So I bought another Honda EU1000i Inverter Generator. When was it last serviced? Let's service it!

    I was dumpster diving and found one of these in the original box , opened but still with all the factory foam ect, got it home and gassed it up and tried to start it and that was a no go , I took the service cover off and it looked like all the exposed wires were eaten thru ( mice or rat) found a hole chewed they the box and where the pull cord is you can tell it was chewed alittle there to gain access in the carpartment , well I spliced all the wires back together, put fresh oil in it and it fired up. Been using it for 3 years now with our fault. Best dumpster diving score of my life other then a old stihl 044 that needed work

    I just got one of these from a tenant who left all kinds of stuff behind in a rental. It won't start, but who knows when was the last time it had any service (if at all!) The only thing I've done so far was pull the spark plug, which looks pretty wasted. Gonna be an interesting project.

      Dump the fuel, clean the carb, plug, oil, and air filter clean. Clean the spark arrestor and she will run like new. I have likely put cleanse to 100 hours on this unit this year, flawless!

    Glenn, there is another (tiny) filter at the bottom of the fuel tank (inserted into the fuel line).
    Also, the valve clearances may have to be checked ....every 10 years or so , which involves
    getting the engine out ! (they'll get a bit loose with time , but nobody cares -- by then the top
    end will need a good clean-up anyways ).
    I run mine with the engine breather disconnected from the air filter...this as J. Bidon says
    might 'get me in trouble' hahaha.
    I change the oil very often (all 250 cc of it) and drain the carb regularly , Seafoam is great too.
    Good for life if properly used/serviced.

      @pasdutout4690 Thank you for the heads up on this! I didn't see that tiny filter in any of the several repair videos I watched. I pulled the tank out for cleaning today and sure enough, that filter was in there, and it was FILTHY and clogged up with animal hair, dirt, sludge and varnish. After cleaning everything today, I can rest assured that the generator is getting clean fuel.

    Nice video Glenn. ANOTHER one. You must have a dozen by now. You are more then ready for the zombie apocalypse. I have several myself and I've been Honda's best salesperson when I lend them out to friends and family for camping or other emergency's, and they end up buying one soon afterwards. I know they make more inexpensive units and that's great, but my money will always be on a Honda.

      Your right, I have many of these. I have bought, serviced, and sold many over the years, too. Loaning one out, however... I have only done that a couple of times.

    Good video I just found one exactly like that in the trash kind of knew what was wrong with it before I even got it on the workbench methanol poisoning soon as I took the bowl off of the carburetor it was full of the telltale corrosion that happens when people run Alcohol gasoline in them clean the carb and she started right up. I plan on ordering a new carburetor for it so it can be a reliable unit.

    I have one, but fuel constantly leaks down into the case. Oil always smells like gas/oil mix and is over full.
    I always shut the fuel off, but it seems the ON/OFF valve for the fuel cap doesn't work.

    • @GlennsSpeedShop
      @GlennsSpeedShop  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The issue is likely the needle and seat are not sealing in the carbruator. Even when you shut the valve, the fuel in the line is allowed to go past the needle and flood into the engine. Running the engine with thinned out fuel is not a good thing. It may just need a carb cleaning.

      @@GlennsSpeedShop What do you recommend is the best way to clean the needle and seat? I did tear the carb down once and srayed a healthy amount of carb cleaner down into the hold where tje needle goes.

    Why is the oil needed to be drain first then the fuel? Im new to this I bought one used on fb

    • @GlennsSpeedShop
      @GlennsSpeedShop  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No good reason. If I think about it, it might be nice to drain the oil, then turn it upside down to pour the gas out and then put oil back in. Just to keep the oil off the top of the engine. Also the gen has been sitting and all the oil is in the pan. .

      No... the newer bluetooth models will tell you fuel and run time, etc, not these...
