American Airlines - DC-10 'Heavy" at SJC 1989

San Jose,CA - Nov 24th, 1989 - An American Airlines DC-10-10 series taxi's to Runway 30L at SJC for a flight to either DFW or HNL. I've also found out through research, this may have been when AA flew this on SJC-HNL-AUK-HNL-SJC routes. CREDIT-Tom Vance/Vapor Trails Video - www.SFOairlineshow.com

An AA DC-10 Would fly over my house in the early 90's to dallas every morning @10:45 the airport was only 12 miles away the sound was awesome !

I remember when AA started using the DC-10 to SJC , I would go see it all the time. It usually came in the evening from DFW . Was such a cool airplane, loved the 727s too but this plane was like seeing an A380 today! Miss the good old days at SJC too-PSA, AirCal & Hughes Airwest :-)

Acutally, their DC-10s' were used for medium and trans-con routes. Their usual pairings were cities like Los Angeles-Chicago or Dallas-New York and San Francisco - New York.

AA DC-10 Chicago O'Hare to Tampa, Florida. Flew that route many times in the late 1970's & early 1980's, while I was in college in Tampa. $128.00 roundtrip.Bought those AA tickets at the Maas Brothers Dept. Store in Tampa Square Mall in their Travel Agency Dept., where they'd handwrite your ticket out for you. Why do I still remember such details? : )

judging from previous comments posted here there seems to be some confusion about this airplane - this is a McDonnell-Douglas DC-10 Series 10 - the short to medium haul and original model of this great airplane - the Series 30 is one of the long haul models equipped with GE engines - the Series 10 could in fact be flown between the U.S. and SYD, MEL and AKL with a stop for fuel at NAN which which was done occasionally by Continental Airlines when one of it's two original and only (at the time

It's a shame these beautiful airships got such a bad rep. Mostly due to poor maintenance. The AA DC-10's were brilliant with their polished silver. Like bullets in the sky. The way those engines scream. =)
