Hi this is Reagan, NMRAD Production manager. I love your footage with the Red epic Mx so I’d like ask a question about the Red epic Mx. I want to buy one but I don’t have some specific information about it. Is a good camera or no? Can I used an atomos ninja IV like an external monitor with Red epic Mx? And what the different between epic Mx and scarlet Mx?
hey Reagan! I think the EPIC MX is a terrific camera, BUT, it's also very old. It's not gonna be great in low light, and servicing it might be difficult, and definitely expensive, as with everything RED sells. But if you know what you're doing, the EPIC is a fantastic camera! I just shot a couple commercials with it recently and it's excellent, and I'm still filming videos with it regularly outside of the commercial world. I'm sure you can use the Atomos Ninja IV, but you'd have to check and make sure yourself as I don't have one. You might need attachments on your RED to be able to connect the Atomos to it. Difference between Scarlet MX vs EPIC MX: as far as I know it's just a couple things. EPIC lets you shoot up to 300fps, and it also films in 5K. Outside of those 2 things, if you don't think you'll need them, just get the Scarlet instead and save yourself some money. Good luck!
