When he leaves City this year, either he'll take a national job right away or one year after. I'd count that if England get a coach now he'll make it at least until 2028. @eesafredericks2122 it would though! How many players we seen need a season at city to settle into his system? Plus we don't have the players for it! We've no kdb, thiago or iniesta to dictate a game
Perhaps we should adopt the German FA approach and have a team manager ie Rudi Voller and a team coach ie Julian Nagelsmann. You could then go with someone relatively inexperienced but from with the FA coaching system eg Carsley and have a more experienced manager of the project ie longer term planning, media etc. The strongest candidate for that role would be…Gareth Southgate. Why through away all his experience and start from scratch? He has been at the FA along time and yet is only 53 and could still play an important role.
Mancini wasn't the manager for the Italy side that failed to qualify for 2018, he took over from Ventura. He was fantastic, rebuilding the confidence prior to the Euro's and during, you know we'd win most games due to his ethos. Hence the 38 game winning streak. Tactically superb. It was behind the scenes things and resting on laurels & trust that led to 2022's failure...
Klopp would be absolutely magnificent for England. Inspirational, confident, charming, attacking,. experienced. Knows the players, the media and the culture inside out. But he's taking a break.
The more I think about it, the more I'm warming to promoting Lee Carsley. We're in the unusual position of a manager departing and yet the team not necessarily requiring a massive chance. Think as well there are big questions over whether Kane and Walker need to be slowly phased out and that's going to be a massive problem for any incoming manager not already familiar with the players
My shout is Lee Carsley to come in as caretaker manager until xmas, by which time hell eother get the job permanently cuz he's doing great, or will move for Eddie Howe or Jurgen Klopp.
Honestly, for England, the biggest football nation in the world, with the longest tradition of the sport, the largest professional pyramid, to not have an English coach is shameful. Germany, Spain, France, Italy... they all are capable of it. So should England.
Winning is the most important thing. I’d prefer an English manager but if Guardiola, Klopp or Pochettino want it we should get them over far lesser English managers
English coach licensing is utterly broken ... far to few spots supplied compared to the interest, clogged up by non-english post-professionals, and bloody expensive ... I recall seeing that there were more Pro-license coaches in Czechia than in England
For FA needs to make Howe priority #1. I'm personally a believer that we need to keep it English as we have the ability to do so. Howe has been pretty successful in the cups (a point I think more people need to recognise as cup and league football is way different). If thats a dud, which it probably would be, Carsley all the way for me.
I still think you ask Pep, he is very likely to say no but maybe just maybe appeal to his ego, the ultimate challenge in world football (that is still realistically possible), get England to finally win something. Added in he won't manage Spain because of the Catalan thing, there is some crumbs of hope. I think ultimately it will be Carsely, it is the same route done before with Southgate, they have just watched Spain win the Euros with a manager who followed a similar route and unlike Southgate he plays a much more attacking progressive style, so it's unlikely it would take long for him to win over the inevitable doubters.
If there is one place Klopp would never go apart from Bayern then it must be Real Madrid. That idea is absolutely horrendous. I mean, it is not hard to get Klopps ideas and what he needs from club point of view.
Interesting that James picks a man who mainly managed England's international youth teams after England was just beaten by a coach who had mainly managed Spain's international youth teams.
Outside shout is Dean Smith. People will say he’s never managed at an elite club but neither had Southgate and he was still an improvement on those before him. He never picked favourites, always played positive football even against stronger teams. And he’s perfect for the FA as he ticks their “super friendly and warm, welcoming manager” box.
The reason Poch got the boot was because he really didn't develop tactics much, he just played chaos football. It took him forever and then some to stop using Cucu as an attacking fullback, it took him forever to stop using an injured Enzo and find a better option, and he never did manage to make the defense work, in part because his team structure was often all over the place. And he never did figure out the set piece defending either. I'm not sure he'd win anything with the English national team but it sure would be entertaining all the way. And Potter? I feel he's the light version of Nagelsman, a bit like if you poured a pint into a bucket of water. Some good theoretical ideas but too wishy-washy to really make it stick under pressure. Failed spectacularly to make an impact at Chelsea.
Klopp seems like the opposite to a Real Madrid manager to me. Could see him go to Barca instead to try and rebuild them. Or possibly one of the Milan clubs to restore them to former glory.
