Kenny hoyle is an underrated skater from the mid 2000s. Had a natural smooth style. KAYO didn’t do a great job of marketing and highlighting expeditions team in my opinion. They had a really nice aesthetic.
Kenny did that line with no comply up same day Blue did the ollie in gym shorts. Pretty sure every other single clip was exactly how Kenny said we did it, just stopped there a lot before or after sessions. He almost decapitated me on the hard flip when I shot the fisheye angle, and I felt it graze my face when he kicked one out, so that's why I moved to the top angle. Good times!
What’s good Derns! Another awesome spot history video, thanks! If anyone is ever unwilling to give you permission to film a spot, offer them a plate of delicious char siu pork and roast duck. I have used this method multiple times in the past. Go to a good Chinese place and pick up a plate of half roast pork and half roast duck, with fried rice. Explain to the person not letting you film that you’ll trade this delicious plate of goodness for permission to film/skate the spot for your channel. Goodluck! -WatermelonJiki 🍉
Dang that downhill section is such a classic part of my favorite videos. That Tom penny line is one of my favorites. He makes everything look so effortless in that line
You’re going BACK into DEEP SD history there. That school has been being skated since 93. That school was SO gnarly to do a trick by the third bump on the downhill section. You were cookin’. We always tried to clear the next crack (which Tom Penny did on his run). We called it the downhill school. There was a rumor Josh Kasper tightened his wheel nuts for his downhill run there.
Markovich did a lot of damage to this school. He was the first one I recall gapping out to that ledge in the downhill section -- a noseslide in the Color video from 1993. Jason Maxwell filmed here frequently. Say what you will, but Steve Berra kickflip back fifty-fifty grinded that rail Penny back tails. Rolling Thunder video. It was the first major one that I had seen down a handrail. Lennie Kirk and Josh Kalis had a Transworld cover ollieing over a picnic table. Lennie was lawless, both on and off a skateboard. Good catch on the Trainwreck Hubba grind and noseslide. He was lawless too.
I remember the Lennie Kirk and Josh Kalis picnic table ollie photo, it was definitely in Transworld but don’t recall it being a cover (subscription page?) rad photo anyway.
It looks like the entire school has been redone since the 90s when it was just known as the downhill school in Solana Beach. There were somre great clips filmed there in the Color video back in 93.
Having personally known most of these guys and grown up skating with them makes my heart want to explode. In the best of ways... Mohkie4life! (love you Alex!) Even met Richie Jackson here! 😂 Kickflip firecracker baby! H😂😂
Markovich and Strubing were the first to skate the hubba before the rails were installed. Markovich boardslide it and Justin got front tail for Foundation’s Art Bars.
Spot on whenever I see that set I’m already humming the Jesus walks instrumental Kenny Hoyle shut that shit down plain and simple video part still gets me hyped but never hyped enough to bet against the lakers hahah respect 💯🫡
Someone had an ad board sliding the ledge down the 12 when it was still under construction and the rail hadn't been added to it yet. I think it was Neal Mims in a World Industries ad.
That Earl Warren 12 made me semi handicap for life. Switch ollie in like 2001 when it was first built at like 2am film sesh after drinking with the homies. I landed fucked up and broke my foot very awkwardly it never healed right...to this day i cant walk bare foot on hard surfaces pain in my foot 24-7.
The Walker Ryan switch BS flip landing sounds like the noise in Tony hawks pro skater or something. Its like the Wilhelm scream or something, I know I've heard that
Jeff Boye nollie fs heeled the steps in Pacific Drive's Garage Days before anyone Kris Markovich skated the gap to ledge first in the Color video (1994)
Can someone help me out? Does anyone remember a part of someone blasting a super nice high kick flip in a line on that down hill part of this school ? Or maybe it was different school that’s very similar. They did something over trash can before or after it. I coulda swore it was Leo Romero maybe Grant Taylor?
I really envy the people that can skate stuff like this like it’s a 3 stair. Fakie hardflip, fakie heel?!! Seriously, wtf. This is a 12 we’re talking about
shout out to all the Jarrett's out there, my name is jarrett and shout out Sheldon Meleshinkski 1 of my kelowna bro's and all the hommies from Ben Lee from back in the day got him drunk for his 1st time
I can’t stress enough how much I love skate spot history.
Thank you!
Stress? You really need adverts shouted at you!!!
100% ❤
That Wes Kremer downhill line might be my favorite line ever, he killed it that year SOTY
Was looking for this. I had forgotten how good peak Wes Kramer was
100 % ❤
@@BackwoodBurner4000 Still is :) ❤

The name Earl Warren will always make me think of Tom Penny. His line there is the closest thing to pure flow state skateboarding I’ve ever seen.
Can you provide info or a link to wherre this glorious line can be seen?

