Don't own a truck and not planning on buying one yet, but came across this channel a while back and absolutely love it! I was always the person who figured I didn't need a truck and really don't have plans to buy one yet, but they are looking pretty nice and something I might want to get into. DAMN TH-cam cost me a fortune. Video Game addiction which led into a gun addiction and why not top it off with a $65,000 truck.
The headlight plug (direct, unfused) looks burnt/brown and getting hot. They didn't come with headlight/running lights "relays", like newer trucks, and will eventually burn the plug, lights switch and turn-signal stalk. Running/using headlights/running lights "relays" is cheap insurance, and a "must have" on older Fords . But then "accessorizing" the relays (therefor the switch) will automatically turn all lights ON/OFF with the ignition, depending on switch position.
1) Stoked you found the issue with the OBS 🤙🏼 2) You should hide a Wendy’s chicken nugget in the OBS and see if Wes can sniff it out! 3) Seeing Wes unload those hitch covers had me drooling 😜
FYI. There was a recall on some of those trucks. They could catch fire while parked because the brake fluid resevore would leak on some wiring and would catch fire. Should look into it.
The a/c condensation gets in those factory amps and overtime they grow cunductive traces from corrosion and this is the outcome. ( This is why you remove all factory amps or completely disconnect them not leave them still powered and connected just without signal )
You might have to pull the whole dash out to get to the ratio wiring harnesses witch is right under the top of the dash and it runs along the whole thing from side to side

An amplifier with nothing connected to its inputs will be susceptible to noise coupling into the inputs that may have caused wild swings in output power with lots of dissipation in the amplifier components. It is best practical to short the inputs to ground or to disconnect the power supply.
A previous shop did the original amp bypass. Ronnie’s ran all new wiring for their system. The body shop hooked up the old speaker wires to the rear speakers instead of the new ones.
smell a cup of powder or grain coffee, this helps to remove the smell memory, this is a typical technique they do when trying to smell different perfumes in a store.
i had an alternator goes out on a SUV of mine, when it did it blew my headlights..surprizing not the fuse, also it blew my head unit (cd player) fuse on the unit it self. So an alternator can over-amp right before it goes out and can burn wires and fuses. I would have never had thought it. when it happiened to my i was delivering newspaper.. Luckliy it was a 5 speed, so i could start it without using the starter. and limp it to a gas station and then wait for a tow. when they test my alternator is was over-amping not under amping
By passed dont always work the speaker was still drawing power somewhere from the old amp and wiring one of them is attached somewhere and it’s arcing witch is why it was coming on and off
I had a Home Depot bag suckered up into the vent under the passenger side vend floor board into the blower motor and jamed up the motor. Stunk up the truck .try the vent. Don't leave anything light on the passenger floor side.

Use ziplock bags and a marker to keep nuts, bolts, and screws separately. Use the marker to mark where the stuff is coming from

Mine was the turn signal switch under the column. Drove me crazy trying to find the smell. 97 OBS 7.3
I have a buddy that fixes the tabs on the dash panel and the screw mounts for the fuel tank switch and the information center
My brother has a old obs and the harness that runs thru the driver side kick panel to the rear burned up.

Did you check the plug on the master cylinder for the cruise control
When the alternator went out on my Cummins it also smelled burnt. But it was smoking 😂

Seems to be an often occurrence to find some hack work from the body shop for such a “high end shop”
Probably just breaking in some voice coils or whatever amp or speaker is not working is just smoked.
Last truck starting having electrical problems so I traded it in right away. It’s a nightmare.
