#dksynthlab #synth #synthdemo
I absolutely love the little oscilloscope.
By far the best Monologue I've seen. Previously demos had me thinking it had very limited thin sounds but my opinion of it has improved substantially.
Your timing is first class at the. You make it sound like a poly synth it’s perfect brother!
Darren Hamilton can it run through a computer?
@@magnus1960 Yes, it has full midi support
@@magnus1960 lol what? All synths can run through a computer. What are you actually asking?
@@HotStrange they obviously don’t know how these things work chill god damn lmao. imagine purposefully choosing to be ignorant of what someone is actually asking so you can feign superiority for 10 seconds of your life. People be weird 😂 also not all synths can “run through a computer” different hardware will have different options of where you can and can’t route the device obviously dependent on connection types, so what are you actually saying? Do you have the hardware to be able to route a device to a computer? Does the hardware need more hardware? What even is “running through a computer”? Does that mean routing or recording? Does that mean using it as a midi device? So you assume every piece of hardware is plug and play with any modern daw? Wow you must be so dumb omg!!! See I can be pedantic too 😁
2:19 I keep watching this part over and over
Not that much
For me
Sounds like a Moog.
then see this: 2:51
Christ, I wish I had this level of hand-eye coordination.
@Boofsquad Was gonna thumbs up your comment til I read the last half. Rude.
Picked one up months ago. HOURS of getting lost in the signal manipulation... a real fun machine!
This video was awesome! I have been waiting to see someone just give a decent sound ride through. I have thinking about getting this synth for a while, and finally I am getting to see some of what it can do! Loving the sound of the monologue. Great job!
+Remi Moore thank you!!;)
Monologue and only monologue. Absolutely great. What a treat.
Instantly ordered this little beast
I just wish it had a looper. It would be so cool to loop the sequences and then solo on top with a different sound. Would dramatically increase the value of a monosynth
You can just buy a cheap external looper for that, I might try that myself because it sounds fun
you can make this inside a Daw
I hear you haha. Although one thing I’ve noticed about korg is they usually follow the law of high quality build quality and strategic design to the one trick pony design and to those uninitiated I would say one trick ponies are the fastest way to make an impact in your final products. I come from a photography world and the zooms (Swiss army knives) are not typically the lenses we gush over. It’s getting a single focal length that makes your brain melt. Haha anyways totally agree with you. Just is what it is. Limitations highlight strengths
@@CyberMunchies Well said. Nikon 58mm 1.4
I really like how it's possible to get a delay effect. When I first went through the presets I was amazed. It's a great synth to learn on.
I bought this as my first analog synth and I strive to get as much use out it as this man
Better a Micron. Way better. Fatter, thicker and usable sounds. Some sounds on this Korg is trash. You'll have to program.
@@TheRealDirtySkillz lol the Micron sucks
How is it doing by now man?
The oscilloscope looks fantastic.
Gonzalo Pérez F. It looks even better in real life!
He is the living sequencer!
2:50 west coast vibe 💚
that lil oscilloscope tho. so kawaii
taihen kawaii desu ne?
I love the oscilloscope so much.
It's cute and also really useful. You can plug other synth's audio into it to analyze their waveforms.
Indeed very cute.
Man, you are making that thing sound a million times better than I could...
😀😀😀
4:18 that just sounds sick
Kind of has a Human League sound to it
Lots of people seem to trash the monologue on the internet, but I've had mine for about 4 years and, although it has a niche application most of the time, the mind-bending sounds that little guy is able to produce makes it one of the most unique synthesizers out there. It adds such a unique and powerful character to your music if you use it correctly and spend the time to learn it. It's like the wacky weirdo in the family.
Literally, it’s perfect for adding some interesting analogue into your mix
It's a great monosynth and I firmly believe it will be remembered as a classic. It's kind of limited, but the things it can do, it does very well
Great sounds in this demonstration!
Quality upload here...thank you maestro.
Thanks. Seems as if the possibilities are endless...
that looks fun af
Grandissimo
Really impressive demo,I have just ordered a KM ,I'm impressed with its sound capabilities, thanks for sharing !
wow the best computer, ive ever saw
good anolog to the op1
Fine demo
Thanks for not talking! Nice jams!
Sounds excellent!
you totally helped me decide on this being my first mono synth!!!!
Yeah! really happy for your decision! ;) enjoy this little powerful synth! ;)
Shoulda went with the Microbrute by Arturia.
@@ReneeNme why?
@not so serious Because the Microbute goes so much deeper in regards to synthesis and ease of production.
I just bought this barely used. Possibly overpaid at $200 USD but this video just got me hype again over the purchase.
It's been two weeks, what do you think? There is one at my local pawn for $180....