I've always preferred the manager of England to be English, but that's not set in stone. But under no circumstances can we have the manager of England be from Argentina 🇦🇷.
For me, we need someone that the fans can get excited about so they have credit in the bank to build something. Court of public opinion has so much weight and affects performance.
Realistically non of that matters! Any manager coming in has to qualify and do well at the world Cup or there gone...Spain and Argentina both have managers that came through from youth international management
I wonder what the FA would say if Klopp asked to take over at the beginning of next year so he could have a 6 month sabbatical. Maybe a Carsley steps up for the rest of the year
I think Thomas Tuchel would be perfect. He’s good with team morale which is the thing that Gareth got right and we need to try and maintain. Additionally he’s much better tactically than what we’ve had in Southgate. I don’t think he’d take the job though…
A year ago you would have said no chance Eddie Howe takes the England job. But this is arguably the best move for him now: -ashworth leaving makes Newcastle feel less well run -Staveley leaving, she was a HUGE fan of Eddie howe and you felt his job would never have been under pressure as long as she was there but now if they have a similar season to last, even with injuries, maybe he gets the sack -PSR is of course very challenging right now for Newcastle I think this is the perfect time for him to take this job.
I agree with Lee carsley we don’t need a big name club manager someone who already knows the plays and tournament football. Didn’t Spain promote their u21 manager and look how that worked
I don’t mean this in a Brexit way but I think the manager has to be someone English, someone who understands the scope of the job from within the system. You look a world cup winning managers and they’re never international and that’s for a reason
A bit weird that they talked about Mancini, but not Tuchel who is surely the obvious answer? A cup winning manager who understands what needs to be done to get the most out of a limited squad, but somebody who doesn’t have any patience or interest in involving himself with the inner machinations of club football politics.
i can’t be the only one saying give lampard a chance can i? most people will be put off by his second time round at chelsea and at everton but look at how much of a mess it was behind the scenes at them clubs when he arrived, but if you look abit further back to his first time at chelsea, getting them to top 4 under a transfer embargo or even at derby, getting them to a playoff final meanwhile playing nice attacking football at both, i’m not saying he should 100% be nailed on for the job but he should atleast be in with a shout. (also we know the fa likes a clean figure) 🤷♂️
dezerbi if England want to move from southgate, then it has to be a manager who focus on tactics and style of play. That was the one thing everyone was saying missing with southgate.
How does Klopp seem like a Real Madrid manager? Doesn't fit the profile of teams he's managed in the past at all in terms of style, politics and fanbase.
Eddie wouldn't leave.. The project growing every year, environment is incredibly positive. With England he gets barely any time with the players, not much to do outside of tournaments and the abuse Southgate got, idk why he'd want that.
As every West Ham fan will tell you the best man to run a football team according to the pundits is David Moyes. West Ham had to be careful what we wished for apparently, where are the calls for Moyes the silence deafening.
I think the talk around Klopp was very weird. I disagree that Klopp has more to prove on club level, being the best manager in modern history for 3 different clubs. «I think he will take a year off» is also not an expert take, it’s a known fact. Klopp probably won’t manage for atleast another year or two. I see him observing the Germany job post WC 26’. Also: Klopp does not feel like a Real Madrid manager. Not at all. Values could not match up worse. Klopp has openly spoken about not being driven by success, but by relationships. The Madridstas won’t hesitate to boo out their club Legends; winning trophies is the only thing that matters for them.
I think their spot on! History will only look at trophies in the eyes of the masses! It won't care about money spent or how close they came! As for his time out it depends on his reasons! England is essentially part time work and could be sold as that for a 2 year period Stylistically he's perfect! Being one of the few managers that didn't rely on a great ball playing/pace dictating midfielder which England don't have and we know there's non better at player management
For someone like eddie howe if he came in and did well, I feel like he has a major opportunity to prove he can manage world class talent. Let's be real, he may never get that opportunity (although he arguably deserves it)
The Klopp feels like a Real Madrid manager is a strange shout. He's always been anti the institution of the league i.e. Bayern and City. Real is THE institution.
