You all probably dont give a shit but does anybody know a way to get back into an instagram account? I was stupid forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can give me.
I'm watching this Video late at night..the only reason why i can't pick mine up is that the Neighbours are will hear the sound and complain..This is something I've also been searching for a long time..👌😎
I've been trying to teach myself jazz now for 2 years, finally someone has given me the info I've been looking for💫Bravo sir!👌🏻these bits of information, have brought my skill level to the next step, and put my playing of smooth fusion/rock/jazz to the next awaited level.
Learning jazz guitar for 5 or 6 years, still can't solo - great and clear layout of the basics, thanks Greg, this is a big help! Subscribing and heading to your web site right now
Hey Greg, this is awesome! I've always loved the jazz improvisation sound but could never figure out how they do it. This "simple" video shows me how to get that sound without having to get bogged down in all the theory of it. For me, this is a MAJOR step forward! Thanks for posting it. I hope there's more of this kind of teaching on your website... I'm headed there next.
+Jeff Lewis Hi Jeff, glad you enjoyed the post! My site www.fretdojo.com is fairly new at the time of writing however just published a new post on jazz chord melody playing. There will be lots of new material on jazz guitar playing coming soon. Cheers, Greg
This is the way I learned to play years ago. One thing I would like to point out is by practicing these techniques in each position first and then learn each closed position of the natural, harmonic, melodic, and blues scales , all of the approach notes and enclosed notes exist within each of the minor scale variations. Not just the particular minor key but its relative and parallel major. Very cool. Thanks for the refresher!!
this concept really quickly brings you to the jazz guitar improv, that i like. making lines with these licks and permutations. hear the lines in your head and bringing it to the guitar, thanks fret dojo, another great video.
I've been playing for roughly ten years. THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR. I've memorized all of the pentatonic patterns, but I've always stayed to a blues style, and haven't been able to break out of my usual bluesy vocabulary. Can't wait to smoke a legal joint (Canada things, woot woot) and chill out to this. Thank you so, so much!!
This might be the best jazz soloing video I’ve ever watched. Solid, to the point, and with practical tips that you can put into action right now. Great work and thank you!
nice simple explanation of something I have always known yet never articulated, thus my playing is sort of sloppy...thanks, this was a good lesson, very clearly explained
Thanks, haven't found anything like this on you tube, been playing a long time, but having difficulty ,trying to sound jazz like , just this one lesson, I'm getting the idea, thanks for taking the time to unveil the mystery!!! Please keep it up!
Half way through this video i cant wait to pick up my guitar and have a blast at using fourths in a jazz style in ascending and descending. Fabulous video, ps 5am in 🏴 and played for many years. Just never Jazz so im intrigued. Thanks 👍👍
NICE LESSON ... played the minor pentatonic scale instinctively before I ever knew what it was ... all of my solos were built around it ... this now gives me some new options to incorporate ... not so random but with a focus on specific basics for riffs ... COOL ... makes for great phrasing ... NEVER TOO LATE TO LEARN ... THANKS !!!
This is the best thing I've come across for a very long time. Really useful approaches without getting too caught up in the theory like many do. Thanks very much. Subscribed
I really like your approach to teaching jazz it's beginning to make sense to me greeat job.Maybe you could do a lesson about setting up your amp for best jazz tone and other tips. I think this is really over looked by many teachers.
Been playing guitar for 35 years and Jazz for 33. The secret: there is no secret. You have to study, practice and have some (not too much) natural talent. Shortcuts are very useful for people who do not want to study and practice.
Excellent concept of making the scales more interesting BUT what I would have liked is not only the improvisation but also what CHORDS go with the scale so the player is totally self sufficient instead of using backing tracks. For Example: Playing half the scale and then throwing in a couple easy jazz chords that would fit, then continue with the scale and then add more easy chords. some people out there (like me) who are at the novice/intermediate level) just want to sound good. Play some George Benson and you will have a better idea of what I mean - thank you for your efforts, I really enjoyed your video. Hope you take it to the next level.
Used to play pentatonic up and down and now trying do this i got my fingers "do not move " to play jazz lol..i know need to practice more..great video for us beginers..
Well done! You are correct in saying that most people trying to learn the jazz vocabulary just haven't found the right way of learning for them. I absolutely love jazz but haven't been able to make sense out of it in a way that translates to lyrical improv. I stumbled on your site and finally found a way of learning that works for me. Thank you for posting your knowledge. I have been having so much fun and even my wife said my playing improved over night.
Think of pickup selector and tone knob as your eq! Neck is for the mids + lows (good for clean/jazz sound), middle pickup is like a hybrid, and bridge pickup = hotter signal, more gain, brighter sound (good to stand out). A TH-cam vid can probably explain it better 😅
great video...it sounds really jazzy.. i learn all the scales and arpeggio's tried everything but it did not sound jazzy... also a little bit like this video...but now the bell starts ringing...thanks
badass man. didn't think the good old pentatonic would be so useful in the jazz context just by adding the aproach notes and enclosure notes. i have to go easy on this cause my mind is seriously blown. I've been afraid of jazz for like a decade XD XD XD

when I try to sound jazz, I sound like I'm just playing a pop guitar solo in A major scale.
Tremendous lesson so well explained.
Thank you so much for teaching us how to start driving towards the Jazz road.

+Andrew Gould My pleasure Andrew, approach notes are a really important jazz vocabulary concept so worth working on for sure.
Thanks, Greg. I am a member of Matt's jazz guitar group. A great teacher. Looks like he did a great job with your talents.
That a very good lesson. Without complicated teorical concepts. Thanks a lot!
Is your guitar tone sounding good because of the guitar or you used eq? How to make the guitar having that thick sound?
Thanks for asking! I use no effects on the amp and just roll the tone knob all the way down to get that thick sound.
