Solbin is the Maknae and vocalist/Visual of Laboum and since debut the company put a lot of pressure on the members to diet. The group has struggled to find fame and make money. One of the only times Solbin was in the spotlight was for her dieting and this likely led her to be get more crazy about it.
Yulhee stated on Happy Families that she never made ANY MONEY the entire time she worked in Laboum...that's genuinely ridiculous. It's kind of mind boggling that it's legal in the idol industry for companies to cut off access to food, make idols pay upto 1 million dollars in "compensation" if they want to leave their group and overwork them with no pay. I hope regardless of what happens Solbin finds a healthy support system
Its because they usually have to pay back all the money they used when they were trainess. For example monSta x didnt get their first pay until 2 years after debut and they were quite popular a group like labour who are barely would have to take a while. But because Solbin is quite popular by now shes probably paid it back
It's sad, but these people know what they're getting themselves into. There's always the chance that you won't make it. The K-pop scene is too big.

@@margaretofscotland4707 it doesn't make sense for the idol to take the brunt of losses, especially when they do 90% of the work and have no control over their career. If a company goes under bc they're terrible at management, they should take the bulk of financial burden, not hoard an artists performance fees and album sales. Idols work incredibly hard regardless of how successful they are, they deserve to be paid.
That’s why I love YG compared to other companies, their artist gets huge payment and also trainees don’t have to pay single penny when YG company gives them so many facilities too
I feel like a lot of companies from not known groups push their idols to become really thin so that they can have a controversial diet headline/ have a diet challenge go viral or at least catch them some modeling jobs

Even JYP, who is considered more "normal" forced Twice's Momo to lose 7kgs in a week to be able to debut... Sickening.

Fans and the company have been especially harsh on Laboum members about being too "big." I suppose they think if they're skinny enough their song will go viral but idk who wants to tell the company first thats now how it works. The sad part is Solbin was virtually invisible until she caught headlines for her starvation diet/ hyeri look-a-like, and now people are bored with that and Laboum are in the Reds right now.
Their company is your below average nugu that doesn't know how to make money and known to treat their idols like dispensable products. Forcing any athlete to eat under 1,000 cal let alone 700 should be against human rights.
AMFG Videos “against human rights” exactly! And aren’t there any conventions or UN laws that define what starvation is for purposes of evaluating prison camps and torture methods? Controlling an employee’s intake is against human rights period IMO, idols need a union now.
I used to count calories and 1200 is already the minimum when LOSING weight, not even maintaining. 700 is roughly eating one meal for the whole day (rice + vegetables + 1 meat). It sounds okay but it’s not when you actually eat it, that’s a crazy asf diet, the company is crazy

People never care about Laboum unless it includes some sort of gossip. Tired of it. They have one of the strongest vocalists in kpop with Soyeon and one of the most distinct in Haein. They're incredibly visual and have a strong dance line yet unless it's gossip people ignore all that.
laboum are one of the strongest K-POP girl groups I’ve known. they’re so talented from vocals to composing their own music and deserve sooo much love! I want to be able to show their worth by supporting and loving them. Please check them out😔 I really hope they stop being hard on themselves

I think all these celebrities regardless of their level of stardom should either talk about healthy diets or just shut up about it! There's nothing to be proud of, imagine all the young teenagers following them and eventually suffering eating disorders because their idols are making it seem appealing.

Laboum is a very very pretty girl group and they always release bomb songs! Honestly their visuals are really top notch and I enjoy watching videos of their stage performances and getting mesmerised. Their makeup is always spot on, elevating their beauty to goddess level in comparison with other girl groups on the same show. I pray that 2020 will be their year.
I love laboum, they’re my ult group but I feel like they’re better off disbanding. Their entertainment had multiple chances to make them popular but failed. I doubt they’re making any money. The girls are probably going through a lot of stress thinking they’re the reason for not becoming successful. I feel like the entertainment is depending on solbin’s modeling and acting career to make them successful but that can only do so much.

what i dont understand is that all these idols talk about starving themselves so much and it's not talked about more?? like, this girl said she only ate like an apple a day at some point. how was she not put in hospital? how does it just go by so unnoticed? they act as if it's just a diet but they are literally starving themselves of not just food, but also energy, nutrients, and vitamins. smh

Jenn Ferley Firework is how I discovered them! Someone posted a fancam of it on twitter and I was like “this is a bop I have to know who they are.” I can’t believe it didn’t do well.

