@Arnold Squirrel Can you say Shibboleth? :) Such a silly thing to bring up here. German spelling is largely consistent, the issue is that the German language contains many phonemes that native English speakers don't know. So for someone to put in the effort to try to learn those phonemes just for a few names is impressive. The reverse is of course true as well, and many native speakers struggle with English language phonemes (and spelling as you pointed out, even if your examples are a bit strange), zats vy such a fing as the klishee German akzent exists. But more of us are learning English and inevitably getting it right than Brits are learning German.
Ganz's performance is the greatest of a historical figure in film history. I saw the film in a theatre and the whole audience was terrified when Ganz exploded into this epic tirade. It's a riveting, brilliant, 3 dimensional performance and a fantastic film.
A remarkable performance by Bruno Gantz. Probably one of the most difficult parts to pull off but he did it with such emotion its hard to believe your not actually watching Hitler. Its scary, disturbing and terribly sad all at the same time, its the most realistic insight to the insane mind of Hitler.
When Hitler brings up Stalin’s liquidation of the Red Army high command he’s not suggesting he should do it now as it seems you’re implying... Hitler is lamenting the fact that he did not purge the Army High Command before the war so they wouldn’t have been a hindrance to grand strategic vision
And they was. Hitler knew he needed oil and his generals wanted Moscow. Baku is what hitler wanted and even said if he didn't take baku in 1942 the war was lost..
@@omanvictory4011 The Germans were wholly unprepared to take on the USSR, even after Stalin's purges of the military and party. Hitler, and his cohorts, wrongfully assumed that because the Russians were hopelessly inferior racial specimen, the war would be won in a matter of weeks to months, as was the case with the previous conquests in '39 and '40. They underestimated the fighting capacity of the Red Army, and paid the ultimate price. Added onto that, the fantasies of oil and food that seemed to rest in the vast lands of the USSR were a pipe dream. The German command didn't wholly consider the proportions of such a vast conquest, and the logistics needed to secure it. The war was lost the second Hitler started it in 1939.

@@ohio its true the physical appearance is nothing alike. The actor is truly astoundingly tall, and gaunt. Irl he was quite short, hunched and often described as rat-like. That said the actor's performance is quite on point I'd say. He nails how creepy and full of himself he was. As if the person most won over by his propaganda was himself.
The actor playing Krebs has an incredible performance. He somehow manages to pull of a despondent, resigned -- if dignified -- posture during Hitler's rant (~ 8:00). The others look either worried for their own necks or helpless, but he somehow manages to convey stoicism in the face of doom.
I wonder if any of them really wanted to just smack Hitler full on in the face? Or I guess they were all just fully brainwashed to accept what their reality had become.
@@kbanghart Well, at that point, the vast majority of the original dissidents had either been interned for a long time (like social democrats) or straight up executed. I suppose there must have been some people realising later on what a hypocrite Hitler was (for someone who supposedly cared primarily about his own nation, he was suspiciously eager to throw them all under the bus when it became clear that his regime was finished).
I see a script for a ghost movie where Berlin is plagued by the ghost of Steiner eternally organizing a counterattack but everytime he almost gets there the ghosts to make up the army are gone and he's back to square one. In the sequel he manages to form an army of zombies (made up from young and old people but no one in between) keeping everyone out of Berlin while not attacking the city itself. Now the German army has to fight its way into Berlin through the Steiner zombie army in an ironic twist of fate. Part 1 will be titled Steiner's Ghost Division, part 2 Steiner's Zombie Army. This should be made into an anime by the people who made Tanya the Evil.

I always find it annoying that for a lot of cinematic depictions of Hitler, they tend to cast someone with a very angular face, with piercing sharp eyes. Like a cartoon villain... In reality, especially by his 50s, Hitler had quite a round, almost chubby face. I think probably the closest visual resemblance to him I've seen in a movie was Alec Guinness in Hitler: The Last 10 Days, although the film itself was a bit poor... Bruno Ganz's performance knocks all other depictions out of the park.
@@jeffthemercenary they had about a million men around Prague at that time. They fought even after the official surrender until finally capitulating on may 11th. @@delgande Would have just dragged out the war for longer and sacrificed more lives pointlessly. The Americans were just 3 more months away from the atomic bomb when Berlin Fell.
Hitler wasn’t insane.
