Seems like everyone else is returning to this video for a nostalgia trip, pretty sure if I look hard enough I could find some cringy comments I made when I was like 11 or 12. Hard to believe this video is more than a decade old, makes me feel old.
Thanks so much! I'm glad you've enjoyed the movie for all these years. I actually made this in 1998. A small part of me hopes it inspired a new generation of stop motion animation in some way!
Same here I do claymation I found u from Randy vs Randy I wish u dis more of these but I’m very inspired and will keep on with the blue print u set thanks og love from Atlanta 💯🔥💙
I watched this back in 2008 and it brings back a lot of memories. It inspired me to create stop motion of my own and don't worry I don't have a single one of them on my channel in case you though I was promoting myself. This is the work of a pure genius.
wow. can't believe it's been over seven years since I first watched this. Looking at it again, it's almost like a stop-motion precursor to all the action channels on TH-cam. Freddiew and Corridor Digital are staples of the TH-cam action experience, but Covert Operatives will always have a nostalgic effect on me. It blew my mind (in literally blowing away the minds of its stars) and triggered an onslaught of my own stopmotion on good ol' Digital Blue Movie creator..memories, man. Memories. :)
Wow, I remember watching this in my childhood and I collected Gi joes before I saw this, and it motivated me to get all the ones you collected and this animation is still so amazing and so greatly done. So much time and effort payed off.
On Thursday 9/20, Denver had a GI Joe StopMo Film Fest. It was great getting to see "Covert Operatives" on the "big" screen. Congrats on winning best film with 3-3/4" action figures and on being one of the audience favorites.
Actually... Covert Operatives was made in 1998. And it was first on the internet in the year 2000 on a site called ifilm before youtube. So it was one of the very first videos when there were only a few sites streaming short films back in the day! Pretty cool!
Sammeet Nimgole Wow, I feel like an old guy now! haha. I'm glad I helped inspire you to get into stop motion. That's really cool! I have a few other stop motions. Go to my website. It's Jeffgurwood dot com. Check out Last Randy Standing and Indyanimation. I'm also starting a new one now that will be ready in about a year! haha
Oh man, this was one of the first videos I saw on TH-cam. TH-cam Classic right here! Hey Jeff, how old were you when you made this video, if you don't mind.
This film is great especially the part when they come off the elevator and I remember seeing this when I first joined TH-cam. I am surprised it is not at a million hits.
I have no words for how much I love this film. This was probably one of the first videos I was graced with upon finding TH-cam when I was in elementary school and I can’t believe I found it today, like 13 some odd years later. Gotta say, it’s even better than before. Don’t FUCK with the Covert Operatives.
Wow Thanks so much for the kind words! Sorry it took me a year to respond. I don't check this page often but when I do I love seeing these comments! Thanks!
Just came back for mum daily dose! 10 years and going! I still remember watching this when I was 10. It really made me want to do stop motion with my toys.
Thanks a lot! I'm glad you love my movie so much. It actually took me about 9 months to make this movie including building all the sets and everything. And yes, I have seen Robot Chicken. You're right it is good stopmotion.
This vid along with the last randy standing were the first two stopmotion vids I ever saw...Thnx to that I now have a greater appreciation for the innovative and unparralled thinking that stop motion animators put into their work...big ups to you XD
Impressive...Most impressive... I applaud the patience required for sucj a movie...I had no patience when it came to making my movie...so stop animation was a no go...but enuff about me...This movie is wonderfully done. A perfect mix of action and comedy. Congrats, this is true gold.
This is one of my most FAVORITE-est movies of all time! I used to watch it on ifilm all the time. "Computers 'n Stuff"...so many quotable lines. Michael St. Vincent's PSA rules!!! The Foriegn Investor and Phillip rule! And I fuckin' LOVE the Covert Operatives punk theme music! On top of that, the stop animation is done really well with great attention to detail. Thanks for making the best, bloodiest, stop motion action figure animation ever!
@DaStankBomb Thanks. I'm glad you liked the movie. The set took me about 3 months to make and the entire movie took me 9 months to make from start to finish.
Thanks a lot! It took me 9 months to write, build the sets, shoot and edit. It was shot on film so it cost more than it would if done digitally. It could probably be made for under 1000 bucks.
Impressive... Most Impressive. A true master piece I say. I applaud the patience that was required for such a film. I tried makin my film stop motion but my patience ran super thin...but nuff about me ...This film rocks on so many levels , a great blend of action and comedy with a side order of overly vilent deaths.
I looked at this like 100 years ago and I looked at it like 100 times and showed to all my friends (Still do), to me this is a classic. It wasn't on youtube then though, some other platform. I like it so much.
It took me 9 months to make the whole movie including writing, building the sets, shooting and editing. And yes I wrote and recorded the song playing in the beginning and during the ninja fight. Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.
Thanks! We actually did win one award (first place) at this years GI Joe Stop-Motion Film Festival in Colorado. I'm currently working on a new stop-motion. It's with action figures but it's not GI Joe movie. I'll probably be ready to post it by the summer.
You probably watched Covert Operatives on Ifilm. It's still up on that site. Since you've watched it last it's climbed to over 600,000 views and it's in their top 20 short films of all time. Thanks for being a fan for all these years!
The Tunnel Rat I used was the original from 1986. I collected Joes from 1983 - 1989. I don't have many from after that. My five favorite are probably the ones I used in the movie! I always loved Shockwave and Tunnel Rat. 2nd Storm Shadow and 2nd Snake Eyes with Timber were awesome.
man this video should have much more views than it does .. this is tight.. man you two are talent dont let it go unserved and to waste tv is boring make it big whoever you are .. btw its not sloppy its stop motion .. and we all cant be Seth Green etc but for it only being two guys this is really nice ..
The sets were made from cardboard, balsa wood and art supplies. The white ninja is the 2nd Storm Shadow from 1987. The Anarchist leader is a character called Morn from Deep Space Nine. The city song was the theme song from the show SWAT. The Covert Operatives leader was indeed Shockwave from a toys r Us exclusive pack. The other operatives are all vintage 80's figures named Hit & Run, Muskrat, Tunnel Rat and Salvo. I don't know any of the Corps names. I have a lot of 1980's Gi Joes, maybe 100.
Loved watching this years and years ago on Ifilm...... One of my students then told me about it and he was surprised I knew exactly what it was... thought I was some boring old teacher!
Sean Cloudview I love that story! Something similar happened to me once. I told a guy I met that I did stop motion animation and he asked me if I ever saw this movie Covert Operatives! Great moment!
I can’t believe this is 15 years old. This was, and still is, the shit. Please never take this down.
Don't worry I wont! Thanks for watching all these years!
Seems like everyone else is returning to this video for a nostalgia trip, pretty sure if I look hard enough I could find some cringy comments I made when I was like 11 or 12. Hard to believe this video is more than a decade old, makes me feel old.
Haha I feel super old too! I started making this in 1998!

