  • The scsi2sd is a board that mounts a mucrosd card as a scsi hard drive, useful for replacing hard drives or floppies in old computer and audio equipment. I have tested it with the Roland VS2480 hard disk recorder and it works fine for 16 channels 44.1khz MTP format.

    Hi de graon.
    Yes it works by power delivered by scsi cable although this requires you to plug it in after vs boots up. However if you want the scsi2sd to be the main hdd for recording, you need external psu, but this can be micro usb like any mobile phone.
    Itead studios sell the 25 to 50 pin adapter as an accessory to tge scsi2sd.

    Michael has now added a bootup delay features which means the scsi2sd boots up fine on vs2480 with no extrtnal psu. Setting 2s worked for me.

    Great! So you don' t need to power supply the scsi2sd card with the hd connector ? where did you buy the db25 to 50 pin scsi adapter ?

    Can you export WAV files to the SCSI/SD card directly? Is the SD card FAT formatted?

    Hi, what's the name of the white cable? I need to buy it. I also have a question, can I use this cable as an interface to connect to a PC directly with pro tools?

    • @nibblernibbles3205
      @nibblernibbles3205  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cable is a standard 25 way parallel d type.
      if you want to connect your VS to a pc then you need a ' Virdis ' card. This allow you to record direct to the pc hard disk.

    Hey Nibbler, do you know if you can use this along side the existing hard drive? I'd like to backup my songs to the SD from the HD so I don't have to bother with getting a PC with Windows and VirDis. Cheers!

      All good. Read your VSPlanet thread haha. Looks like a good backup solution for the 2480HD. Thanks for sharing!

    Great. I have a vs that doesn't play the tracks and when it does there is static. Can I swap my hard drive with another used vs to retrieve my songs?

    Hi, long time roland VS user here. I am getting concerned about my old internal HDD. Thinking about a new archiving method. I must have missed something because I am confused. Please explain. How did you get the VS to record straight to the external scsi in the first place? When were you given the options of where to record? I have never connected anything to my scsi port. When I record the data goes automatically to an internal drive. Will I be given a choice when I create a new file? THere just seems to be a lot of missing info here. Thanks,

      You need a scsi2sd card either v5 or v6 (check compatibility) and will probably need a DB25 Converter Adapter to make it compatible with an external scsi cable the same as the type you use with zip drives or similar. I dont use this recorder but years ago used a Vs880 with external scsi drives no problem, the device finds them automatically and can boot off them too but you will probably need to tell the unit to save to the new drive which is pretty easy as it should show you a list of connected devices. Ideally you need to get an enclosure for the scsi2sd card.

    Hi ther Nibbler
    Just a question to this. I'm thinking of buying a SCSI 2D, can I also export and import WAV files with it ?
    My SCSI CD-ROM burner just broke down and I'm trying to not replace it and use the SD card instead to import and export the WAV files.
    Your help would be greatly appreciated, regards ...

    Hi, can I ask you a question, please; my hard drive on my VS2480 has gone. I notice from your video that you have changed your internal IDE to a compact flash. How do I do that? I'd really appreciate your advice.

      It was my original plan to record to CF using and ide to CF adapter. But i found that the VS is not compatible with newer CF cards, so the 256mb was the biggest i ever got to work. I also tried an idea to SD adapter which never worked at all. I settled on SCSI to SD as the main storage of the VS. I think you need an internal drive mounted to boot it up, so really that's all the CF card is doing.

    Can you give me a link to a good scsi to sd card adaptor ?
    Maybe possible to CF card ?

    Since i did this, i found out about ide to sata adapters with an ssd. Check out IanCanefire. I am going to try this to replace my CF internal adapter, which never worked with cards over 256mb. SSD should not have the speed limitations of Scsi2sd so file ops should be snappier. I think internal SSD with external Scsi2sd might be the ultimate solid state solution for the vs2480.

      So I tried a Kingston SSD with the same SATA adapter as in that video, but it hung while trying to format. So I stuck with Scsi2sd.

    Hello! Can I connect HD SCSI-1 Hard Disk Drive (DB25) or SCSI-2 Hard Drive + Adapter (DB25) -> Roland XV5080?

      I'm so glad you asked me that. I designed and 3d printed one. You can get the file here...

      Thanks for that. Is your card a v4? I have a v5 and wondered if it would fit that? Did you design this in a 3d design app and what type of 3d printer is recommended for this type of thing? I was thinking of getting it printed but am in the Uk.

    • @nibblernibbles3205
      @nibblernibbles3205  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I didn't know about v6. I have v5 with micro SD. My enclosure is only for v5... v6 has full size SD and is bigger.
      Would v6 work with VS2480? If i follow the guidance from The Creator it would seem that v6 is not recommended for systems with db25 cables. I get 1.5Mb/s out of the v5 which is enough, so i won't be trying the v6.

    • @maccagrabme
      @maccagrabme 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I spoke to a supplier and they said that v6 is not a reliable card yet. I am quite happy with v5, the only issue is the microsd size which is a bit fiddly but I am using a microsd to sd extension cable so that i can feed in sd cards.

    Thanks for this video ! Great product.
    So i see there is a smaller, better, faster version, the V6 here :
    www.itead.cc/scsi2sd.html
    plus adapter here :
    www.itead.cc/scsi2-50pin-to-scsi1-db25-adapter.html
    Has anyone heard of an SCSI to SSD solution? Cos that would be a lot better.
    Also, is there an SCSI to SD version now? Cos those micro SD cards are just too easy to lose.
    Many thanks!

    Hi Nibbler. I bought one of these SCSI2D cards to use with my VS2480. I mainly want it to backup VS files to PC (via miniSD card). But I can't get it to work! I think I'm doing everything right! I've emailed the SCSI2SD maker Michael McMaster who is trying to help but wondered if you could give me any other ideas//advice, specific to using it with VS? Be very grateful if you could. regards Phil phil@dovestudio.biz