Yes, that's all fine, but could you play the Happy Birthday Song,
so I can share it with my facebook friends, thanks.
While watching this video, the cat climbed under the closet for fear
how do you climb under a closet?
always agreable to hear sounds !
Bro…. You took that for a walk 🚶♂️
Here in Brazil gear are too much expansive, i wanna buy my first synth o think im going to buy this one after this!
Great video! I'm normally playing bass but I was looking for a small 2 octave device with keyboard for home to do some synth bass stuff and have some fun. And maybe on-stage ... so love the idea of an analog synth. I was unsure, what you really can do with this device and your video gave me a great overview! Think I will just buy this Monologue ... cool thing ;--) Thanks for your video! Best regards, Stefan
I am in the exact same position. Did you buy it and if so, how do you like it?
I love both Minilogue and Monologue. The sound is nearly perfect(TBH Minilogue sounds a little too slim) and the design of it is good. Now I want a MC-202 here in Japan 700$. way to go! I wanna something sound RETRO. :)
I agree about the original Minilogue, but you should check out the new Minilogue XD, it sounds pretty awesome.
This is Aphex playing the thing
Unfortunately not!;) 😉
I like Aphex...but I doubt he can play scales like that. He's good with the sequencers though.
hahaha you're an idiot if you think AFX can't play keys blindfolded
I'm not saying he's not awesome. But show me a video of him soloing scales like mozart, and I'll shut up.
This dude ain't no Mozart man!
Very very cool bro! 😎
2:26 my fav
It’s like 90 house
what is that preset that starts at the 4:09 mark?
❤ Thanks bro.
Do you know why the middle C key is not in the middle of the keyboard, like on other 25-key synthesizers or MIDI keyboards? I guess it can be a bit confusing if we were used to it?
They have chosen an E to E range for this 25 keys keybed
I think the idea is that a lot of people who play in rock bands will buy this synth to add it to the sound, so E to E Makes sense.
@@timeconsumer325 that was my thinking as well. Good design choice IMO
This. Mininova. Micorobrute. Mocrofreak. GO!!! Which one should I pick up?
@@rorz999 had a mininova loved it but it wasn’t great to produce with. I’m thinking the Freak rn
2:27-2:29. What sound is that?
It would be fantastic if knobs can be used also as usb midi universal controller for daw...
Creo que me enamoré otra vez 😍
I'm primarily a percussionist/drummer but have gotten into synths because of Josh Dion, who plays drums, synth, and sings at the same time. Ive been looking at the monologue and it sounds great! For this synth do you need a DAW or could you just play through a speaker or something? Also, could someone point me in the right direction in regards to how to create those sick synth riffs?
You don't need a DAW, this can go straight into your mixer.
Cool little synth. I still think the Minibrute has a much more interesting oscillator. The Korg filter is prolly better, and a sequencer never hurts. How is the LFO range? The MB LFO is either off or too much unless you're doing FX....so, it sucks.
Its pretty cool that kids can get analog synths now, and make music. Not long ago there wasn't much, and certainly nothing VCO with KB and sequencer for these prices.
The LFO on the monologue is freakin awesome...you could spend months just messin with it....
Wicked, hey man quick question, can I connect the monologue directly into an amp and make it sound ? I don't need a computer to make it run right ?
Yes absolutely, better use a mixer and connect speakers to the main out of the mixer ;) but yes, no computer needed
@@DKS-SYNTH-LAB great, one last question, how about to a guitar amp? Does it have an instrument cable input? (I'm about to buy a monologue) 🤔
@@falklandss while it will function with a guitar amp, ideally you'd run it through something full range. Like a PA system or a powered PA speaker. A dedicated keyboard amp would work as well as they are full range.
A guitar amp is generally tuned to sound best reproducing the frequencies a guitar produces.
Got Aphex Twin vibes from this video.
druidniba Fun fact, Aphex twin actually made most of the presets for this synthesizer, that's why you are getting Aphex vibes.
@@RetroPlus that's awesome ! I'm totally getting one.
OMG 3:38 💗💗💗
At actual price is a real temptation, 260€ by Thomann
Can this also be used as a keyboard for programming MIDI?
Using via midi/usb with a daw? Yes ;)
@@DKS-SYNTH-LAB awesome, thanks!
2:29 ¿it is a preset?
all presets ;)
@@DKS-SYNTH-LAB huuuge
I don't know how to say this, but it sounds phat and thin at the same time..
wide but tinny
RCmies It's fucking delicious and I want one
Don't know how to say this but the 2000s called and it wants its spelling of the word phat aka fat back.
Might I suggest: THICC
HARSH
Excelente sonidos.
I'm a synth noob. Would you use a speaker or amp for the monologue? Thanks.