Kenny Hoyle seems like such a chill and likable guy
Great spot history as always
Thankyou for reminding me of Tony tave - this is my element 🔥
Yeah! Super underrated and unfortunately kind of forgotten dude
100% ❤
These are the best feel good videos on youtube. This channel is about to blow up.
Josh Kasper's opener cruise down the hill in Trilogy is pretty iconic. Alex seems like a chill guy, hope he's doing well!
First time ever that I didn’t skip through an ad because I wanted to see him skate. Well done haha
Slash one upped himself on that crook too by doing a back tail on that bump gap to ledge in his Deathwish part. So gnarly
Kevin Bookers switch flip and nollie 180 are my favorite from the ice cream video
YO!!! I clicked on this video so fast even though I knew they weren't gonna include him hahaha. Big shoutout to you though 🍦
That fs flip up the curb..

NEW DERN BROTHERS SPOT HISTORY VIDEO HELL YA!! 🔥🔥
My favorite history lessons! Keep them coming!
Greg Lutzka did a lipslide down the kinked 12 stair rail right after they built it. I think he did something down the set too. You guys rule✌️
That was me that did the boneless lol. I stuck boneless 360 like 3 times in a row and broke my board on the last try. In a huge fan of you guys!
What’s good Derns! Another awesome spot history video, thanks!

That Tom Penny line is history
Everything from this moment and back.. is history
Can’t believe you missed Ryan Bobier boardslide on the hubba in the Adio video. 🤙
Thanks for another awesome video 💯🔥
Stoked to see this on my feed! Nice surprise. Has enough been done at tri city rail to do a spot history?
Dang that downhill section is such a classic part of my favorite videos. That Tom penny line is one of my favorites. He makes everything look so effortless in that line
Just supporting my favorite skate series on yt. Thanks dern bros
Grant Patterson’s nollie fs heel down the 12 stair (Blind video)!
Hell yeah!
The hallway used to be soo fun and faasssst! Skated here in the late 90s / 2000s. Also Timmy Thomas had a bunch of bangers down the set!

@@_NullAchtFuffzehn his Color part was super gnarly. Backside 180 nosegrind on Hubba was nuts.

@@zoozu2067, you're right. It was a subscription page.
@@zoozu2067 exactly, with Josh looking directly into the camera mid ollie. i think it was an subscription page..
Best series!
Pretty sure strubing front tailed the hubba in art bars and Ryan bobier board slide in one step beyond
Steve Berra had the 1st legit flip to rail tricks with a kickflip 5050 at the end of the down hill on the 9 stair. In Rolling thunder i think 🤔
so it's safe to say Wes owns that entire school then lol
I remember Alex and I ollied that 12 one day when we were little kids, those hills used to be so fuckin fun.

Ryan bobier did a boardslide on that hubba before the rail got added, adio one step beyond
Willy Santos also nollie noseslide it and board slide the top to bottom as well
Kirby to the street confirms we live in a simulation
I always wondered where that 20 stair was that Josh Kasper ollied🔥📍
Having personally known most of these guys and grown up skating with them makes my heart want to explode. In the best of ways... Mohkie4life! (love you Alex!) Even met Richie Jackson here! 😂 Kickflip firecracker baby! H😂😂
No idea how many spots were (are) in that fine institution of higher shreddin’ penny / wes get MVP
🔥That zoom in on Alex at the end😂🔥

Damn dude ya'll got Kenny Hoyle?
Fr i haven’t heard that name in a minute
I havent heard of him in a while!! , he was one of my favorites on expedition

Didnt Willy santos nollie noseslide n boardslide from flat that 12 hubba too?
Someone had an ad board sliding the ledge down the 12 when it was still under construction and the rail hadn't been added to it yet. I think it was Neal Mims in a World Industries ad.
That Tom Penny line is so out of this world god damn
Went to that gap in 2008... I wanted to Ollie it so bad but I was only there for a few days.
Dang Kirby freakin went huge. That could be considered for biggest Ollie of all time. Giles hard flip was insane
He didn’t Ollie it… he noseyanked into that bank on the side
Kenny Hoyle & his missing finger..
Flatbar accident, Hah!..OG 90s spot
Dont know if theres much done on the Vapa Gap but i'd like to see a spot check of that one day. 🙏🙏
That Earl Warren 12 made me semi handicap for life. Switch ollie in like 2001 when it was first built at like 2am film sesh after drinking with the homies. Dave Mayhew had a line at that downhill spot in The Storm

The Walker Ryan switch BS flip landing sounds like the noise in Tony hawks pro skater or something. Its like the Wilhelm scream or something, I know I've heard that