I love poch but i'm not sure if i'd want him for England. Unai would be my pick as I think he would make a great international coach. But I would consider the plan to be another 10 year project - which Lee carsley would be great initial appointment - whether he is only in for the next world cup, he would transition the team well.
Give it to Carsley temporarily.. then take your time and find the right man. Maybe Carsley as assistant to someone else? I think Howe is the obvious choice but I don't think he'll want it now. It's actually a great opportunity as in 4 years time UK hosts Euro's and England obviously have a lot of young (and now experienced) talent coming through.

@@jackwood107 scrappy game, Palmer deflected free kick won it. Played at a very different pace to mens football
I think Thomas Tuchel would be perfect. He’s good with team morale which is the thing that Gareth got right and we need to try and maintain. Additionally he’s much better tactically than what we’ve had in Southgate.
I don’t think he’d take the job though…
Pochetino with all those trophies he’s won yeah great shout
A year ago you would have said no chance Eddie Howe takes the England job. But this is arguably the best move for him now:
-ashworth leaving makes Newcastle feel less well run
-Staveley leaving, she was a HUGE fan of Eddie howe and you felt his job would never have been under pressure as long as she was there but now if they have a similar season to last, even with injuries, maybe he gets the sack
-PSR is of course very challenging right now for Newcastle
I think this is the perfect time for him to take this job.
I agree with Lee carsley we don’t need a big name club manager someone who already knows the plays and tournament football. Didn’t Spain promote their u21 manager and look how that worked
England isn't Spain, Gareth was the U21 manager, look how that worked
Id love to see howe as england boss but i dont imagine he will leave newcastle. Bring in my boy Poche
I don’t mean this in a Brexit way but I think the manager has to be someone English, someone who understands the scope of the job from within the system. You look a world cup winning managers and they’re never international and that’s for a reason
Potter should’ve been involved in Southgate’s coaching team
Poch would be ideal but I do think an England manager should be English, so I would go Howe
Poch or Howe hopefully. Lee Carsley seems like the exact replacement of Southgate and I'm not sure on Potter
Carsley would be closer to a De La Fuente type appointment than a Southgate one
I hear that just after this recording James lost circulation in his thumb from tying the headphone cable too tightly around it.
bro knew all along.
It’s going to be Lee Carsley
Klopp with Carsley asst?
Lee Carsley is the obvious choice given how he’s already won with this group of players.
Immense timing
dezerbi
if England want to move from southgate, then it has to be a manager who focus on tactics and style of play. That was the one thing everyone was saying missing with southgate.
If we don’t opt for a Tuchel then i’d like us to follow Spain’s route and appoint Lee Carsley
I'm not sure you can say Potter flopped at Chelsea then big up Pochettino 😂
I like your app James!
Ask Carlo Ancelotti. If he says no, give it to Lee Carsley
Ancelotti will never leave Madrid for England 😂 don’t be daft
Christ what a step-down in pedigree that would be 😂
How does Klopp seem like a Real Madrid manager? Doesn't fit the profile of teams he's managed in the past at all in terms of style, politics and fanbase.
Eddie wouldn't leave.. The project growing every year, environment is incredibly positive. With England he gets barely any time with the players, not much to do outside of tournaments and the abuse Southgate got, idk why he'd want that.
Hahahahahaja the upload timing
17:00 I thought Jim was resurrecting Bobby Robson for the job 😂
Please make it Howe. That will be hilarious.
i’d take lee tbf seems a good fit
The timing 😂
Klopp has absolutely nothing to prove. What an idiotic statement. And he would never go to the team who beat him twice.
England is essentially part time work and could be sold as that for a 2 year period
Stylistically he's perfect! Being one of the few managers that didn't rely on a great ball playing/pace dictating midfielder which England don't have and we know there's non better at player management
For someone like eddie howe if he came in and did well, I feel like he has a major opportunity to prove he can manage world class talent. Let's be real, he may never get that opportunity (although he arguably deserves it)
Love to see Dougie❤❤❤
The Klopp feels like a Real Madrid manager is a strange shout. He's always been anti the institution of the league i.e. Bayern and City. Real is THE institution.
He's had this one is the bag for a while 😅
Did not expect a wild Dougie
The timing is wrong for Howe acouple more years and it would be perfect, let him win something for Newcastle first then he will move on.
Love seeing Dougie in more content