You can connect into a mixer and connect two speaker to the main out of the mixer, if you want to connect and record into a daw you need an audio interface 4 cables and two speakers.
If you want only listen, you can use a pair of headphone.
But no external ampli is needed ;)
@@DKS-SYNTH-LAB thanks for the info
Does it need software? Is it plug and play like a guitar?
No software needed.
Rien de nouveau, on tourne en rond.
Can the LFO modulate more than one parameter at once?
Captain Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy no
Captain Jack Aubrey of the Royal Navy No.
But because the sequencer can be triggered when playing a note, you could program additional motion sequence and use it as a programmable LFO?
So there is no usable bass sound in there? I mean to substitute a simple bass guitar while playing in a band without a bassist?
Add hard drums and you will get Nine Inch Nails
Can this device run through a MacBook pro?
Of course
really?
Perfect demo..Thanks 👏👏👏
Ok I guess I need one of these now
Full size keys?
Nope, slim keys
@@DKS-SYNTH-LAB 13,8 cm?
Dear DK: Can you get strings on this?
This is a mono synth, for strings is better look at polyphonic synths ;)
3:00 Wath efect this?
it's a low pass filter
You can get some good wah sounds with the filter on this, especially with a saw wave
Sounds unreal ! Great playing ... what’s a good price for a used one ? Think I need this
Is all that sound coming from the synth only? Not some other software?
Yes exactly, all sounds are from the Monologue ;)
Does it take pedals too?
Can i play cr 78 in this?
Does this thing need an amp to play or not
You can connect trough a mixer or an audio interface (with speakers). No internal speakers on it ;)
does this also have midi ability ?
yes
Sounds better than the novation bass station 2
I've had both. The Korg has more character but the BS2 is the better synth
aaaaw, what a thing
Hello, with which daw can I use the korg monologue, which do you recommend?
I use presonus Studio One, but basically all the Daw’s are the same! ;)
They sound identical!
ohthepain Because they are. Except for the colour.
No, really? LOL
Does it have presets
Yes!
Is there a filter envelope ?
Got any tutorials or can explain what you doing
simple, he's dicking around with the presets. everynow and then he adjusts the cut off and resonance filters. not gonna lie, ive had mine for a little under a year and my damn cut off filter knob is worn to shit.
He is just messing around with the presets. Nothing original here
Wow he or she knows how to play!! Like if agree
Thank you Rachelle! A man behind the camera! ;)
I do agree therefore must like
Should I start with this?
yes! a good first Analog Synth!
can you play chords on it?
No, mono synth
This or a microkorg? leaning towards this but the vocoder seems fun
Well, this is monophonic and real analog.. microkorg digital but poly.. anothet option is the korg minilogue XD
How much money is this?
Around 245€/270$/215£
Do they expect me to have that kind of money lol?!
It's pretty cheap for a powerful analog mono synth, most alternatives are 300 and up.
OttoNL ik Danka
@@magnus1960 That's cheap what do you want one nothing?
Still got clicking problem?
Care to elaborate?
@@francescoberta I don't have one, but I think they're talking about there being an audible click when an envelope triggers with no attack
It's analogue!?
yes 100% analogue
Dayum 04:28
Such a 303
nothing the microkorg WITH vocoder can't do,
rana rene lol
You must be joking, the Microkorg is a cheap piece of junk.
reminds me of atari
05:11 ouch! :)
it's Richard playing
same thing, guy really looks like him
boem i think my panthalon is gone
The start of this vid sounds like the worst version of McCartney's "Simply having a wonderful xmastime" :-) (1min in)
But is all improvised!;) with no other songs in mind!;)
Meh, still wondering if it can do classic vintage sounds instead of wanky modern aggressive shit. It's hard to find a demo to show otherwise
FeedMeSeymour It can do whatever you want, including classic sub bass and nicely textured synths. That said I agree, it seems like the presets favor this distorted, farty funk sound. Good for sterile sounding bro step and keeping your wank hand in shape.
I keep seeing the clicking problem.
I bought it, would have kept but needed money and it went to ebay. Will get again. No clicking problem. Cool little lightweight portable thing. Def worth owning. Forget a volca, save the extra money for this
MBArkestra
Most of these modern synths are made for making synthwave or other similar genres.
Bro-step and other cancerous club music is all made completely digitally.
makes a good christmas stocking. broken a week later
They're incredibly well made for their price point. How'd that happen?
stocking stuffer, y'mean? Or did you break it by trying to wear it on your leg ..
I've had mine going on 3 years and I've beat the crap out of the little beastie and it's still in great shape! But when I go to sell it (if I go to sell it, of course) I'll admit to gently using it only on Sundays. :)
