I've just discovered your channel, Chris. It's fascinating to see someone who knows what they are doing working on these little machines. I'm trying to learn by watching before I tackle some service and repairs on my own small collection bought via my local second-hand goods site and Fleabay. My ambition is to get one of my Zeiss Continamatic IIIs back into working order for nostalgic reasons - a Continamatic III was my first 'proper' camera when I was a teenager in the 1970s. It's brilliant that you take the time to make these videos and upload them. I'm subscribed!
The Automatic III came with two different meter cell sizes, the smaller ones may well work. In my experience, the cells in the III, being hidden behind the metal flap, have survived better than many of those on later cameras.
Hey Chris I’m testing a meter right now from a contessa that reacts when a meter is out across it. What voltage does a good selenium cell usually output?
hi chris could you do a video on the body part of the meter , also thank you for the videos you have done , you saved 1 more camera from the shelf of the dead
Well someone was watching closely,! That went back in later once I'd found it on the bench. It doesn't actually insulate anything in this position really.
What would you have done if you didn't have an extra working movement on hand? Is there a convenient place to order spare parts such as these, or would it require finding another broken camera with a functioning movement to cannibalize? Would you have been able to fix the movement had there not been a suitable replacement available?
Pretty much all parts like this have to come from an organ-donor, which is why I begrudge replacing parts unless absolutely necessary. You can still get new shutter-cocking racks from Micro-Tools, otherwise search eBay for anything else.

Are the cells interchangable between retina and retina automati models? Thank you!
