Got to admit, this anime got to me, not because of how brutal it was, but because they didn't gloss over what would honestly happen to a party that takes a level 1 healer, with no potions, and no plan attacking a goblin den. They had no chance, literally knew they were gonna die, but didn't expect it to be that realistic. Goblins are vile, they will do two things to you....chop you up and eat you like the warrior was, or if your female, rape you till you die, then eat you. Loved how the Goblin Slayer shows that he is an experienced killer. He knew their tricks and knows not to leave ANYTHING alive in the den because they hold grudges for life. Keep the vids coming!!
In the manga it's even more cruel to see the three newbies being crushed because it shows a short background flashback about where they come from what are their expectations for their future as adventurers and all but then they all get killed or destroyed before they even started. It's a very efficient way to show what van happen in this world and how adventures and quests aren't bright and fun all the time.

I've been going to every reaction I can find for this show just to see the looks on people's faces when they realize that Goblin Slayer is Berserk level dark.
To be fair the old berserk anime did skip a lot of the disturbing parts, and lessened a lot of the gore because it aired on television and only covered the golden age arc (along with the movies). 2016-17 berserk covered one of the most disturbing arcs but fell flat because of shitty animation and also skipped a lot of shit (slug count, rosine).
One thing this anime does well is show that in battle, knowing your enemy and environment, and preparing for it, is everything. The inexperienced first-timers are destroyed because they underestimated the goblins and used equipment ill-suited for fighting them in the caves. Then Goblin Slayer comes in with all his experience and knowledge and absolutely dominates. There's actually a prequel manga called Goblin Slayer: Year One that details his origin story and how he learned to fight goblins so effectively.
those goblin babies-kids were from the village girls captured earlier, being gang-raped in the cave non-stop for however long from their capture to goblin slayer's arrival (along with the fighter-monk girl just now), and so, had Goblin Slayer not arrived, that fight-monk girl being raped and the other village girls being raped would have birthed out 50 goblins a week later... they (the village girls, not the fighter-monk chick) already birthed like what was it 5 or so goblin babies/kids (which Goblin Slayer killed)... Goblins have much faster gestation times (1 week to 1 month) and more babies birthed at a time (3+) than humans do at 9 months and usually only 1 or 2 babies at a time as Goblin Slayer said: "They multiply fast" and there's NO "good goblins", except "DEAD goblins"... the priestess girl was trying to keep clinging onto her nievety/stupidity, due to not being ready for the brutality of the truth of their world (Attack On Titan: "This world is cruel")... but she got a hard lesson in this truth (there's NO good goblins), and has learned it well. She understands this at the end of episode 1, there's no more tears coming from her eyes for dead goblins, not even the baby-kid goblins. She's going to go slay goblins, right along Goblin Slayer, she now understands: "ALL GOBLINS MUST DIE" that priestess girl, despite pissing herself, she's fkn found some really big balls, going with the Goblin Slayer to kill goblins, despite having been through all that nightmare... helping Goblin Slayer eradicate the goblin nest-cave and "saving/rescuing" the girls... and here she is, ready to go kill more goblins, just like Goblin Slayer, at the end of episode 1. The priestess girl is growing really fast, she goes from useless scared coward, to big huge balls of bravery, and from episode 2 and onwards... she won't be a damsel in distress at all anymore... she'll become almost as useful as Goblin Slayer himself... grins... The Priestess Girl had the start of her 'Mikasa switch/trigger' about halfway through episode 1 (right after Goblin Slayer saved her from about to being raped by the goblins), just how we were shown Mikasa's trigger/switch in episode 6's flashback of it with the sex bandits, of her going from scared little normal girl, to fkn badass beast mode mikasa, saving eren's life as he was being choked by the 3rd sex bandit, hehe ------- once the human females are no longer able breeders ("used up" or die/killed from the sex itself and/or goblin-child-birth), they're used as food (eaten'ed) by the goblin kids/babies... ----- the "poison" is merely the goblins' urine/pee and feces/poop, infecting them. The anime leaves out a lot of explanations and back stories... and despite this being an intense 1st episode with displayed rape for the shock-hook value, the rest of the anime has been toned down a bit (episode 2 takes out another goblin gang-bang rape scene)

