    Considering this was most likely filmed on an actual film camera, the quality is actually amazing for the time! Also seeing a concert with Richey in it makes me miss him even more and I wasn't even born by this point. Watching this makes me proud to be Welsh!

    thanks for posting I too was at this gig. A friend of mine convinced me to go along to watch them having not heard too much about them. Great performance. I remember the smoke going off in the show wasn't by a smoke machine but two military style smoke grenade tied to sticks on the edge of the stage that stunk when they set them off.
    There was also a blonde haired kid that kept crowd surfing so much I punch him in the nuts the fifth time he passed over me. Sorry for that fella but even I have a short fuse.

    I was planning to see them on this tour but decided against it at the last minute as I thought this four piece would tour sometime in the new year.....ah well how was I supposed to know ?

      I understand you. I hope you managed to see them live even as a trio after 1995. I saw them at the Bataclan (I'm French) in May 2014 and one thing that struck me is that one of the two additional musicians had Richey's physical profile!

    I love how the pre-Holy Bible songs have a harder and more aggressive sounding edge, as if they've been adapted for this era of the band.

    • @leehawkins616
      @leehawkins616 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed, I love the sound, but I don't think it's an adaptation, rather the fact they only have one guitarist (for the most part), and the GT era songs were quite expensively recorded. James had time for overdubs, a couple of rhythm tracks, and some spit and polish. This is what they actually sound like live. They didn't ever sound like GT live. :-)

    • @Gunn27
      @Gunn27 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@leehawkins616 They had two guitarists though?

    • @leehawkins616
      @leehawkins616 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Gunn27 Well... yes and not. The only had James from EMG onwards, but at some point they started having a second guitarist called Wayne play live with them, but I think it took a long time for that to happen. Not being in the band Gavin isn't high in the mix... or rather he wasn't high in the mix to begin with. These days James has got lazy about playing live and if you watch anything from the last 5 years Gavin is doing a lot of the work with James just pumping it for solos. The did have a third guy on guitar at one point. I think the TIMTTMY anniversary tour. I don't know why he was needed, but he was there for a bit. Really, the most important non-member of the manics on stage is Nick Naysmith (?) who is on keyboards, and one assumes is the guy who presses the play button for samples and backing tracks. The Manics live linup is quite interesting. It would be cool if they could be interviewed about being in the live band, but they might have contracts keeping them quiet. I think that's fairly standard with all bands who use extra live musicians. So, ultimately, they could play any early tune with two loud guitars if they wanted, but in my experience Wayne has always been so quite you really have to try to hear him. I am/was a bedroom guitarist so I always look out for this kind of stuff. Happy to be proved wrong on any point :-)

      I think he says 'we were gonna get a guest to do this but with all the other shit [inaudible] we couldn't be bothered'. He's talking about getting someone to do the duet parts of Little Baby Nothing. I do remember James saying that in Germany at one point on this tour they got a girl from the crowd to sing but she didn't know the words 😂
