Thanks for testing that bullet sir. I have shot 3 deer with it, all under 50 yards, but I have since changed over to the 140 Monoflex. I just didn't get a blood trail from this bullet, however, it turned their chest cavities into soup. Thanks again.
Not bad performance inspite of the very modetate velocities. I feel the 30/30 is a cartridge that works perfectly well with traditional cup and core bullets. Save the monolithic's for speedier cartridges. Thanks for the review Lee. Love the leatherwork I recently purchased by the way.
The guys at the local range claim the TSX bullets are the best thing since sliced bread. I have never shot or tested the 30-30 TSX even though I have two 30-30 rifles so I am curious what all the fuss is about. Thanks for the testing and another excellent video.
@@PassivePortfolios The Federal Fusion 150 gr. appears to out perform the Barnes ammo in every respect. FF shoots faster, expands better and punches deeper. Check out Mason Leather's Federal Fusion 150 gr. test.
They just don't disintegrate at super high speeds like lead can and poison the outer shoulder on your game . They penetrate and retain weight well and are made from non toxic metals . From everything I've seen, they all perform very poorly vs lead at a slow speed or exceptionally long range . Opposite of lead you want the lighter copper bullet. usually preforms the best at range . I use them in 223 by sig saur for AR15 deer hunting often .
Thanks Mason. I’m waiting on a Ruger Marlin 336C here in Australia. The importers have said we will be lucky to see one by the end of 2025!! That being said that is solid performances from a 30-30. Congratulations also on hitting 350K subs! 🎊
I love the look of your leather gear, well done. You are the only person I have ever heard pronounce a strap as "la-tee-go", we have always used the U.S. pronunciation of "la-di-go". Great job with the ammo testing, very clear and concise results.
I’ve also pushed it up around the 2470 fps mark with LVR. Sub inch groups at 100 yards out of my Henry single shot. Full pass through on a big body wide frame 6 pt and on a 170 pound hog. Both shots at about 75 yards.
Barnes says 2316 is max with a compressed load of LVR. They don't show H335. What's your recipe? I am really hoping LVR gives good accuracy. I have more of that than any other. I have a little H4895. That's been the best with 150gr. Sierras so far. I mean from my rifle of course. They're all different. For some reason, my handloads with LVR and Hornady 160gr. FTX don't match the factory LeverEvolution for accuracy, which is very good from my rifle.
Thanks for all the gel testing you do at 100 yards. I've shared your channel a bunch of times when someone on Facebloob ask about a certain bullet performance. I've also had several arguments that point blank range bullet gel testing is just as good which is BS unless its from a short barrel AR pistol.
Those giant hollow points help these copper bullets open up at relatively slow speed. Yes, it will kill deer or hogs. I'll stick with the Fusion. Thanks for the video Mason!
By that comments I can pretty well be right that you are a TH-cam groupie BS parrot mouth talker that repeats nonsense and on this you've been brainwashed into the nonsense that all Barns copper bullet are just FMJ or take extreme Hyper speed to make the bullets expand. Barns made a video to crush the nonsense you believe about the Barns bullets by shooting a 30 cal 180 grain TSX bullet into gel blocks at 800 FPS and showing the bullet did expand. The next Barns photos is a Barns TSX bullet on exit of a cherry tomato, and it is seen expanded so blowing up the big lie that all of the Barns copper bullets don't expands or the lie that Barns copper bullets must have extreme hyper speed to expand.
Rossi is now chambering their R95 rifle in 444 Marlin. It would be interesting to see how two different loads perform in gel; the Hornady 265 grain FTX Leverevolution and the the 265 grain Hornady Superformance. Federal also chambers their 270 grain Hammer Down ammo. It would also be a good demonstration of the Rossi rifle.
Amazing what 500fps difference makes. That wound cavity at about 8" is small compared to other test you have done. When I get my next rifle, I'll be sending you the specs for a leather cover. Looks nice.
Great vid as always!!! Does Barnes make any 30 cal bullets lighter then 150? I could see an all copper like this in the 130-135 gr range possibly getting to that 2500 fps mark
They do make 130 grain bullets, both in TSX and TTSX versions. However, they are sharply pointed and are not meant for the tubular magazines of most .30-30 rifles. You could single feed them, of course.
That "X" bullet sort of set conventional .30-30 performance on its ear when it showed up. If you want to go deep on heavier than deer 🦌 size game this one may be for you.
I run tsx, ttsx, and lrx in most all my hunting rigs. These are impressive for sure! If you had to choose Barnes or hammer down for a 3030 hunt, which would you go for?
Personally I would use Hammer Down, more consistently accurate in more rifles (I have a large 30-30 collection) even moreso just regular Fusion because it seems to be loaded a little hotter than Hammer Down. Right now my go to 30-30 load is Fusion 150’s
I bought the Federal loading of this bullet. 16" Rossi i averaged 2096 FPS. I ended up loading my own with this bullet and LEVERevolution. Averaged around 2120. Just didn't work for what I wanted it to do. I haven't tested it yet in my 20". I assume I'll get around the same speeds. I did shoot the 150 Speed Hot-Cor out of my 20" and averaged 2490 FPS. Much smaller length bullet so I was able to get more powder
Probably too tough of a bullet for those velocities. That long neck in the gel concerns me since it's a much better medium for hydraulic expansion than hair, skin, bone, cartilage or lung tissue for that matter. Still hard to beat a classic soft point in a 30-30.
Hey any Aussies on here in Victoria seen where we can get copper 30.30 rounds? I dont reload so would need to be factory. Rem, fed and S&B no probs but i wouldnt mind trying copper. Cheers. 😂yes Americans we can have guns no jokes please😂
Im just getting conservative if not downright curmudgeon like when it comes to bullets for .30-30. The best tests on TH-cam (as found here) are all indicating that conventional cup and core soft points tend to be the best performing for a decent price point that you can cram in a .30-30 for use on deer sized game. With typical speeds delivered from .30-30 being almost too low to even begin to ruin a bullet on impact, spending more money will gain you little to nothing in the field on deer sized game animals.

