I agree that Bill Hicks was quite the genius, but instead of saying that we need him now due to the stupid bullshit that happens from time to time on this planet. Let's be the voice that we want to hear. How about we stop saying we need somebody to talk for us, and start doing it ourselves?

I was lucky enough to see his final show in the UK. At the end he literally asked for a subject and he would riff on it. Nottingham being a student town, the first voice was 'Freud!' to which he replied 'He said all sons want to sleep with their mothers. Not true, they all wanted to sleep with Freud's mother. Did you see her topless Ms. Schloss Schauenstein 1863?'.
Maybe that is a well worn gag I didn't hear but 2500 of us were just blown into the weeds. He was god to us. Better than god. He assured and still reassures us that life is just a ride. Think for our selves, do not accept another's views unthinkingly and to love all the people.
As a Bahá'í, I do think his purpose was to make the world better for every single one of us. God isn't some external entity, god is the sum total of humanity. We die but the ripples our presence causes makes a difference good or bad. He changed the world. He made us believe in people again.

With a prepared idea and a story line to tell his armchair liberal UK audience that evening, the attendee he had get up and discuss about Freud was undoubtedly a plant. I've seen enough of Bill Hicks' ramblings in videos to know that he wasn't the brilliant comedian that his ardent followers believed him to be.

Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Pat Condell, Richard Dawkins, Sam Kinison are just the top few of my favorite people in the world. Most of the ones that were also comedians I respected not just for making us laugh but because of the genuine humanity or with Hicks, a desire to make people more aware of the world. We still have magnificent people like Dawkins, Hawking and Pat Condell to look up to and to inspire others but such people are very rare, I appreciate all the mad honesty they have to give.

As it turns out, Bill Hicks told the story of stating on his deathbed that he wanted to be saved by Jesus towards the end of his life, as said by his friend Kevin Booth. At his funeral, the Baptist minister revealed that he had embraced Jesus as his one and only Savior, in a video that I watched on TH-cam. If this knowledge is true in any way, Bill Hicks' own conviction and assertion that life is nothing more than a carnival ride-which he regularly raved about to his fervently liberal and atheist followers-are completely invalidated.