I know their company, they are a jointure of 2 companies who had Brown Eyed Girls and U-KISS
I'm a U-KISS fan since 2012, and I can say that their company absolutely don't know how to manage groups, U-KISS had a lot of success overseas and in Korea in the beginning of the decade, they were even competing with SHINee, Beast or Infinite at that time, but their company decided to send them in Japan to make more money, and they lost their success in Korea and later with overseas fans
They are doing the same thing with Laboum, they had somewhat a good start at first, they were nugu girls, but they slowly started gaining success, and they freaking messed up everything by not promoting and protecting them enough
They even disbanded LC9 for no reason
I just hope that they and U-KISS leave them and that the company shuts down

Solbin having it rough. She's the maknae which means she's mentally and physically young when debuted, imagine someone so young got pressured to lost weight. And then she also got hated bc of her Kim Seokjin controversy. Not to mention the group's sajaegi controvery and the undeserving win in the music show. She has so much potential, honestly I'm baffled how she's not one of the top visual of female idols.

Laboum are one of my ults and I hate to say is but I think they started to really go downhill after yulhees " scandal " I love yullhee so dont come at me 😂 fans started to leave , well fake fans , BUT they were finally gaining fans , with "Shooting Love" " hwi hwi" which got them their 1st win and "Only You and after "Only You" it was announced that yullhee was with I believe minhwan and was pregnant things went downhill fast , they changed concepts and didnt gain enough views, I'm so worried about laboum as I've been with them since debut. LABOUM HWATING!!!!

And honestly, leaving Laboum was better for her :/ she admitted that she made nothing during her whole career as an idol... being a nugu in the kpop industry, is extremely harsh so i am happy for her but I do wish Laboum got more attention too when they're a really talented group.

Laboum could have been big if they had a decent management. Their songs and concepts weren’t bad and they did come from a very small company.
I love their title songs like Hwi Hwi and Journey to Atlantis. They're my kind of kpop songs. Too bad I only found them years later and didn't help
came here after looking up the cast of backstreet rookie and realized she also made a cameo in itaewon class. she looks thin again and probably had to lose weight for the dramas but hopefully she's not on a harsh diet anymore :/

Yulhee leaving her group was a blessing despite the initial backlash she got. Laboum should prob disband or try to pursue things solo. Solbin is prob the most popular member but the company doenst even try to promote her. Their company is trash, if ur gonna make her suffer sm the least u can is at least promote them well and give them success.

For real, NH media pressures them waaayy too much. I remember that in the Uni+ even other girl group members were surprised by how harsh the Laboum members were with their diets and workouts. Solbin wasn’t there, but I imagine she was just as diligent for staying stick thin as Jinye

Two Of Us was a full album and it's much harder to get good sales from an album than a mini album. I think they should stick to releasing mini albums or singles and promoting them BETTER. But their agency is ugh

I honestly don't understand how she eats so little and doesn't lose a massive amount of weight. Like am I the only one who though about this? Like if these idols eat so little and work out like crazy, wouldn't they lose a lot of weight? Since they are not eating a lot to actually grow out the muscles. Maybe their bodies got used to eating that little so it doesn't affect them? I'm confused. Can someone explain it to me?
It’s because there metabolism are so fucked so they lose weight slower and it is caused by the constant dieting
from what I can say of own experience (might not be accurate for these girls tho) at first you loose a ton of weight fast but not long after your body reaches a point where it hits plateau and then you have to restrict a lot more to keep on loosing weight and it becomes pretty difficul. I guess maybe its a survival mecanism of the body idk
Generally with your daily activity and calories you eat, it decides your body type.
If you burn 1600 calories and eat 700 a day, eventually your body will reach the weight that can only be maintained by that deficit.
From personal experience:
Its because she didnt start fat. I could lose like 15lbs in a month when i was fat, but now 5lbs in a month on 800 calories is average. Plus binge eating is a thing that just happens.
I think one of the reasons could be that for example anorexic people often fuck up their metabolism completely. Once you starve your body almost to death it adjusts and makes use of every bit of food that it gets. You basically train your body to have a slow and very effective metabolism. So if you eat so little over such a long period of time and then begin eating more normal again your body is still in "starvation mode" and makes use of every calorie you put into your body, thats why you put on weight so easy and fast after those extreme diets (the yo-yo effect kicks in).

