That's another new casting for me, Jim. You could call this project E pluribus unum! Out of many, one! The Brown Sugar looks sweet again! Warm greetings from the latest road trip - Innsbruck! 🍁☕👍
Thanks Andrew! I hope you're having a wonderful time in Austria! Is this a road trip...just curious because I could see a little diversion to Porsche along the way lol
Thanks Ron! Probably the next time I touch one of the Cosmic Blues based castings, I'm going to customize the heck out of it...and put some decent wheels on it lololol
I think I have a couple of these charger casting floating around in a bin. very cool. I've got 3 color shot colors from the states as we don't have em and love em. awesome job on the resto turned out perfect
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms wish they came here. co worker got me the speeding ticket red the with a twist green and rootbeer float brown few months back on one of her trips to the states. love these paints
Great job restoring the Brown Sugar! Lesney used this casting a lot and just changed the name for each paint scheme. I have several, like Big Banger and Cosmic Blues among others. I've never seen the Brown Sugar variation before, but I really like it! 👍
Thanks Richard! I did a short video a little while ago showing what I had piled up here that was Cosmic Blues based...and now I've started tackling them lol
Jim, when I saw that your were doing a restoration for this particular car, I started to tear-up. The '72 Matchbox Brown Sugar car was my very first mini-toy car! My Dad got it for me for one of my first hand full of birthdays. I was born in 1970, so whenever this came out! I remember the blue windshield and the cherries on the sticker. Mine was a bit darker in color, but it had that same glossy look! I had this one for years and years, and even remember lugging it with me to first grade elementary school. Me and a buddy (who I'm still best friends with even today) both brought our favorite cars to school so we could play with them in the dirt outside at recess! That little car stayed in my front pocket all day until playtime, at the end of the school day, and on the bus ride back home! My Matchbox and Hot Wheels came and went, but my Brown Sugar and a Corgi Jr Batmobile that I got at Halloween in 1980 (I was 10) stayed on a mantle in my bedroom for years. Sadly, when I came home from high school one day, I noticed that my cars and my comic books were missing. My Mom, listening to the advice of my aunts, had thrown everything away! I was "too old" to be having toys and reading comic book, they had said to her. "They'll stunt his growth!" Ugh. Long story short, it was two years later before I finally began speaking to my Mother again, Jim! She had no idea how important that stuff was to me, or how betrayed I felt by her doing that. Especially bothered me about my comic books as I'd paid for all of them myself with money I made mowing yards, etc. The good news is, in the end, all was forgiven, and she got to know how important that kind of stuff was to me. I was destined to be a comic book artist someday, and I made that a reality. Anyway, that was the end of my Brown Sugar Matchbox car that my Father gave me for my birthday. I'm going to have to try to find another one soon, I think. Your video brought back some very good and very sad memories, but the way you finished this car mostly reminded me of the joy of being a kid again and memories playing in the dirt with friends. Is that a Matchbox in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
I absolutely love hearing that story Loston (even the horrific part where your stuff was thrown out) and it does make me wonder if your career path was altered by that event. If somehow losing your stuff made you more determined than ever to become a comic book artist...I wonder? Gotta love it when an aunt chimes in with what she knows is best (sigh). I'm glad that the video reminded you of the joyous times from childhood. I know building some of these, and flipping through the old catalogs, often has that same effect on me.
@@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms Indeed! I feel that having my comics thrown away certainly galvanized my determination to become a comic book artist. I was a stubborn kid, and the notion of "I'll show you!" absolutely would have been an undercurrent in my going forward. lol.
Oh man,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,cringed watching others get sacrificed for one. LOL.......But ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Turned out spectacular Jim. LOL tha goat
Thanks so much Pete! Yeah...it's tough sometimes to chop some up...but it's for the greater good lol (plus, it just makes those more challenging to use later lol)
That’s awesome I’ve never seen that variation of that casting. I have the red rider and the cosmic blues as well. I did a custom on a beat up red rider. It was definitely fun. Amazing job in that restoration and hope to find a brown sugar for my collection great video thanks for sharing
Great restoration! You never disappoint. To my surprise, you even left the Superfast wheels on this time, which you don't usually do. I seem to remember that I had the Bazooka version with the high stacks at the time.
Noice restore. Never seen the brown sugar. A got couple red blue and yellow. I think I paid up for one, just for motor. Going try my hand at casting it. Cheers Graham
Thanks Graham! I would think casting the engine would work well - the intake could be a problem area, but you can always steal those off a Muscle Machine if needed.
So great!! Can’t wait to do my kid owned Brown Sugar! It’s got ugly yellow glass in mine! Wish I had a spare motor for it but I may just add one that’s close!! 😎🤙 it still has the decals underneath my kid paint job. Anything I might be able to try to get the old paint off but leave the decals?? 😬
Thanks Brian! The engines in these are oddly wide. I was thinking I might drop an entire Muscle Machines engine in one, but it was too narrow. I can't imagine anything that will spare the decals...unless the paint is very light...maybe water based paint? If warm water doesn't pull it off, I'm not sure anything else would be worth the effort. The decals are cheap enough really - I got mine from Black Square Decals on eBay and they were something like $6-$7 with shipping from the UK.
One of my "guilty pleasure" castings. Love it!!!!
Thanks Keith! Given some of your other guilty pleasures, this casting is a nice, mild one 🤣🤣🤣

Awesome resto Jim . I always thought this casting was for a Matchbox 😎

Another awesome restoration, not a big fan of the toon style castings, but this one certainly is cool with all it's variations.
Thanks John!
I went through quite a few of these as a kid, , I have one Brown sugar but it has been played with. Very cool brother and it looks awesome
Thanks David!
Nice restoration ,details and paint job 👌 👍
Thanks Joe!
Awesome Restoration 🌴👍👍😎🌴

interesting version, I even haven't heard of it before. :) and nice result, that scoop is indeed perfect. :)
Yep, I really got lucky on that scoop. I couldn't have asked for something to be any better.
True story 😂
Another great build!! This brown collour looks good
Thanks! I really like how the brown color looks too...and if it wasn't a restoration, it's not a color that would have ever come to mind.
