    I recently bought a Minilogue for my first synth (first keyboard even, I don't even know music theory, nevermind scales, chords or actual notes), and this video made me feel a hell of a lot better about messing around on it.

    I've been waiting for this video. Everyone needs a Monologue. Just enough synth to inspire you, but not so much as to overwhelm you with menu diving and shift buttons.

    Wow. Thanks for an incredibly well-done tutorial. It's an incredible tool not only for owners but for prospective buyers who want to know whether this machine will meet their needs. I would think Korg should be interested in paying you to post this video on their sales site.

      I was thinking about getting a second, cause right now using mine for the bassline in my jams and its like too nice to just be the bassline but at the same time its a really dope bass. I think we will see used monologues under 200 bucks soon, thats when I'll get a second one, thinking black or red to go with my blue one.

    This is a great video! I originally just wanted a basic synth with a decent sequencer, but you showed there's so much more that can be done, and that it's not that hard. I'm not an expert yet, but I think if I watch this video regularly I'll be able to get the most out of my Monologue. Thanks for breaking it all down!

  • @seek4truth
    @seek4truth 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I have an idea for a video or video series: here you have assumed we know what is vco, vca, lfo, decay, gate, resonance, etc etc and showing how these works on this synth. What if someone is really newbie and wants to start learning or is curious or deciding whether to enter this domain or not. Those terms are daunting and there are many to learn and understand. It would be cool if you could make a video or video series for absolute beginners and teach all of these, theoretically and then practically on a synth one by one so we could learn basics of synthesis and synthesizers...

    Excellent video Jade. This is a great synth to start with as a beginner but it's also a great mono synth to use in the studio for pro's as well. It's also an ideal portable option to use while away from the main studio and only have battery powered options to create with. Paired with a Novation Circuit and a Boss BR Micro 80 4 track digital recorder you can create and record music without having to use a computer

      Chromacaps are softish and rubbery and very nice. Coolorcaps are more like a hard eraser feeling, a little more crisply shaped, and more saturated in color. Both are great. I lean towards Coolorcaps.

    Yeah. This synth is killer. When you start using the sequencer as a modulation source you realize how powerful it is. If I had to choose one synth, BS2 or this. The Monologue would win hands down.

    Nice video, JAde! The first thing I complained about when I received my Minilogue was that I could not see the indents on the knobs because of no colored index lines. I ended-up filling-in the lines with white Edding Marker, but the results are just not that great... Now, I see how your custom-job looks, and THAT is whut I'm talking 'BOUT!! Do you (or anyone else) happen to know what the orientaion of the knobs is (90 deg, 180 deg, etc.), so that I will order the correct knobs? Keep up the grooves!

    Hi Jade, I am totally blind and I just got the Korg Monolog. I’m trying to figure out how to play cords and stuff with it. All I know is, go to my favorite sound on there that sounds like funk music to me and fool around with it. I’m wondering, can I program drums into this? To me you can’t Funk without rythm so you need drums. There’s also a few more sounds I wanna program into this thang. This whole thing started, when a friend suggested The MoogSub37 to play Funk with. I went and checked it out at The Guitar Center, I fell in love with that Moog. I’d need 5 main base sounds that keyboard has, and not the whole Moog. That Moog is 13hundred and I can’t afford it. O now, I have a Korg. My love of Funk and Soul music really started, at 9, then it became really good at 13 when I tuned into 92.5 which was our Soul station, and I’ve never looked back. When that station was gone, the music collecting was on for me. Now, I have everything 92.5 use to play pluss some more Funk commin out now that’s new and not 1979. Now with this Korg Monolog, I wanna play some Funk, the question is, how? Can you gimme some ideas? Much love.SS

    Great demo! But the nice knobs, with readable indicators, are not stock on the Monologue. If someone is buying one of these to learn synthesis, changing out the stock black-on-black knobs with something like you installed on yours is recommended. That said, this and the Arturia Microbrute are great entry points to synthesis.

      It's a crime against aesthetic

    • @werekill
      @werekill 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are they fairly simple to replace? I've been debating changing up the knobs on my Monologue.
      Such a great synth! The knobs are my sole complaint, although admittedly I'd kill for a second square wave instead of noise.

    • @stocchinet
      @stocchinet 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Werekill I guess they are like every other knob, just pull them with a bit of force and they should pop of pretty easily, be careful to pull it straitght or the shaft might break or bend

    • @jc3drums916
      @jc3drums916 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could also buy a paint pen (or pens, if you want different colors) with an ultra-fine tip and paint in the indicator lines. It takes a day or two to get enough coats, but if you really want to save money, or if you don't want to change the aesthetic too much, it's an option.
      There's also a store called JRR Shop that sells a set of aluminum knobs for the Minilogue that looks really nice. If you don't mind paying for extra knobs, or if you own a Minilogue, that's another way to go. There's no replacement for the Program/Value encoder though. (Is it difficult to remove? I haven't tried.)

    I have the Arturia Microfreak, but I'm having trouble with figuring out how to program it, and I don't particularly care for the presets. I need something more like this, but I need an Arpeggiator, and a hold button. I could hook it up to my Keystep, but I want to have 2 different options. I need something as simple as possible, but I want something with a decent Filter, Etc.., so I don't need any outside Modules. Obviously, I have no idea what I'm doing, but I do want to have fun, without having to turn on my computer, all the time. Thanks!

    First. :P
    This and the BSII (#1: full-size keys and aftertouch) are my beginner synth recommendations.
    If you need portable (and are happy with headphones/slim keys), like easy/intuitive sequencing controls, and like the sound/tone of the monologue however, this is the go ... :)

    My first synthetizer and instrument, very nice sounds ! But some times too squelchy
    However I love this synth, I like to programm sequences/patch, I would like to know more about music theory instead of pressing randoms keys and sequence the stuff
    The microtuning option is really cool even If i dont know what i'm doing with it haha
    (richard d james added something really neat in this synth, he played well his shot)