Stan Solbin's group LABOUM! They're really one of the most talented and greatest vocalists of 3rd gen ggs. They survived the 7 year curse because of the sudden rise of Journey To Atlantis in Korean music charts last year. They moved to a new company and they were able to keep their name. Support them! Check out their latest release Kiss Kiss from Blossom album that they release last November. Currently, they are preparing for a new album. I hope many people will appreciate them more now that they moved to a different agency. I hope their new management treats and promotes them well

I am not a kpop fan, but I got interested in it due to the spreading of the so called Korean wave all over the world . I think the fact the Korean Idols are overcoming even the most popular Noth American pop singers is quite impressive! I have to confess I got very upset to learn about how things work for these kids in order to achieve success.
Their whole system regarding recruitment, training, debut, profits and even the details involving their personal lives is very hardcore.
I recently found out about Yulhee and Minhwan story now watching this video, I can only imagine the things she had to endure due to her time as an Idol. I personally think that if they didn’t have to hide their relationship from everybody, they would have gotten an opportunity to receive more guidance from their parents and agency. But Jiang is cute little thing and they seem to be happy so...
Unfortunately, I can say the same thing about that girl from F(x) who committed suicide. It was so, so hurtful to read and learn about the things she endured.
I got so sad and now, watching these sort of videos I am wondering how many Idols might have been struggling with mental diseases, eating disorders, drugs addiction. Some of female idols might have gotten abortion in order to keep their image and career and we are not even aware about it.
Now, regarding to the LABOUM situation. I believe the best solution for these amazing and lovely girls would be a disband. The company probably will keep them until the conclusion of their contracts and then will kick them out, so... why don’t do that earlier? They can disband, give a break and then come back with a different name, a new concept and some fresh faces, I mean ... they can add more girls to the formation, or replace those who want to quit in order to pursue other things. I don’t know how things work, actually. I am just sad because I have watched some of their MVs and stage performances. I think they are very good and considering all their commitment with the project. It’s just so sad what is happening to them :(

Laboum was about to be successful with Shooting Love but then the Yulhee thing happened and everything fell apart :( I've been a latte since debut and I do believe they are extremely talented but people just don't notice them because... idk. I remember Solbin saying she was "thick" and dark... bruh their standarts are so fucked up.
ZN was also another member with an extremely harsh diet, her puffy cheeks vanished and her pretty legs as well :( I'm so sad and scared to know they will get dissolved.
Laboum has some great bobs tho . Hope they don't get disbanded. But on the other heart I don't want them to be overworked, eating nothing and still not getting payed. Firework was amazing.

To be honest, I don’t think starving yourself is really that necessary, cause starving yourself could lead to many diseases and organ failure, plus it just makes you even hungrier, I wish these idols can stop going over the limits when dieting

Sometimes only eating an apple a day and living on chickpeas for over three months is way beyond your "usual" and even "expected" (by the industry's standards, of course) K-pop idol crash dieting. This is obsessed, scary, downright anorexic behavior which is 100% the company and Netizens' fault.
She lost 12kg (likely going from like 53-55 to 41-43) and they still say things like "she is too masculine", "oh, so ugly" and even fucking "her nose is fat". This is vile and borderline sociopathic.
I also noticed that ZN is extremely skinny now, I am scared for her health.

The fact that firework is my favourite laboum title track and it's actually their worst selling album :((
If a group is failing and the girls are well received apart from the odd toxic comment about them or their weight, perhaps its best to then turn to the obvious issue with the group being the poor music producers and the songs they produce. None of their songs were remotely comparable to songs put out by other artists, even those also going for the 'girl crush' theme. You see this time and time again, bad producers in the background but those facing the gun are the puppet girl/boy group faces.