Thanks so much! I'm glad you've enjoyed the movie for all these years. I actually made this in 1998. A small part of me hopes it inspired a new generation of stop motion animation in some way!

The song at the beginning is the "Covert Operatives theme song" sung by me.

I watched this back in 2008 and it brings back a lot of memories. It inspired me to create stop motion of my own and don't worry I don't have a single one of them on my channel in case you though I was promoting myself. This is the work of a pure genius.

A more classic video for a more civilized age
wow. can't believe it's been over seven years since I first watched this. Looking at it again, it's almost like a stop-motion precursor to all the action channels on TH-cam. Most of the guns came with the figures when I originally bought them back in the 80's. I saved them all these years.
Oh man, this was one of the first videos I saw on TH-cam. TH-cam Classic right here! Hey Jeff, how old were you when you made this video, if you don't mind.

No matter how many times you watch it, it still PWNS on so many levels
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. The punk songs in the movie were done by me. I also used the SWAT theme in the city stuff.
i frickin love this! used to watch this in TH-cams early days. Truly Classic!
I looked at this like 100 years ago and I looked at it like 100 times and showed to all my friends (Still do), to me this is a classic. It wasn't on youtube then though, some other platform. I like it so much.
Samuël Tremblay Thanks so much Samuel! It used to be on iFilm back in the early 2000's. Maybe you saw it there.
Jeff Gurwood yes iFilm thanks! There was a lot of independant film makers.
I remember seeing this video more than a decade ago. Good to see it's lived to see the TH-cam era.
Really hope this goes into the TH-cam Recommendations some day and gets millions of views. Its a classic.
I hope so too! Thanks!
It took me 9 months to make the whole movie including writing, building the sets, shooting and editing. And yes I wrote and recorded the song playing in the beginning and during the ninja fight. Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the movie.
Dang your sets were BIG! that was very impressive thanks for posting it I love this stuff!

That's hilarious! Some of my friends say it from time to time too!

The song in the opening is the Covert Operatives theme song. It was recorded for the movie.
The Tunnel Rat I used was the original from 1986. I collected Joes from 1983 - 1989. I don't have many from after that. My five favorite are probably the ones I used in the movie! I always loved Shockwave and Tunnel Rat. 2nd Storm Shadow and 2nd Snake Eyes with Timber were awesome.
love the effects and style how the video was made :)
btw nice music! Goodjob
Hey covertoperatives,
I saw this back on ifilm a few years ago. Just as funny as the first time I saw it. Well done.
man this video should have much more views than it does .. this is tight.. man you two are talent dont let it go unserved and to waste tv is boring make it big whoever you are .. btw its not sloppy its stop motion .. and we all cant be Seth Green etc but for it only being two guys this is really nice ..

Oldie but a goodie. Love this flick I just love it!!
Wow that was the coolest stop motion movie that I have ever seen!!
Took me a while to find this!!!! Who’s still watching at 2019?
me
The movie is great! But I'm more amazed how you could manage to fit a 14 min clip into a 10 min box of space. This one is going to my favorites.
Talk about nostalgia
This video is awesome! I remember watching it when I was in high school. This was probably 6 or 7 years ago now!
Thanks! You might want to start at the art store. That's where I got most of the supplies for my sets.
you guys should get an award for this, when are you going to make more!! I can't wait!!!
@hardyskillers
Thanks! Glad you like it. The blood is red petroleum jelly. I actually cut the figures with a saw to make them tear into several parts.
