Hi guys,I got to say you guys done a first class job on your hullo all the years I worked on boats I have never seen anyone take so much time in preparation never seen anybody but under coat on ever ,how deep was the pitting on the hull you can fell them with weld then grind of it makes a good job but it takes a long time and you must keep a eye open inside the boat in case of fire that is you ever do that job ,great respect for both of you ,you sure not afraid of hard work I must say ,well take care keep safe till next time ,John 👀🥂🌹❤️🌈🌈🌈🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
Well done all, great video. Gives us an idea what we need to do when ours is due next year. Great place Braunston, we moored where you were moored. Great little shop there. 😉
That Will, is a great man to have around. A top job from Andy, Josh and of course our main man Will. Take a break, have a feed and put your feet up, and wait for mum to come home and tear strip's off you for getting paint on all your good clothes. Thanks Will, take care.
Yeah Will was absolutely brilliant and it's not the last time he does a kind deed for us 😉 dad never puts his feet up for long, he painted the roof the next day 🤣 yep that's why I wore the same clothes each day, I pretty much sacrificed them...
Amazing vlog and you and your dad made a great team, and it was so kind of Narrowboat Will to help you out. Your mum must have been so proud when she returned. Well done! Also Josh your narration was spot on. Roll on next time. Take care and stay safe.
Thank you so much for your lovely comment, it won't be the last of Will and his kindness 😊 yeah mum thought it looked great and we could show her the whole process via this video 👍
Thanks for the great video. I am going into the same dry dock next Monday so the whole video was really useful. The only problem for me is I have to return the same way so I will have to reverse from the marina and through the lock!!!
Just so you know, we had ours blacked a few days ago by The Boatyard, Hilperton, on the K&A and they charged £550 for a 57 footer. They have a floating dry dock and can’t recommend them highly enough if you don’t fancy DIY next time. Good job on your efforts though 👏👏👏👏👏
Taylors Aboard yeah it does sound reasonable but isn’t your boat longer than 57ft? Plus sometimes doing it yourself you know it done thoroughly and you got anodes and sorted out prop issue. Congratulations on a job well done 👍
Its not a Shear pin, its a cotter pin! A shear pin on the prop shaft holding the prop on would be a bad idea :) Great work on the Blacking very thorough, glad you got it all done should be good for 3 years. As for the rounded bits on the hull, they are called Rubbing Strakes and are there to protect the boat as you go into locks. The chine is the point that the base plate meets the side of the hull.
@@flashbangelectrics7705 it's a cotter pin or split pin, the name is interchangeable for the same thing :) I prefer cotter pin as that's what I was told they were called as an apprentice. It's like calling a filament a bulb, as my apprentice master said "you plant bulbs, boy!"
Excellent video, I learnt a lot from this one, looks like you have done a great job on the boat. I only ever had to anti-foul a 27 foot plastic yacht, much easier! Did you do underneath the hull?
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat I hope that was enough. Not sure what the data spec sheet is for that blacking. 1st 2 coats should be good though. I did like the extra prep work that was done
Great episode. Well done for doing it your self big respect! Really informative vlog. Thanks Myles and Marina
Cheers guys 🍻 we feel honoured that you watched the vlog 😊, hope to meet you two along the canal one day 👍
Such good quality narrating Josh. Some real quality shots. Well done. Say hello to Mum and Dad.
Cheers Will, some good quality welding from you 👍 and I will do mate 🍻
You’ve done a great job narrating and editing this one Josh.
Thanks we are very proud of him. He works very hard.
If Myles and marina say it was good then it was good .They both work hard on their boat but marina is exceptional.
🤣🤣🤣
The strips of steel fixed along the sides are called rubbing strakes there to protect the side plates. Great blacking job well done.

You both can be very proud of yourselves. Good job, well done. Wonderful blog, so informative. These are great.
Thank you 😊 so glad you enjoyed it 👍
Well done narrowboat Will a great job. And great job on the blacking to you both
Well done all, great video. Gives us an idea what we need to do when ours is due next year.
Great place Braunston, we moored where you were moored. Great little shop there. 😉
Thank you Leigh, glad you enjoyed 😉. Yeah Braunston was a beautiful place, a bit busy though 👍
I thought that was very interesting and very thorough. - Nice job.
Cheers Martin 🍻 much appreciated 👍

Great video guys, I’m now recovering from ark-eye after watching Will’s welding 😂 🤔, great job,,,,
Ha ha 😂 I think we all are, thank you 😊
Them rods were probably 7018s bit different to strike than a 6013

Good luck with your blacking. Hope it went OK.
Great job, well done
Thank you 😊

Cheers Rick that's cheap! if we're on the K&A around the time we need to black again, we're check them out 👍

I heard if an anode looking a bit tired that’s a good sign it means anode taken brunt of corrosion not the boat itself.
Happy boating
That's true 👍
Good old Will. Well done you lot 👍👍👍
Great insight - thanks guys!
Our pleasure!
Looks great good price well done lads !!
Great video guys. Well done on the hard graft you put into the blackening. Fabulous camera work too Josh. 👍
Thank you Phil, much appreciated 👍
Great work between you all 😁
Great vlog, all of you worked hard a job well done.
Looks great good job guys
Loving your videos. How long you been living on a boat. Keep the videos coming.
3rd Dec 2020
Did you remember to inspect the weed hatch whilst the boat was out of the water?....
Yep, I didn't record any of that for some reason, but we took it out and gave it all the good blacking and re-pait

Ahhh, there we go 🤣 knew I should have researched the name of it, dad said it was called that 🤣 so I just went with it. Cheers for all the info 👍
It’s not a cotter pin it’s a split pin. It prevents the nut from unscrewing.

You don't have to do the bottom.
I have to wonder if they ever soda blast the hulls to clean them before they blacken. Being in the US I really do not know if it is used there.
I don't know about soda blast or what it is but sometimes you do have to sand blast the boat to get back to metal.
Is it different procedure for boats that moored in salt vs fresh water? Anodes different maybe prep /cleaning procedure pre blacking different too.
do you do the bottom of the boat as well josh
No you can't get to the bottom Jane
how long did you wait after the last coat before flooding the dry dock?
About 16 hours 👍

should be left 48 hours.
