Tonnnnnnniiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You DID NOT just call me at as your cup of caffeine sponsor!!!!!!!!! (Except you did!) Here I am, in my living room, wishing I had a susan bates hook for tunesian crochet and WHOA. I wondered if you had a metal hook review and you did and I just settled in to crochet and listen and ...I almost fell off the couch! I just bought a set! I'm so happy. Thank you. I'd probably LOVE them. I have the Sewrella metal tunisian hooks that Toni shared 6ish months ago and have added the swivel cords they recently released. love, love, love them. I tried and tried to love the bamboo and plastic sets that are available and just hate the feel and drag of the yarn on those materials. I'm a metal only girl and they never wear out!

"Are these some hooks that you'd try?"
Girl, I was opening the link halfway through the video. I've been buying from Aliexpress, but only some bits and pieces (like scissors, stitch markers, plastic containers), because as you said their quality... can be questionable. It's the same as ebay, shein, wish and the like.
But this review had me, now the only question remaining is "Do I need them?". And the answer is yes, because it's a *metal* tunisian crochet hook set.

I just received them. I ordered them the moment i watched this video when it came out. They were out of stock at the moment, but they got back in stock and was shipped a week or so ago and arrived today. I opened them up and OH MY GOD THE SMELL! and just like Tony in this video i proceed to smell them 3 or 4 more times. I took the hooks and cables out, ripped the zipper out of the case and proceed throwing away the case and a big yellow tab the hooks were on. I put the hooks in a different pouch and i am a happy clam. They are great, smooth, not too heavy not too light. the allow they are made of is very interesting, it feels like its not just one metal. the cables are SWIVEL which is awesome. unfortunately they do not fit any of my other interchangeable hooks or needles but it doesnt matter cause there are plenty of cables of different length so its self sufficient. overall pretty happy!

The TIMELINESS of this review is nothing short of serendipitous! I just watched your "Learn to Tunisian Crochet in 15 Minutes" video last weekend and it has been stuck in my mind that I want to get a set of hooks sometime soon, but since I am still a beginner crocheter, I didn't want to spend $150+ for a set of hooks. I normally shy away from those sorts of steeply discounted stores, but this review has me reconsidering! Thank you for sharing!

I bought an inexpensive set of metal hooks with rubber like handles as my first and only regular crochet hooks and love them to this day. Never felt the need to buy any others. When I wanted to pick up Tunisian, I bought an expensive set of bamboo Tunisian hooks - and I'm not loving them so much!! I was thrilled to see Toni's review today of the same metal set of Tunisian hooks that I ordered! I don't have them yet - but hoping I will like them too!! Just sharing my experience because I can relate to your words!! They don't have to cost more to be better! 💕

Ali Express has been around for YEARS!!! Way longer than Temu or Shein. Many vendors have ordered products from them to resell through their own stores for a long time. I think most vendors are pleased with their products, that's why they are still around. Might have to try these though. I have a plastic set from Denise Interchangeable Crochet Hooks that are ok... but I do like the feel of metal for Tunsian. Thanks for the review!

Listen, “Toni Approved” spells “SOLD” in my language. I have one individual Tunisian hook that I got from Joann last year or before because I was curious about what it was for. My first Tunisian video was Toni’s and I was HOOKED from then on, making swatches all over the place! And I really wanted a set with the cords because I figured certain blankets would be easier than regular crochet.
I always pour through Amazon reviews because I don’t have the money to experiment but I was never really sure which product to pull the trigger on.
    NOW👏🏽I👏🏽KNOW👏🏽!!!
    Thank you, Toni!!!

Thanks for the honest review! I prefer metal hooks too. I started crocheting with boyd hooks and have never tried any other types (wood, ect.) I wanted to try tunisian crochet because ur channel has inspired me. Unfortunately, I saw this review too late. I am attempting ur Mulberry baby blanket and ordered a bamboo hook u also recommended with that project after searching for metal hooks in the correct size and failing. Then I though "well I'm gonna need all the sizes cause why not? I'm gonna buy a set kit". Nope! Those prices are ridiculous! Lol. But this is definitely something I'll keep in the back of my mind. Thanks soo much for the review and the patterns and the video tutorials. I'll let you know how my blanket turns out!

It never ceases to amaze me when you say size 7 tunisian crochet hooks are difficult to find when my first tunisian crochet hook was a metal size 7 and I found it on the spanish equivalent of a dollar store for a euro. It is one of those that look like a knitting needle with a crochet head but still... It also crochets super good, it's the one I learned tinisian crochet with (with your videos so thank you for that).
As for the hooks, I would totally buy them, I don't have the budget to buy a full set so I will probably end up buying this.

    • @ravelanone9462
      @ravelanone9462 หลายเดือนก่อน

Did she say size 7 -- or 7 mm? Because in the US a size 7 is a 4.25 mm or 4.5 mm hook, also called a G hook. It's so confusing. 7 mm is the size that's almost impossible to find. It's also sometimes called an L hook (and sometimes it has no letter designation). I think we should all just use the actual size in millimeters, but I guess there are still a lot of old patterns floating around out there which use the old numbering system. (And by the way, why are 11 mm hooks hard to find, also? 🤔)

I have not ordered from Ali Express but I have ordered from Temu. I have been looking for a set of corded Tunisian hooks and these look like a go. I find that when ordering from these sites one should be really mindful of the dimensions that are given. Also if you are ordering yarn or thread the weight is not always given so you may end up with a lighter weight than you were expecting. This recently happend with some cotton thread I recently ordered. It was lighter than a size 10 so I doubled it and it works just fine. I could have used it as a single strand but I wanted a heavier weight for the project. So just use caution an you should be good.👍

I’ve been using these since they arrived. The hooks are especially easy to use. The yarn flows over them! I’m so glad I ordered them immediately. I love the length and weight.