I can’t even get one in the US. None of the gun stores in my state have seen one yet.

This bullet can be bumped an additional 200fps using either H335 or LeverRevolution powder. My best groups are around .6" @ 50 yards.
I was wondering that. Ta.
Nice group. I’m getting about 2.5” groups at 100 yards with a 2.5x scope.

@ how convenient that I have a bolt action 30-30 then lol
If you are using in a bolt action, the 110grs they make for the 300 BO are another option.
@ how close have you gotten them to 2500?
Barns is awesome
Great videos. Have you ever tried the tipped tsx in any of your rifles? Switched to 180 gr 3006 fusions because of your videos!

I had the same thought. But lead free venison is another good reason.
Please review Hornady monoflex
Did anyone else note that this 150 grain bullet approximated the penetration of 170 grain bullets?
It's because the velocity is a little slower like the 170 grain.
@@jasonrhodes7047They also shed no* weight so the keep their momentum.

Unfortunately some areas are lead- free zones. So, I keep a box of Copper Expander on hand for some of my rifles on those occasions.
Levrevolution monoflex
Just a thought. How long between shots? On a 20 inch barrel would that make a difference on the temp of the barrel?
Was there ever a test done on the Nosler BT in 300 blk 125 grn? I have yet to recover one on feral pigs but they seem to be doing well 🤷🏼♂️
Nice
Barnes-x also makes a 130gr for a 30-06
Mason, do you make belts?
Sometimes. If they’re not currently on my site then I’m not currently making any.

I think your analysis is generally accurate. I like the lead free stuff so I have chosen the Barnes, but there really isn’t a great reason to.
Seems fine - pay the money, go hunt.
