Your work was great here as usual. Consistently funny and thorough. I will give it to this game that some of the spectacles looked pretty cool. But not nearly as cool as I bet some of the devs thought they looked. This was very entertaining, thanks for making my piled up dishes a whole let less grueling to fight through. In my recommendeds I see the thumbnail for Murdered : Soul Suspect. That cover art got me curious, as much as the title pun makes me grimace before I've seen a single frame of the game 😂

Thank as always, and good, you're in the right mindset for the rest of Murdered then!

Here after the semi-recent ish announcement of Ninja Gaiden Ragebound, and man… I can see why it was hard for Team Ninja to even think about lending out the IP to a different developer again.
As for the review itself I at least appreciate you giving it a try, and the benefit of the doubt. That and also providing as much additional context behind the game and well… helping explain why Yaiba turned out the way it did. I’m glad Team Ninja has had the confidence and trust a different game developer again, but the fact they had to stumble to get there first kinda makes that inital attempt of a spin off like Yaiba, sting a little. Also man I feel so bad for Spark Unlimited, I’m glad they’re able to work on a Ninja Gaiden game but I do wish it was a game they had genuine passion for.

Yeah... I'm excited for Ragebound, but as you can imagine, I'm feeling just as gun shy about it as I'm sure Team Ninja was greenlighting it after spending so much time with Yaiba.
Also I definitely feel you on Spark Unlimited, they absolutely got the short end of the stick here. They had a less than stellar catalog overall (Yaiba is certainly not the last time we'll see of them on this channel) but you can see sparks of competence in there and there are a few genuinely decent moments and ideas, so that things worked out as they did for them is really sad.

Well... Not the sorts of things you'd expect out Ninja Gaiden as you can imagine.

It strikes me that having all the enemies brightly coloured and glowing whilst your character is dressed in dark clothes was not a good design decision.
I keep having difficulty keeping track of him because the environment and enemies are so vibrant by comparison and my eye is drawn away from the player character.
I feel like the other Ninja Gaiden games post reboot were better at this because of the slower gameplay, more naturalistic colour and lighting effects and the fact that the camera is much less pulled out from the action.
I can barely see what's going on in a bunch of the combat arenas in this game.

I also feel like it's a bit weird that this is essentially the same concept as Hunt Down The Freeman and I legitimately thought you'd overlaid dialogue from that game over Yaiba's opening monologue. I thought it was either from there or it was from some version of the Postal Dude.

Honestly I'll take Postal Dude dialog over Yaiba's any day, the Dude is somewhat self-aware of how goofily edgy and crass his schtick is (at least from Postal 2 onwards).

Not going to lie the game is indeed bad but I do love it for how terrible and good the game can be sometimes "SOMETIMES" the game is not always fun outstanding review i hope to see more you just got a sub my good man

It does have its moments for sure and I'll give Yaiba this, it's never a 'boring' game, which is ultimately the most important thing. Anyways thanks for the sub, really appreciate it!

Yaiba killed the 3D NG games. But I do appreciate the effort, just wish they picked a better style of gameplay loop than…zombies? Then making Yaiba an edgy Deadpool potty mouth guy to contrast Ryu’s more stoic tone also sucked. It’s like they wanted a Dante to Ryu’s Vergil in a way. But it was terribly executed.
Like DMC reboot, these games followed a game that took a step away from what make the previous game before it special. And instead of building on what made the series to that point special, they tried to reinvent the formula. NG3 and DMC4. Leading us to get DMC reboot and NGZ. Shoot you could even throw in GoW Ascension having some black sheep characteristics. DMC fixed it and recovered with DMC5, GoW rebooted entirely with GOW ps4 while up until a month ago NG was almost left to dead because of the last two games being departures from NG1 and 2

Yep, I agree with more or less all of that. I will say there is at least a good core reason for why things with Ninja Gaiden went the way they did, as with Itagaki leaving the principle vision for that series went with it. NG3 and Yaiba were Team Ninja & Koei Tecmo trying to figure out what post-Itagaki Ninja Gaiden even was and clearly not finding a good answer. While it's a bummer it meant the series was put on ice until now, I imagine how things went down with those games did at least push Team Ninja to focus on Nioh instead and Nioh 1 & 2 are some of my favourite games, so I consider that a silver lining.
