My only experience of Barth, some 30 years ago, was The Sot-Weed Factor, which I loved and have re-read. I don't know why I didn't read more of his work. With Pynchon, Burroughs, Gaddis, Vollmann, DeLillo and Foster Wallace I read and re-read everything I could lay my hands on. Perhaps it's time to read more Barth.
Getting lost is part of the fun I think. . . . I attempted Giles about 15 years ago, as a much weaker reader, and ended up putting it down around half way, at the drama/play section, as I knew about 99% of it was going over my head. Will have another go soon. Thanks for another video, and congrats on 5k, well deserved!
End of the Road was great as I recall when I read it years ago. I need to read more-I have Giles Goat Boy somewhere. And Scott, I am a Dodo Cultist and hope you allow her to visit every once in a while-even if she does take a dump on your head.
The only thing I’ve read is The Development, right after he passed enjoyed it but think I was just scraping the surface. Thanks for the reminder… got to put down the Parker’s and read more Barth! 🛁!
Great stuff! Love the Barth I've read. He's so playful and has such admirable command of language. I'll move Chimera up my TBR list.

Yeah that's more of a crowd pleaser, I like GILES a lot too but that can get quite tangled near the end. Welcome to the. bathtub, Carl!

Yeah it takes a lot of attention to get lost in some of Barth's novels...s

Yeah we'll bring Dodo back, especially for the 5000 bathtacular!
I don't think my diet is rich enough in fish oil to read John Barth.
Idea for 5000 subscriber special: If someone has never read author X before, what book should they start with?
That is a good idea. It can be our party game-you can be in charge! See you there!

Bathing w/ Barth…
@@larrycarr4562 I don't know that one... but you might well like his first two novels, which aren't quite so exhausting...
@@Scottmbradfieldsounds like good advice👍 while my kindle library is inexhaustible… the same cannot be said for me.😂
