👏👏👏👏 Not only is this video professional and informative, But Very Very true. Although the high end silicones are so much different from the manufactured and replica silicones. But it absolutely depends on “the artist”. Not all are what they claim to be. Again, Very Well Done. ❤😊
Thanks for sharing your thoughts :-) I think you are absolutely spot on that not all silicon reborn artists are as good as they claim to be. There are definitely some shonky scammers out painting silicone dolls with cheap products and ripping off collectors. Have a blessed day xx
Hi Kitty, you put out the most researched videos in the dolly community! Thank you so much, I just learned more than I ever thought I needed to know about purchasing silicone dolls. I don't have any - wayyyyyyyyy pricey - but they're not especially appealing to me anyway. Thank goodness for our consumer laws. Thanks for looking out for buyers, great video!
Felicity is so pretty!😍Her dress and hair band are beautiful!🌺💗💮I'm afraid of buying a silicone but I am not really interested either. About a year ago I purchased 20", boy and girl twin, Ivita silicones off of eBay to get the experience of having a silicone. Those two satisfied my curiosity. I prefer my vinyl babies.❤
Thank you so much Jennifer 🤗 I've heard some very positive feedback from other collectors who have also purchased ivita silicones. Agreed, I prefer my vinyl dolls also.
WOW, you have described this topic perfectly, Kitty. I do not know about silicone dolls- not enough anyway, I collect vintage vinyl dolls c.1953-1974, but I AM a fine artist .I have a BA in Art History, and you are CORRECT: the paint MUST BE THE HIGHEST quality absolutely, plus the artist MUST be using the finest brushes and/or airbrush, which is Iwata airbrushes. One friend gave me avintage Peter Playpal of hers to fic because a novice 'collector expert' scrubbed his oriiginal face paint off, and then attempted to re-do it. Well, forget it: the person then put a clear 'sealer' on his face: WHY- it is NOT needed..I do' thave to tell you it was peeling like sunburned skin- it was horrid. I scrubbed off the peeling n portions but could NOT get off the sheen of it and it looked dimples and pocked; it was horrible. He also use paint for the face that was not fine artist paint, but low quality and it streaked and reacted with the vintage vinyl and did not adhere in all areas. It was horrible trying to fix that situation, so I can relate t this very important topic you have presented in this video. Some people start using make-up from China on their vintage dolls which is a MISTAKE- because it is inferior quality and WILL eat into and degrade the vintage vinyl doll's faces/vinyl. I cringe when I see these novices attempting this and then 'spreading the word' to their doll friends- it s making the situaton WORSE, they are NOT helping their dolls-they also get mad at me-annd I have actually been blackballed, ostrecized for mentioining this important point! I will offer as fine artist to remedy their doll's issues from a novice person , but they do not want to pay my hours to fix their problem, and they always revert back to 'quick fix tactics' which just hurts their vintage vinyl dolls and their integrity and worth. EXCELLENT VIDEO! Kimberly
Thank you so much Kimberly for your valuable input :-) I am so pleased to hear your fine artist advice. Totally agree, there are definitely some cowboys out there in the industry who are pretending to be artists but not really having the proper training or experience and are scamming collectors with their dodgy practises.
Gr8 comment... it doesn't help that there are sooo many yt videos of tutorials promoting the cheap version of fixing problems that doesn't last the long term.. thank you for your advice... quality is the way to go... not quantity...
Oh Mary, you liittle Pom sounds just like the two we had when I first got married. They were as cute as a button but little devils! I shouldn't have but I laughed so hard when I first read your story about your Pom eating your silicone doll's toes 🤣 My two rummaged underc bed where I was hiding Easter chocolates in gift bags and the worked their way through eating a large chocolate Easter egg!
What happened to PRIDE in one's work??? Great info Kitty!! I have one second hand silicone doll I bought who is years old, I got to see her in person before buying so I knew some paint rubbed off and some hair was missing but got a good price. I wasn't sure if I would like silicone, so I didn't want to spend too much. I am happy enough with the doll, I find the really nice ones just cost too much. So glad that you are informing people about what questions to ask when purchasing a doll. Australia seems to have your back when you buy things!! Simone xo
Great conversation my friend 😍❤and she looks absolutely gorgeous in her Tuesday outfit ❤❤I'm so glad you did research before buying a silicone and spending thousands of dollars like I did and have a wonderful blessed day ❤️❤️❤️❤️😊❤❤😊❤❤😊 the artist that I would recommend is Claire Taylor.
