I have made a wooden whistle but the low and high octaves are out of sync with each other and I don't know how to fix it. Thanks a lot! I will give this tutorial a try. • @lavellrobinson4657

For an already carved whistle, you can try the same way as it is done in recorders: octave key. Try Hans Bracker's whistle and flute hole calculator. In this case, you will have additional fingering for clean C.

You can calculate the hole spacing, but like the length of the whistle, it will take some adjustments (a.k.a. 'voicing'.) This is due to a lot of differing factors. Interior diameter, wall thickness, how rounded or square the edges of the holes are, the diameter of the holes (start too small, then enlarge), the stiffness of the body material and so on. If hogwarts had a class in whistle making, it would be considered a Dark Art. The good news is that with some trial and error, and patience, you can get a decent sounding instrument without having 20 years experience making them.

Question about the measurement... the number for the length to the fipple... is it to the block or to the labium? Also on the low d is the gsp 12 wide and 7 across or the other way 🤔

from the labium! It is 12 wide, normally on the blueprint you will see the rectangular form

Hello, It is great !!! Diameters of holes in the schema are plan or drilled ? Is the distance from the edge to the center of the holes?

Hello I am so excited to start making these types of instruments. A whole new world... Very interesting. I am struggling to find 16mm diameter pipes and dowels in the UK. Would it matter very much if it was 15mm, I would need to make the flute longer and the spacing of the holes would be different? And should the dowel match the internal diameter of the pvc pipe or the outer diameter

The dowel has to fit into the pipe, so inner diameter, you can adapt this instrument to every length, make some tries!

    excellent, as usual!
out of curiosity, do you ever make transverse flutes (as opposed to the chiff and fipple type)?

bless you, sir! I used to have a bamboo fife from an artist at Pike Place Market. I busked with it several years around Christmas time outside one of the upscale downtown stores, playing a limited number of Christmas songs I'd figured out on it. that included a passing fair rendition of Dance Of The Sugarplum Fairies. I can't remember what happened to it, but now I can have a shot at making one of my own.

Bonjour Nicolas et félicitations pour tes parutions TH-cam ! J'ai une question à te poser : quelle appli utilises-tu dans cette vidéo, pour analyser la fréquence des notes jouées ? Cordialement, Gilles

Is it possible to make one with a 20mm pipe? Would that ruin the tuning?

Does the wooden block need to be flattened on the upper side?
