Speed of light is different in different media. So if something is transparent then you can't trust measurements. Although I wonder if it can be calculated. Also some transparent objects reflect back some of the light, so maybe you can't trust the result even if you account for the speed of light.

The goal is to record the displacement every 20 ms and then calculate the speed over time. Does this sensor allow for recording distance data over time, and do you think this is feasible? This sensor has many settings, so the measurement time can be different. The minimum measurement time is 20 ms, which results in the maximum error. Longer measurement time gives less error. If the distance to the object changes during measurement, this will lead to an increase in error.
