In 1978 i was 20 years old and just after getting Married....And indeed so good to see the Kilkenny of old as i remember it with so many memories, good and some not so good i suppose, but by the same token glad to be the age i am at and not 20 years old today.....Thank you for Posting really enjoyed the trip down memory lane....
Brilliant stuff, I love looking back at old times to see how things have changed. Great to see all the old cars. We had a Renault 4 at about that time in the late 70s. It brings back good memories.
Good to know you enjoyed it, I think this footage is real to so many of us for that very same reason that we could almost expect ourselves to be in it.
I really enjoyed this old footage from 1978, brought back many happy memories, the amount of Fiat cars on the road that time was amazing.Laharts were selling alot of Fiats in the 70s and 80s.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and I'm glad it evoked good memories, it is great footage. Laharts central location on The Parade probably helped sales a bit (second video on The Parade).
The thumbnail for my second video on The Parade shows Laharts in 1970. Not sure when they started but I think they were there a good few years before that.
The most thing the strikes me watching these is the amount of little businesses. Either Privately or family owned all of them. Look around your own town now, tell me I'm wrong. Ireland was teaming with Renault 4's as well lol!!
They did indeed, what I liked most about this video is that I remember the traffic just as it is shown, chaotic and with little regard for anyone else. Love the Morris Minor just waiting on the yellow lines in the center of The Parade at 3.36. A gem of a video.
The IP registration plates.. kilkenny reg.The dreaded Tylers shoe shop you'd come out with indestructible polio type shoes you could walk on the moon with them.
There are a number of videos on the channel that could be of use here. There is one on Greensbridge that covers that area of the river, two on the Canal Walk that would have images from the bridge down, two on the Johns Bridges themselves that cover that area. There is a play list - Around Johns Bridge and one of the videos is this which might be of use; th-cam.com/video/DxKp74oKlgY/w-d-xo.html
Saw my house in green street ..Great memories . Loved that area

Thank you Frank, I'm glad it resonated with you and evoked memories. It was also very vivid for myself.

Glad you enjoyed it John, the 4's were a dependable workhorse, comfort not included if I remember right.
This is wonderful, so many memories, I had a fiat 127 reg 5130 IP I nearly expected to see it somewhere 👍👍👍

My dad had a 127 also green one , was looking out for it too. That's a good one ....
Lots of mercs about for the time. There was always a bit of old money around Kilkenny
Noticed that myself. Three of them in quick succession at the Parade junction.
Old money indeed!
Very good lovely to see,
Glad you enjoyed it

Thanks for posting. Brings back a lot of memories.
Glad you enjoyed it Lex.
Such a pity that the majority of these places are not there anymore
Some Garda there, keeping the whole town moving freely whist turning a blind eye to about 20 offences.
John Toughy I think a lovely man and a decent guard ..RIP.
All good memories. That brewery hop smell in the morning going to school.
I remember it well and watching the discharge floating by while fishing for eels on the Quay.

Wow, Laharts were even around back then!

You are not wrong, those family businesses were the life-blood of towns. Vacancy rates these days are shocking high.
Love the old cars , they had style about them.

Would you have any pictures of the river before the flood walls were built