Thank you so much Iris for your kind words of encouragement 🤗❤️ Agreed, Claire Taylor's work is impeccable and anyone who has one of her dolls is very lucky 💕 Have a blessed day xx
Hello Kitty my dolly friend🤗🩷 Your little silicon baby girl is sooo sweet!! I love her outfit!🥰🥰 Thank you so much for such an Excellent video! I know this is going to help others make an informed decision when it comes down to buying a silicone doll. They are very costly! And many times, many of us by dolls because we fall in love with their faces! And unfortunately we end up spending a lot of money on dolls that absolutely are not worth the price once you actually receive it. This happens with reborn dolls as well. Great information and conversation!!💯❤️
Thank you so much Spring 😀❤️ I totally agree with you that we can emotionally get caught up with wanting a doll and will overlook many of the practicals to get it. Have a blessed day xx
@@LittleWattleNursery Shoddy businesses rely on such emotional purchases which is why they think they can get away with shoddy practices with lame excuses and bullying tactics when a consumer complains... Thanks Kitty for such a gr8 vid
I always enjoy your discussions. You do your research. I'm nervous about getting a silicone too. I paint my own reborns. I've heard so many stories about paint peeling and dolls turning blue on vinyl reborns, because of people not doing them correctly. We've got too many people just wanting to make a quick buck that aren't really artist and don't care about the art. Maybe I'll branch into silicones one day.
Felicity is gorgeous I love the dress and headband. Thank you for your wonderful detailed advice - I know a few ladies who are in need of this and I hope that it will help them - personally I don’t deal with artists but if I ever do I shall be following your advise 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you Jay 😀❤️ Agreed, it's devistating when we see our dolly friends who have paid handsomely for their silicone dolls get scammed by shonky scammers who cut corners with their work to make a quick buck!
I have a beautiful Phoebe sculpt silicone, and i really do not enjoy her as much as my vinyl dolls. It is harder to look after them, and i worry all the time. I enjoyed hearing your take on tge subject Kitty. Love, and hugs my Friend. XXxoo ❤️
Felicity is precious ♥ Excellent and informative video, Kitty. Thank you so much for covering this topic and all of the research that must have gone into it. I live in Texas and to search for businesses operating in this state one can visit online the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts and perform a Taxable Entity Search and we can visit our county website and perform an Assumed Name DBA (Doing Business As) records search. There has been one main reason that I will never spend thousands on a silicone doll. I don't believe it will be able to last like the porcelain and vinyl dolls have for decades at a time. I could be wrong but with as delicate as they are if they are somehow locked away in an attic or storage room they will deteriorate much faster than other dolls. Fantastic video, thank you. ♥
Thank you so much for sharing the authority in your country and state that you can do background checking of businesses. This information will be very useful to other collectors :-) I totally agree with you which is why I won't invest big money in one.
Felicity is such a beautiful baby! I have a few Ashton Drake silicone babies and I love them! I also have an artist original full body silicone from the artist’s own personal collection Lorna Miller Sands and I am always so extra careful with her and don’t like to change her very much. That’s why I really love the AD dolls! 😉😍♥️🥰💖
My silicone Amelia is from 2019 and she was bought as a boo boo baby due to TONS of repairs having to be done to her silicone. I’ve had her two years and experienced pair bubble and peeling. I just repair myself because she’s already a boo boo baby, but if she was new and I’d spent a ton of money on her and got her damaged or if she peeled soon after I would be furious! I don’t understand why artists can’t stand behind their work and agree to fix themselves. I am not sure I’d ever buy an expensive one, I’d love to have one, but I’m Leary spending that much money and having something go wrong. 😊
Totally agree :-) These issues with silicone dolls is just terrifying! My husband would absolutely hit the roof if I paid $5000 for a doll and experienced the issues that others have.
First let me say Felicity looks super cute. Wow wow this was an amazing discussion. You definitely held my attention throughout the whole video. You did a great job on the research of silicone dolls, it was informative and we needed to hear it. Thank you so much✨💫💐❤️
Wonderfully said! Thank you for the research you have done on this topic. I don't have any silicone dolls in my collection. I doubt I will. But I may change my mind one day? Trust me, lots of research will be done. She looks gorgeous! 🌹❤
Hi! Kitty Great topic! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge on this subject. I hope your week is going well and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day my friend xxx🌸🌺♥️💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖✨💖
It's a lot of money. Our Aussie dollar is trading so weak against most other currencies (the British Pound, the Euro and the US dollar) so it does not make any economical sense to purchase from overseas reborn artists.
Felicity is adorable. I have partial silicone Little Livy from Ashton Drake. I absolutely love full body silicone dolls, almost to the point of being obsessed with them. I’m fortunate enough to have several, though they’re not super high end comparatively. My most expensive one was under $2000 American and she was brand new from the artist. She did have some peeling issues when I first got her, but the artist was more than happy to repair her. The Doll Connection Store is a good place to look for silicone babies. They’re reasonably priced and offer a great layaway plan. Good advice when shopping for silicone dolls-you always need to be on the lookout. You really have to do your homework when looking for artists who will stand behind their work if there are any problems, and who are highly recommended by other collectors.
Thank you so much Katherine :-) and a big thank you for recommending The Doll Connection Store. This recommendation will be very helpful for other collectors. Have a blessed day xx
