Very useful and informative. As a long time gamer I appreciate the in-depth details. The process can be tedious and somewhat difficult but I love the cannon and fluff involved. I consider your first episode on this topic a public service to Battletech gamers who are looking to dive deep. Most excellent Sir!
TheTweakFreak Thank you very much sir, I try to get the information out there for the Btech crowd. I love having a good scenario to play and the more realistic the better.
It's worth noting that MegaMek has a system for generating mercenary units in the MekHQ program. It's an excel file they include in the download. It's geared to running units "against the bot" AI that Megamek has, but it can also be used to generate units and contracts without running things thru MMHQ. MMHQ can also be used to "manage" things like repair, techs, payroll, salvage, and everything else. It will even generate contracts and missions within those contracts. It's got the option to print out all your record sheets so you can play tt, then import the results back into MMHQ and continue to manage the unit with the automation provided. IMO it's cheaper than the books, but you loose out on a LOT of the Battletech Lore that's what most people like about the game.
@@Helcarexe26 I have a few boxes of victrix old guard grenadiers, 1807-1812 French infantry and perry miniatures napoleonic infantry and 2 Canon 8 lbs I believe. I'm trying to get rid of them do you know of anyone that is wanting to start or add to their napoleonics?
@@justinskol597 The only place that I know who does Napoleonic miniatures at the moment is over across the pond. Justin with the channel The Miniaturepainter might be a good person to ask, otherwise probably might putting them on eBay
Most Battletech I have ever played was Lance vs Lance or faster games of mech vs mech. I still have some of my original scenario books from the 80's, but never played any of them. I probably bought them for the cool art, fluff and the "maybe one day I might try" factor. I usually didn't have all the required mechs/vehicles for the scenarios in the books and didn't like using cardboard stand ups. So unfortunately I never got around to using the books. After watching your video, I'm gonna bring out the books and complete my collection and find an easy scenario and get my feet wet, even though I hate water hexes.
Glad to spark the interest into the campaign and fluff of the game. With the addition of the new plastic kits from Catalyst Games, you can build up the forces quickly and without breaking the bank. Just make a plan of what you need and maybe do a slow grow scenario campaign, with slowly adding the need vehicles and Mechs.
I usually buy the Mechs that look cool and never mind if I'm substituting one for another. There are so many Mechs out there that collecting them all would be insane.
You pretty much described the Twitch show "Death From Above" (DFA). At least the 1st season, anyway. It's gotten a bit more RP, but the format is changing when they come back in their new studio. The back shows are up on HyperRPG's TH-cam. You should check it out.
I usually look at the potential house Troop schemes or just come up with a Mercenary company paint scheme. I usually go with 12 mechs at a time with a similar scheme.
My house rules for MG ammo is nothing happens that would hurt a Mech and as such no feedback. Just like firing a bullet outside of a chamber the case is the weak spot it may pop and toss a bullet but their is no force really behind it.
I have no problem with those house rules either, it just crazy insane that MG ammo would completely blow up a mech. I've also thought about just using the 5 cluster chart and randomly selected amount of 1 to 5 damage applied when it explodes
As a new player It’s very fun to listen to you talk about your times playing the game
Thanks lots of great games over the years. Glad you enjoy the history

Very informative, much potential!
Thanks Jacob
The MG house rule is smart, I think just rolling a d100 and taking that percentage% of damage is best.
That can work out if everyone agrees with the house rules. I can also see rolling a d20 for the amount of damage or on the 20 chart.
@@Helcarexe26 or, hmm, does the cluseter table go up to 300+ haha

Can you do a complete walk through of how you start a campaign with the 1st three missions/contracts? Your videos are inspiring!
Thanks for watching and I'll see what I can do with a video about campaign stuff

I’m getting the starter box - are their schemes I should follow for painting mercs? Or do mercs allow you to paint them free for all?

@@Helcarexe26 that's fair and a compromise I would probably agree to if I was in a group and they wanted some sort of reward for rolling well/lucky.