I really do appreciate animes/mangas like this. They showed torture, tons of blood, gruesome deaths and to add to it rape. It really shows the viewers what kind of world this anime is set in and not everything is all light hearted kid stuff. It also uses logic and plan also when dealing with these goblins The first party got wiped due to their own negligence and poor too no planning at all but Slayer used his smarts and thorough planning to deal with em with ease
I literally watched the first episode the other day and was just as shocked as you. I've seen some gory anime, but the rape part was definitely a surprise to me. Goblins are generally "weak", but in numbers are a malicious menace. I think the anime captured that well and also the fact that the party was actually still a rookie party. I'm looking forward to the next episodes for sure!

The reason for goblin slayers helmet hes wearing because he wants to re live the day he was hiding under a floorboard when the goblins attacked his village. So he will have fuel (hate) to keep killing goblins.
I know I'm 2 years too late, but if you read the manga, you get more background to the rest of the crew that got slaughtered. It's more tragic there then what you saw here, simply on that basis. If you think THIS is disturbing, Redo of Healer is saying "hold my beer".
That scene with the party getting massacred is even worse in the manga; while what you see is basically the same (especially with 'that scene'), you get FLASHBACKS (backstory) for each party member.
RT TV It would be a good experience. I found that the anime actually simplified some scenes (especially the 'controversial' ones). Simple example: Goblin Slayer actually expands on the mage's poisoned state, stating the poison used was a combination of crap, urine, and poisonous plants. I'd suggest just reading chapters AFTER viewing each episode for comparison.
This anime is a good example that the best way to stop a monster is to be a monster yourself. I know that there are rape hentais and all and some people are into that shit, but I think the reason that this was hard to watch was because this wasn't porn, this was girls actually suffering because of these monsters. The fact that this was realistic was what made it hard to watch.
Lol, you don't become a monster to beat monsters. Violence is very human and that's all Goblin Slayer does. He doesn't rape or torture or laugh and toy with his enemies. It's kinda telling that you can't see the difference. His whole reason for killing goblins was revenge for his sister. Most monsters would not risk their lives EVERY day just for revenge. They would get angry then if their life was at risk too much they would stop. Goblin slayer never stopped trying to save people, even if he got kinda numb to people suffering.
Not the first time goblins have been shown in this light, Dungeons and dragons infamously had some artwork a long time ago of goblins eating adventurers and doing other things to them.

That scene with the party getting massacred is even worse in the manga; while what you see is basically the same (especially with 'that scene'), you get FLASHBACKS (backstory) for each party member.

It would be a good experience. I found that the anime actually simplified some scenes (especially the 'controversial' ones). Simple example: Goblin Slayer actually expands on the mage's poisoned state, stating the poison used was a combination of crap, urine, and poisonous plants.
I'd suggest just reading chapters AFTER viewing each episode for comparison.

This was one of the first 10 anime i ever watched, I was somewhat suprised to see this myself. But not for the reasons one might think.

This anime is a good example that the best way to stop a monster is to be a monster yourself. I know that there are rape hentais and all and some people are into that shit, but I think the reason that this was hard to watch was because this wasn't porn, this was girls actually suffering because of these monsters. The fact that this was realistic was what made it hard to watch.
Lol, you don't become a monster to beat monsters. Violence is very human and that's all Goblin Slayer does. He doesn't rape or torture or laugh and toy with his enemies. It's kinda telling that you can't see the difference. His whole reason for killing goblins was revenge for his sister. Most monsters would not risk their lives EVERY day just for revenge. They would get angry then if their life was at risk too much they would stop. Goblin slayer never stopped trying to save people, even if he got kinda numb to people suffering.
