I wear mine for videos…rather safe. Or conventions.
@@AgranakStudios Oh, and where did you get that Dragon's Lair 'Game Over' patch? Love it! Huge DL fan.
This is amazing. There was a shirt I found that had a design I would have loved as a patch. I didn't even think about using it as aa back patch. Thanks for the idea.
FANTASTIC!!! Will be doing this someday :)
I SEE THAT HEILUNG PIN ON YOUR JACKET! UNFATHOMABLY BASED!
Step 1 Alternative: Thrift Shops. It's playing the odds, but you'd be surprised what you can dig up in a thrift shop. Also, if you can't find a vest, look for a jacket then amputate the sleeves.
I had a dnd battle jacket and I didn’t realize it. It had a ton of weird patches but now I’m adding a d20
Niiiice!
Great video! You got me considering starting my own battle vest now, well played!
Awesome video! Looking forward to the “battle neck tie” for Influencer’s like PDM - be sure to get a patch that tells other your current armor class bonuses! ( +2 cool battle vest of protection)
sweet video. I had an idea to do this a month ago and now I found your channel. Time to get stitchin and stop my bitchin
Thought of Maurice from Little Monsters the whole time watching this. Just getting into OSE with my two young goblins and what a project this would be to one day hand down to them. Thank you this for this incredible project idea.
Totally inspired by this vid.
Decided to make one and going cy_borg, post-apoc, hacker futurism battle vest theme!
Awesome!
Sweet video!
I scored some mothership patches with the 1e Kickstarter!
I did the same for what I call my 'Geek Kutte'. Mostly sci-fi and fantasy stuff I like. Then I got a Star Trek Kutte and a Klingon Kutte based on an old ThinkGeek 'Sons of Stovokor' jacket. I definitely want a DM kutte with some crazy 80s style fantasy oil painting on the back.
Only problem I run into is it's hard to find a denim jacket in a used clothing store any more.
Top tips for your battle jacket needs! 🤘
I have a convention "bag of holding" with velcro i use for carrying around my RPG books and mini laptop. I prefer the rubber patches from patchlab and a few other places for it over the embroidered ones because they're more clear. also the velcro means i can trade it around for a new campaign (currently its got a cyberpunk theme)
Thanks for sharing great vest 🤘
They make 8x11 fabric sheets that are designed to go through an ink jet printer. So you can literally print your own patches!
might do this with all the patches on my DM screen bag that
nobody ever gets to see
I challenge all cultists to make their own bad ass battle jackets! First step is to be a Patreon and get your official Agranak Cult patch. Get sewing! No excuses!!!!
Making one for GenCon. See you there I hope!
I would love to go. Not this year, sadly. Hoping to make it to GaryCon next year!
🤘
I've been inspired to see if I can make my own kutte, but a general nerdy/geeky one. I found pins and buttons I've collected for years, plus a patch that I want to use as the piece de resistance, one with the Apollo 11 emblem on it. I don't know if it's original or a reproduction. I got it at a yard sale about 40 years ago. I definitely need more patches though.
METAL!
HMM might be time for me to hit up the Army surplus store they have some of their coats are denem I have one that's the old Snow camo (i'd use it but it's sentimental at this point)
I think they're cool on you, but I'm not really interested in having one for myself. That might change if I ever move stateside and get into the convention attending practice.
I want to send you some pins, my fiend.
By all means!
You’re in an HMC?
Yes sir.
@@AgranakStudios I used to be in one of the bigger American HMC’s, but had to bow out because they grew gang like mentalities, which is the exact opposite of how the original clubs from Europe conduct themselves.
Mmmmmnope
Mmmmmkay
If you want proof that metal has gone mainstream....
Lol
Dude this has to be the most cringe thing I have ever seen lmao
Aww. It's okay, you'll get over it. I hope.🤣