Ok you may have tried this, but I bought water pens for watercolor from ali express and it turns out they twist in the opposite direction. It felt weird and I thought the caps didnt fit but just had to go left to tight and right to loose, in steady of lefty loosy righty tighty lol if that makes sense. worth a try. Loved this episode! I was so surprised they worked so well for you, so cool! Thank you!

I just started a project, and because I hadn’t tried Tunisian crochet before, I borrowed a friend’s needles. Having a little stress with them and was wondering if metal needles were the answer. The ones I found were quite expensive. Then I saw your review. They sounded like the answer I was looking for, especially the swivel connection. I have just placed an order, and looking forward to improving my Tunisian project experience. I enjoy your style of instruction. So easy to follow. Thank you for sharing your time with me.

I have not tried these hooks yet, but I do have 3 wooden sets of Tunisian hooks 😮, then some stragglers I have picked up for double ended crochet before I bought my sets and things like that. But you can bet I'll be passing this link over to my husband and son's as a hint for a mother's day gift. 😊

I ordered this set of Tunisian hooks as soon as I finished watching this. Lo and behold, they arrived TODAY. They were extremely well packaged, and I don’t think they smell terrible. The hooks look very well made. Thanks for the great review, Toni! I’m look forward to trying them out.

I've been getting into crochet the last few weeks and while I'm trying not to follow my every impulse to buy a lot of stuff, your videos have me so hyped. They've been so good for learning technique and for helping me decide what I SHOULD invest in. You're so charming, your editing is so effective, your teaching is wonderful. You rock. A++
I just ordered these, I'm so excited for them to arrive so my Tunisian style projects can get longer than 4 inches! I was very tempted, it looks like they're doing a new version that's GOLD and you can get it in what looks like a much nicer package.. but I don't have the cash or the joint stability to mess around if the coating makes the hooks more resistant. Maybe if I come into a windfall I'll upgrade. :D

I have a set of 'something embarrassingly cheap' that I got online. The hooks themselves aren't the problem, it's the fixed cord that doesn't swivel while you work that made it frustrating to use when I tried making a blanket in one large piece. I ended up giving up and went back to stripes or an entrelac pattern for large projects.

I have the Clover Takumi set and I love it. I also have three sizes of the long Afghan hooks that I purchased years ago and used to make an Afghan for my mother back in the 80's and a few other things. After joining TLYC I thought I would reintroduce myself to the craft of Tunisian crochet. So, I purchased the Takumi set after seeing your review. But I am very careful with them since they are wooden. But I just placed my order for these and very excited for them to get here. Thank you, Toni, for your review. Love being in the family of TL Yarn Crafters!!!

I’m so happy you gave these a 9 hook rating. I just ordered them & I’m really excited to give them a go. The mindful cords didn’t fit but maybe the cords from the Clover Takumi set will fit on these metal hooks. Thanks for giving a great review Toni. Now I’m confident my $50 wasn’t a waste of money.

Hi 👋, new to your channel (not new to crochet however) and i am so impressed! You have definitely gained a new subscriber. 😊 Now about those Susan Bates hooks; they are what is known as "inline" style...took me years to find that out, kept referring to them as "cut head" hooks lol! I do a lot of lace crochet,( cotton thread as opposed to lace weight yarn) and as a lefty i work best with inline hooks. So guess how disappointed i was to find Susan Bates no longer made the tiny steel hooks in the inline style so i ended up collecting vintage inline steel hooks from all kinds of sources selling from personal stashes or what their grandmothers left behind! Etsy, eBay, Mercari, you name it i searched it and came up with a pretty good collection without spending a fortune. Don't know if anyone else has had the same dilemma but since inline hooks are all i use, and preferably metal ones it really helpedto find your video on these hooks as I've not had as much luck finding inline tunisian hooks so HALLELUJAH! And thank you! 👍🫶✌️

While i can say the smell of the package was not great it will dissipate. Thank you for this recommendation. Having watch your previous video on tanisan hooks I want find a metal set that was interchangeable. Thank you so much these are so much smoother than the colver tanisan set (bought before watching previous video) with the acrylic yarn I'm using. Thank you so much, 10/10 would recommend buying these and used for tanisan and traditional.

Love that these hooks have a thumb rest, swivel cords with no memory but I prefer tapered hooks. I learned to crochet with tapered hooks and not sure I could get used to inline hooks. If you come out with your own product I would love to see the option to get inline or tapered and also a bit longer like 7" length to hold a few more stitches without having to attach a cord.

I really hope you like them and that you'll be able to return to your project and enjoy it! You know....Bamboo can be funny. My mom's old bamboo knitting needles are SO wonderfully smooth compared to my costly Tunisian bamboo hooks I got a year or so ago. There is really no comparison. I had ordered this metal Tunisian set and when I saw Toni's review today - I was so pleased to see she likes them! Here's hoping both of us will like them too!! (I don't have mine yet). I own a cheap metal set of regular crochet hooks with ergonomic rubber handles -(the only regular crochet hooks I own!).... and I love them! You just never know! 👍
